I'm so pleased to introduce you to Winona - one of the cutest puppies ever! Winona and her brother, Ward, along with their mom, Olive, were picked up as strays and quickly brought into the RAGOM family. We are guessing that Winona is about 11 weeks old and growing right before our eyes. We've had her for about a week and she has charmed our resident dogs and has almost won over our other foster, Annabelle.

Winnie (Winona seems too formal for a puppy!) is about 14 pounds of sweetness. Over the course of this week, she has really gained confidence and everything she encounters in the house, in the yard, or even at the vet's is fun, fun, fun. She's an upbeat little girl who has great joy in chasing after the resident "big dogs" and trying to do whatever they do. Are they carrying a stick? Well, she can carry one too. Playing with a ball? Yep, she can do that too. Time to eat? Definitely, she can do that too and with gusto!

Winnie will be getting her rabies shot shortly and then will go in to be spayed and microchipped. When she came into RAGOM, she and her brother both had mange, but she is on the road to recovery now. She has one more treatment to go and we're hoping that will all be behind her, not that it stopped her from having fun at all!

In the time we've had her, Winne has only had 4 potty accidents and we think we're to blame for each of them. We've found great success in taking her outside each time she wakes up, after she eats, and after she's been playing. She seems to be catching on very well and two of her accidents were right by the door, so we think we clearly missed her signal and our sense of timing must have been off.

Winnie has only slept through the night once for us - she still needs to take a trip outside in the middle of the night, but lets us know when it's time by her restlessness and soft puppy sounds. She is a puppy who loves to cuddle and when she's tired from playing with the big dogs, loves to snuggle alongside you on the couch to snooze. Whenever we leave the house, we crate Winnie and she handles it quite well after a few initial whines and pleas to get out. When we come home, she's always sound asleep in her crate and we think only wakes up because the other dogs hear the garage door open.

Winnie will be ready to find her forever home when she's recovered from her upcoming spay surgery. We'll let you know how that goes, the vet thinks she's in good health and has no concerns. In the meantime, she's learning fun things like sit and shake. She is a quick study and anxious to please.

Winona (AKA Winnie, Winnie the Pooh, Winnebago, Winabelle) is now officially ready to find her forever family. She's had all of her shots and was spayed this week -- she was a real trooper and after a day and a half, she forgot entirely about the event. She is back to her active, busy self and is growing like crazy. She's now up to 22 pounds and we've moved her from the medium-sized crate to the big crate so she can have room to stretch her legs when we need to leave her at home. She helped welcome a new foster dog into the household last week and quickly found a playmate in Abby 14-176. Although they are not equally matched in size (the new foster is about 80 pounds), they are having a great time together. Frankly, I think the resident dogs were glad to have another dog around to help wear that puppy out!

Winnie easily sleeps through the night, is 95% housetrained, and has some very basic manners. She also has a joyous spirit, keen sense of fun, and an inquisitive but cautious approach to life. Tomorrow, she's going shopping with us at our favorite pet store in town to see what new toy might strike her fancy.

We really don't have a good sense of how big Winnie will be when she's done growing. Right now, she's at the size where you can welcome her onto your lap for a cuddle session. She also enjoys getting up on the bed (can't do it by herself yet!) to snuggle at night, although she has a dog bed like the resident dogs. She's become fast friends with Foster Dad and loves to softly chew on his ears if he'll let her, but as you can imagine, that doesn't happen too often!

Winnie is a delightful young girl - she's going to be at the RAGOM Meet and Greet in Iowa City November 15 if you'd like to meet her.

A big week for Winnie -- she can now sleep through the night! Huge steps forward for this sweet little girl. Winnie had a great trip to the vet this week where she weighed in at 18 pounds -- we thought she had been growing! I'm guessing in another two weeks, she'll no longer be able to walk under our resident dogs as a shortcut. It's been so funny to watch her dash under them on her way to the door or a special toy. She's getting big enough now that I don't think that's going to work much longer. The vet has scheduled to give Winnie her last shot in two weeks and then she will go in for her spay surgery. This little girl is growing up fast! But don't worry, there's still plenty of puppy in her yet. Our favorite thing is to hear her talking to herself, quietly mumbling as she walks down the stairs or sometimes as she looks for a toy. But other times, she has become much more vocal and she talks loudly and boldly to us, letting us know that it's time to play or toss a toy. I wouldn't exactly call this barking -- she's clearly "talking" to us!

Winnie has gone a week without any accidents in the house. We're all getting smarter and she's fitting in the household routine nicely. She's finally talked one of our dogs into playing puppy games with her and that's helped burn some of her energy. She has a constant need for toys now. She is happiest when she's chewing a puppy Nylabone or carrying one of her soft toys around. She enjoys a good game of fetch and absolutely loves to explore the backyard with our resident dogs. She sits nicely for her meals and is learning "shake" and "down," but those are still a work in progress!

Winnie is a very vibrant young girl who enjoys other dogs and her people (especially my husband!). Talk with your placement advisor if you think Winnie might be a good match for your household.

What a great week for Winnie -- she's really enjoying herself and learning new things every day. Today, she mastered climbing up on the sofa, something we're not too sure we're going to let her continue, but it was amazing watching her try so hard to figure it out that it really made our day. This little girl has more than just good looks -- she's a determined, smart little thing.

Winnie goes to the vet this week to get her rabies shot and the all-clear for her spay surgery. She's a very healthy girl who just this week decided to ramp up her appetite. When she came to our house, she was a dainty eater, but she's obviously growing and we think the vet will tell us she's gained a few pounds. You can watch her grow almost. We have no idea how big she's going to get, so we're going to ask the vet to give us her best guestimate.

Winnie has made it her ambition to win over our resident dogs and each day she makes more progress. She pours on the charm so that they give up their favorite toys and let her take them off to a far corner for her own enjoyment. Her favorite toys right now are puppy chew toys, soft Nylabone products that let her get some good teething done in a safe manner. And she absolutely loves two stuffed toys -- she's been very gentle with them, but it's so great to watch the games she invents. The best game is when she grabs the stuffed cow by the ear and then swings the toy towards one of the resident dogs. She clearly wants them to play tug-of-war, but they're not interested. She wags her tail so hard during all of this, it's just great to watch. We expect that tail wagging is going to be a lifestyle thing for her. She's a happy girl, enjoying life, and watching and learning so she'll be ready to find her forever family when she's recovered from her upcoming procedure.

If you're interested in this busy little girl, please talk with your placement advisor. Remember, however, that puppies really are a lot of work. She still needs to go outside in the middle of the night and she's teething like crazy so we have to make sure that she constantly has suitable toys or she might find something else to soothe that teething need. We're still working on housetraining with her and she's doing quite well, but not perfect yet. We know she'll master this shortly!
