This is the most recent information available; however, it may change as we learn more about the dog.

Sunny is a 5-year-old female Golden Retriever. She appears to be about 90% Golden Retriever, but there is definitely a little something else in there, as she has white on her snout, chest, and paws. She is petite at 57 lbs and healthy and up-to-date on her vaccinations. She was transferred to us from a shelter in NW Iowa. She is a wanderer, so will need to be kept on a leash while outside or in a fenced-in yard. This is what we know about Sunshine....

  • She came from a family with a toddler and did well. She also does well around our 2-year-old and we have seen no problematic behavior except that she does get excited at times and may knock young ones over.
  • She gets along well with our 3 dogs. They haven't played at all yet, but they coexist just fine.
  • She is curious, but is fine with our cat.
  • She is house-trained and though she doesn't love it, she does fine in a kennel. She does well with free roam overnight while we are home, but we haven't tried allowing her out for more than 30 minutes while we are gone.
  • She loves car rides, balls, and has quite a bit of energy for a 5-year-old dog. She would make a great running partner.
  • She has not shown any aggression or resource guarding. I can take toys or put my hands in her dish with no problem.
  • She has not tried to counter-surf or get in the trash. She knows "sit" and "down," and we are working on "stay" and "come."
  • She is a typical Golden and loves attention and belly rubs, and she is not afraid to let us know what she wants.
  • She does have some bad habits too. Those would include drinking toilet water, jumping when excited, her leash manners need some work, and she did try to hump a single time, but was redirected easily and has not done it again. She will be spayed next week and is then ready for her forever home! Please let your placement advisor know if you are interested in the gorgeous girl!
