Zeus’ new adoptive family (new to RAGOM) is very excited with their new dog. He is a terrific dog. A handsome devil. He just needs a little guidance with some discipline. He learned things so fast the short time he was here.
I suspect he’ll grow old in Duluth with his new family. It seemed a great fit.

Zeus is a pleasure to be around. His most favorite thing in the whole world is a never-ending belly rub. And sniffing around for wild critters. And belly rubs. He loves belly rubs.
He enjoys his daily walks and walks nicely about 80% of the time. It depends on how many critters he finds to sniff around for.
Zeus will hang out peacefully in the house and will pop up if he hears someone pull into the driveway. He'll make an okay guard dog as long as nobody actually breaks in.
He tries to play fetch but would do a much better job in a fenced-in yard. Currently he is on a long leash when outside so it prohibits some of his natural "talents." He enjoys wrestling, playing tug, and playing with is stuffed toys.
This fun-loving dog has recovered nicely from his recent neuter but, unfortunately, is starting to itch again from his allergies. He has been on a grain-free food for a month now and hopefully a good freeze will help a little.
Zeus is an energetic, enjoyable dog who will show you many different fun personalities as he grows with you. Oh, and he likes to pose for photos, too. Check them out.

Zeus is becoming a really fun dog. He was looking for some guidance when he first arrived and is really starting to thrive now. He loves to try to chase bunny rabbits and squirrels when out on his runs but also loves to lay at your feet, or if you let him, peacefully on your bed.
He does respect boundaries in the house. He does not jump on the furniture or counter surf. He does go from window to window to watch you outside if you forget him inside.
Although we've had a lot of rain, we have not had any thunderstorms. So we can't report on any storm anxieties, but we suspect he will be fine.
With the month of rain we have not been able to meet up with our neighbor yet for a dog "drive-by" to see how he walks past other dogs, but we hope to soon. He was just neutered Friday so we are hoping that some of his aggression he showed towards another dog is curbed.
Zeus has a lot of positive energy and one of his favorite things to do is lay on his back and smile. He has a good appetite and a good attitude. He is a very brave dog (sometimes too brave) and his confidence is going to take him places. Continue to follow his journey to finding his new home.

Zeus is a fun dog who is very willing to learn. We started clicker training with him and he is learning: sit, wait, here, and leave it. He will now sit and wait for his food dish to be put on the ground.
He is starting to recognize his name (mostly likely a new name given to him when he was picked up as a stray) and is starting to come to us when called. This area still needs a lot of work. If there is a distraction his mind is definitely elsewhere.
Now that he is on a routine we are revising his energy level from "high" to "medium." He enjoys his morning and afternoon walks. He goes for a run a couple of times a week but does not need to. He will lay with all four legs up in the air all night if he knows there is a chance you'll scratch his belly.
He has shown aggression towards another dog that we met on one of our walks so this week we will find another neighbor dog to "test" him out on. He now gets along fine with our resident dog and they even try to play tug of war peacefully. Watch for next week's update if you are interested in him but see this area as a concern.
Zeus will chase small animals in the "wild." He's always been on a leash (again, limited recall) so it has not been an issue. He has free roam of the house when we are gone and there have been no signs of a destructive anxiety level. He does not bark as much when left alone inside. He has continued to improve in this area.
It has been fun to watch him grow into his paws mentally each day as he learns more about the dog/human teamwork thing. He's going to make someone's home a happy home.

Zeus has been in our household for a week now and he's starting to learn the ropes, but he has quite a bit of learning to do. He is going to make someone a wonderful dog, but they will need to put some quality time in working with him, not just quantity.
Zeus is a high-energy dog who loves to run. In fact, he enjoys it so much that he will jump a 4-foot fence or let himself out of a door that is not secured all the way. He will open a gate that does not have "proper" latches for an escape artist, and he'll try to sneak past you while you are entering or exiting your home.
Because Zeus currently lacks "recall" it is extremely important that all latches and escape routes are secured properly.
Zeus is housebroke and cleans up his food dish in a timely manner. He eats fine next to our resident dog, but sharing toys and treats is not really his thing. For this reason, he should not live with another alpha dog.
He is very happy to play on his own with his toys and sometimes likes to chew the stuffing out as well. He does enjoy going for walks and runs with our resident dog and relaxes peacefully next to her if neither is interested in a toy.
Zeus currently lives with two cats. Because we have only known him for a week we would not consider him completely cat proof yet. Cat #1 does not run or walk away from him and they love on each other. Cat #2 will sometimes run from Zeus and then it becomes a game, and cat #2 finds his safe zone to run to. Zeus will try to chase "new to him" cats that he may see on his walks.
We will start taking him out next week to see how he interacts with other dogs and older children.
Zeus does enjoy the companionship of humans and will bark for a little bit when left alone. Today he barks less than he did last week, so this could be a thing that would pass. But in the meantime it is something to be aware of.
We see a lot of potential with this young dog for someone who wants a dog to play fetch with or even possibly hunt with. Follow his updates to see if you and/or your family will be a good fit for this boy.
