Black is the new Golden! Hero arrived on Friday, May 27. Hero is beautiful boy with a silky, thick, black coat, and he is an absolute sweetheart. At 7 months, he weighs almost 30 lbs, but needs to add weight. This won't be a problem since he eats like a horse! Hero was neutered on May 25, is UTD on all shots and preventatives and microchipped. Even though Hero isn't exactly a Golden, he has a Golden personality.

Hero has settled in so well. He is a dream going into his kennel at bedtime and when we leave the house. He sleeps for 8 to 10 hours without making a peep. He has been perfect as far as potty training. He goes to the door when he has to go out and hasn't had an accident in the house. Hero was a bit rambunctious when being introduced to the resident dogs, but they were able to quickly show him the ropes and all is well. He loves to play with other dogs, but needs a few more lessons on manners since he can get a little rough with our resident dogs, Cooper (aka Romeo, 13-157) and Trackr (14-306). As each day passes, it is interesting to watch Hero adapt his play in order to engage Cooper and Trackr. Hero also stays away from our daughter's small dog who let him know she had no interest in wrestling whatsoever.

Hero loves going for walks. Since we live out in the country, our resident dogs walk off leash when home. Hero follows like a champ, but pulls hard on the leash. We are working on using the Gentle Leader, but he isn't too fond of it. He really does need to use a gentle leader or harness, however.

More Hero:

  • House trained.
  • Still very mouthy and bites a little hard when trying to play. This area is a work in progress.
  • Great in his kennel as long as treats are offered.
  • Does well on car rides and on the boat.
  • Hero would do well with children over 8.
  • Understands the commands, 'sit' and 'drop my shoe'! Haha Very treat motivated so easy to train!
  • Good recall. When outside, he comes quickly when called. Of course, he always gets a treat for coming!
  • Loves to play with other dogs, but needs to learn a few more manners.

This gorgeous boy needs a furever home. He is very lovable and will be the perfect companion...after a bit more socialization and obedience classes.

Super Hero has found his furever home, and he hit a home run with his new family. Walks in the park, fenced in yard, many dog friends nearby, and best of all, a very loving family.

Hero and his new BFF.

Dear Fans,

Hero here! Wow, it has been a great couple weeks living the golden life. I've added over 10 lbs., have a beautiful, shiny coat, and have become quite a charmer when meeting new dogs. My foster mom said that I needed socializing with dogs when I first arrived, and now I'm a pro at meeting new dogs. Hat tip to my boy, Trackr, for showing me the ropes.

Since the last update, I've hit the major leagues (actually minor leagues). I was featured as the St. Paul Saints Pet of the Game on Monday, June 13. The fans laughed really loud when I found the grass on the field and immediately went to the bathroom behind home plate. Yep, I was a HUUUUGE hit!

Today, my foster mom decided it was time to try the gentle leader so I won't pull so hard on the leash. To put it mildly, I'm definitely not a fan of the Gentle Leader. In fact, I decided I would just lay in the grass and not move unless she removed it. Foster mom kept mumbling something about "obedience training". This little game continued for about five minutes until she brought out the treats. Surprisingly, the mile walk was a lot of fun after the initial standoff (laydown!).

Some of my favorite things:

  • Dog cones from DQ
  • Car rides Walks
  • Treats
  • Hanging with my resident dogs, Trackr and Cooper
  • Chewing
  • Mealtime
  • Playing with other dogs

That is all for now. I see a pair of shoes laying on the floor, just waiting for me to chew!

Tail wagging,

Hero
