Eloise has found her forever home! Her extended family all have Goldens, so Eloise is excited to meet her cousins and have play dates. She left her mark on her foster neighborhood and on the hearts of all those she met. Her foster mom knows she will be a loving addition to her new family and couldn’t be happier for her.

Even lovers of purebred Goldens would have a hard time resisting Eloise's big brown eyes and curious face.

A lot has happened that Eloise wants you to know about.

  • Eloise has now been around kids of all ages and she passed with flying colors, behaving beautifully every time.
  • Eloise likes to hang out with people. Instead of being “in your face,” she likes to lie down "on your feet."
  • While she doesn’t demand attention (she’s a polite girl), she has yet to pass up a tummy or ear rub.
  • Eloise no longer is crated when I’m gone and finds a bed or cozy spot for napping.
  • Eloise has met many new people, and she takes treats gently from everyone, hardly touching the hand that offers the treat.
  • She played perfectly with a high-energy Brittany spaniel over the weekend (half her size) and when she was done (but he wasn’t), she simply put one of her long legs on his back as a way of saying, “Okay, buster, time to chill out!”

This foster mom wonders if she didn't hit the foster jackpot with Eloise. Never have I met such a great dog. She's sweet, laid-back, beautiful, and well-behaved. She may be the only dog I've met not motivated by treats. When offered a dog bone, she'll look at it, sniff it, then daintily take it, only to let it fall to the floor or ground and then consider whether she'll eat it or not. My other Goldens would have swallowed it whole.

Eloise is continuing to explore her neighborhood and meet her extended foster family. There isn't a dog she hasn't met—including the aggressive Doberman we walked with last Friday—that she didn't put at ease. She's a social girl! Over the weekend, she really enjoyed a walk along the Mississippi River, and didn't mind a bit getting her paws wet.

And when she's not out and about, she likes nothing more than to cuddle up for story time.

Who wouldn't want to adopt this lovely lady and be her forever family?

Eloise has really made the transition to her new country and foster home quickly. She has become the “talk of the neighborhood” and met Maggie and Winnie (Pugs), Minnie (Black Lab), Sophie (Terrier), Josie (Poodle), and Sally (Jack Russel). Every encounter has been a good one, judging by the sniffing and tail-wagging.

Eloise also got to play with a friend’s granddaughter, age 11, and loved the tummy rub she got.

Her foster mom continues to use Turkish commands, and they are working well. Even foster moms can be trained, apparently, to communicate in a language the dog understands!

This week, there was a big storm in the Twin Cities. That’s when I learned that Eloise doesn’t like thunder. Her adoptive family should be aware of her storm anxiety. It isn’t severe, so perhaps could be addressed.

Eloise is eager to meet her forever family!

Meet Eloise, who may be the only dog you’ll ever meet with her own passport! She made the long trip from Turkey only a week ago and, for a nearly-two-year-old, is already a great traveler. Besides loving her twice-daily walks, she likes going in the car, where she looks out the window or, if the view isn’t exciting, will settle down for a nap. After only a few days, she has settled in to her new life.

Eloise has so many amazing qualities, sometimes her foster mom forgets Eloise is a dog. She is calm and easy-going, even when a new person comes into the house or greets her when she’s out walking. She doesn’t bark except occasionally when playing, and then it’s to let you how much fun she’s having.

Speaking of fun, Eloise loves being out in the yard. Besides sunning herself, she keeps the squirrels out and patrols the gates to make sure all is safe. She has these cute bursts of energy, where she’ll sprint back and forth, grab a ball and play with it, then rush on for another spin. Otherwise, she’s one mellow girl.

Eloise had a family in Turkey, but wasn’t able to stay with them because she didn’t get along with their cats. Or maybe it was the other way around. It’s hard to imagine anyone or anything not getting along with her. In any case, Eloise will need a family that doesn’t have cats. But she has met nearly every kind of dog and unless a dog is aggressive to her, she’s very friendly.

Besides being a seasoned traveler, Eloise is bilingual! Her foster mom has used a handful of Turkish commands and she responds most of the time. Her forever family can continue to use these commands or introduce English equivalents. Her foster mom thinks using Turkish is a nice reminder of her origins, not to mention a great conversation starter when meeting other people while out on a walk (otur = sit).

Eloise goes into her crate without any fuss when her foster mom has to be gone. Once, her foster mom decided to see what would happen if she didn’t crate Eloise. The temptation proved too great. Eloise got into the kitchen garbage, which required opening a door (fortunately, there wasn’t much there) and slept on a bed. She didn’t harm anything in the process.

Everyone who has met Eloise comments on how beautiful she is. Her cream-colored coat is silky, and she stands tall, with a long, arching tail and feathered “skirt” on her rump. Some call her elegant, even regal. One thing is for sure. When you meet her, you’ll discover for yourself what a sweet, loving girl she is.
