Please welcome Miss Charlotte into RAGOM! She came all the way from Turkey and is excited to start her new life in America. Earlier this year in Turkey Charlotte was hit by a car and she then spent the last few months in a vet office recovering before making her trip across the ocean. She is about a year and half old, spayed and up to date on her shots. She went to the vet and does have a double ear infection that she is currently taking meds for. Other than that she is in perfect health and is a great size at about 45 pounds. Charlotte is a very playful young girl and is having a lot of fun with our 3 and 1 year old male resident goldens. She immediately liked our 3 year old but did take a couple of days to settle in and get comfortable before she really warmed up to our very rambunctious, in-your-face, 1 year old. Now they are best friends and spend most of their time playing bitey-face and chasing each other around the house and yard. Charlotte also loves people and loves to be petted. She thinks she is a lap dog and luckily with her smaller size it works pretty well. She very quickly adjusted to the luxuries of her new life, in between playing she can be found napping on the nearest couch or bed.

 

Charlotte does fine crated for a full work day but we do come home at lunch to let her out. She is also crated at night and sleeps all night without a peep. Charlotte is not potty-trained as she doesn’t let us know yet when she needs to go out, but she has not had any accidents and we just take her out every 1-2 hours when we are home and she will do her business.

Like most of the Turkey dogs Charlotte does exhibit some resource guarding of food and toys from other dogs. She loves to play with toys and will sometimes play tug of war with our dogs but other times when our younger dog will try to take toys from her she appropriately tells him that she’s not sharing. We feed her in her crate which she is fine with. We haven’t seen any resource guarding from people though. Charlotte needs either a secure fence or a tie out as she will try to run if given the chance and she has a very high prey drive.

Charlotte has been here for a couple of weeks now and she is doing great. She has really settled in and relaxed. She has learned how to sit and stay (sometimes!) and has learned to come when her name is called. She takes treats nicely and has no problem being in close proximity with our other two dogs while everyone is getting treats. As she has gotten more comfortable her resource guarding of toys from our dogs has greatly decreased as well.

We’ve had a couple of storms and she has no storm anxiety, she sleeps right through them at night. Charlotte loves car rides; she hops right in and will lay down to take a nap or nicely sit and watch out the window. We had to go out of town this past weekend so Charlotte spent the weekend with another RAGOM foster. Per the sitter she did wonderfully and settled in very quickly. She even won over the resident dogs and got them to play with her all weekend. She also had the chance to be cat-tested while there. Interestingly enough, she was afraid of the cats and stayed far away from them! So she could do well with a dog-savvy cat. Charlotte has still not had any accidents and didn’t have any accidents at the sitter’s house either, so I would say she is house-trained.

Charlotte is such a sweet girl; she loves people and loves to get attention. She does a very good job of entertaining herself with toys and has had a lot of fun zooming around the backyard with our resident dogs. She is a happy golden who would love a home of her own.
