Well, I'm here to tell you that this real Golden Life is just the bomb and really rocks. I came from an auction in Missouri and I am thought to be around three years old, so I have probably had several litters of puppies already. Well, no more. I weigh 64 lbs. I will be spayed toward the middle of October, so I will not be available for adoption until then. When I first got to my temporary foster home, I was pretty scared and nervous, just because I did not know what was going on. I still get a little nervous, but I have come so far in just the three weeks that I have been here. I know my name and come when I am called. I am kenneled when no one is home and I sleep in the bedroom at night with the door closed. When is it time to get up, I need to go out and potty right away, or I tend to piddle at times if I have to wait to go out.

Foster Mom and Dad live in the county, and Foster Mom took me for a walk down the driveway to get the mail to see how I would do. It was kind of scary. I walked pretty well on the leash, but would stop every once in a while on the way down. On the way back, I did really well, but was still a little nervous at times. My favorite thing to do is to lay on my back with my feet up so you can rub my belly. I also like to be brushed. I get along real well with the resident dogs and the other two foster brothers that are here. I basically ignore the cats. I like laying on the cool tile kitchen floor. I sleep there a lot. I love just laying on the grass in the backyard.

Foster Mom is trying to teach me to sit, but all I want to do it lay on my back so she will rub my belly. Today, for the first time, I put my front legs on the counter to see what was going on. Not sure what I was looking for, but when Foster Mom told me to get down, that we do not do that, I listened to her. Keep watching me here. When I get to my permanent foster home, they will see how I am doing there and will tell you more about me.

Maggie is such a lucky girl -- a wonderful family has adopted her, and she's moved to Minnesota to lead a wonderful life with an at-home foster mom and a dad who will certainly appreciate having someone to wake him up bright and early every day. On top of that, Maggie has a Golden brother who is anxious to play with her and help her enjoy life. Maggie is truly blessed; her life as a breeder dog is over, and now she gets to enjoy being a loved family member. It was hard to say goodbye, but it really is a story with a happy ending. We couldn't be more pleased with the way things turned out. Maggie, it's your time to shine; you go, girl!

Maggie sailed through her spay surgery this last week without any complications. She was a bit scared, but shook that off when we went to pick her up at the end of the day. She took a day or two to lounge around and recover, but now she's back to her usual self. She still enjoys a good nap (or two), but she also likes playing with her dog buddies and following her foster dad room to room as he moves about the house. She's getting much better on a leash and is very calm unless there are some unusual sounds or activities.

Maggie is going to have company next weekend - we're hoping her first foster mom might come for a quick visit to see how she's blossomed. She's been in RAGOM's care for around two months and she in no way resembles the frightened girl she had been. She has learned so much -- learned how to jump on the bed for morning snuggles, learned that food is eaten in a dog dish, has learned household routines, enjoys going for rides in the car, and meets people and dogs readily. When we took her with us to buy dog food this weekend, she was anxious to say hello to each and every dog in the store. For some reason, she's decided that she doesn't want to get on the furniture, and we are just going to quit enticing her up. We know that some people like dogs on the floor instead of the couch, so we're going to count that as an asset.

She's learned to enjoy Sunday pancakes, waffles, and French toast. She's definitely a morning girl and hates to sleep in. Breakfast is her favorite time of the day, and getting her meds wrapped in a bit of leftovers is just icing on the cake.

Interested in Miss Maggie? Let your placement advisor know -- Maggie needs a patient family, preferably a family with experience with a rescue or puppy mill mom. She is exceptionally sweet and loves to be talked to. Being petted and snuggling in bed is special time every morning!

She's a beautify girl, in more ways than just one!

Maggie had a great week, and today was extra special. We had company over for lunch and new dogs to play with in the backyard, and Maggie did wonderfully. She is very good at meeting new dogs and really hasn't met a dog she doesn't like. A great way to go through life, we think!

Maggie goes in for her spay surgery this Wednesday, and we expect that will be smooth sailing for her. She's in good health and great spirits. Her medication has helped her relax and settle in nicely, and she showed her great spirit with the new dog friends she made today -- she actually started to play! We're pretty certain this is a new experience for her, as she was primarily in mom mode in her previous life. But today, for the very first time, she romped and ran and enjoyed herself -- nothing like company to perk a girl up!

Here are some photos - she is one lovely little girl! Maggie's forever home should be one where she has another dog to help her learn the ropes and build her confidence and should be a home with the patience to help Maggie continue to grow. She's really blossoming and we can hardly wait to see the dog she's going to become!

I'm so happy to update you on the lovely Miss Magnolia - or Maggie as we call her. We've taken some time to get to know her; we really have fallen for her. She's a sweet girl, a bit uncertain about the world, but learning new things and gaining in confidence each and every day. When she first came into RAGOM's care, she had been nursing puppies, but she's about to put those mommy years behind her as she gets spayed the first week in October, and we're all pretty darn excited about that important step. She's in good health current on her vaccinations, and she enjoys going to the vet. The vet has been so nice to Maggie, and Maggie does very well there. The first time we took her there, we had one of our resident dogs go with her in case she needed encouragement, but that's not necessary. She does well and now takes a treat willingly from the vet, something she was reluctant to do the first time!

Maggie has quickly figured out the household routine and wakes up eagerly each morning to get breakfast. She loves breakfast. She loves any meal, truth be told. She has figured out where to stand to wait for her food dish and pretty much leaves our resident dogs alone while they eat their food. She gets along famously with our resident dogs; in fact, she met them all easily, and everyone has gotten along famously from day one. She's a very gentle girl, quick to turn over so you can rub her tummy. It's taken a while for her to learn that there aren't scary things that are going to happen at our house - we think she's probably not had a lot of opportunity to do the things that other dogs take for granted. She's now learned to jump on the bed for snuggles, to settle in on the couch while we watch TV, to jump in the car to go for a ride. But when she first came to our home, she acted like all those things were pretty much new experiences, and that's a shame, we think.

Our house is being remodeled right now, so it's a bit noisy with lots of people coming and going. Maggie doesn't seem stressed by that at all; instead, she uses the opportunity to go to her bed and take a nap, sometimes multiple naps, until the crew is gone. She loves my husband and she loves me; she doesn't have favorites, and I like that. She's not had much chance to play with kids yet, so that's something we'll find out more about in the next few weeks.

When Maggie first joined our household, she did seem a bit overwhelmed and unsure of herself. After talking with the vet, we decided to give Maggie medication to reduce her anxieties, and the meds seem to be working like a charm. The meds are cheap if you purchase them from one of the large chain stores, less than $10/month. This coming week, we're going to start working with her so that she's comfortable using a crate so she can be safe when we're not at home. We'll want to make sure she's good with a crate before we find her a forever home.

Maggie lost a lot of her fur right before she came to our home. Maybe it was the change in seasons; maybe it was the fact that she had just had puppies -- it's hard to know. But now she's working on growing some new coat so she'll have that lovely Golden Retriever look from head to tail. She's cream-colored with a bit of light gold on her ears and along her back. She's a medium-sized Golden, easy to cuddle with. Yesterday, she learned something new -- she was watching our other dogs jump up onto the short wall around our patio, and pretty soon, she was doing it, too. I'm guessing she's never done anything like that before in her entire life!

Maggie's forever home should be somewhat calm and should have another dog to help Maggie learn the ropes and continue to grow in confidence. She really relies on other dogs to let her know what's what. She's reluctant to take treats, for instance, unless she sees our other dogs take a treat. This morning, she watched them enjoy French toast and she decided it was probably safe to try -- she even gently took a bite off the fork, definitely a new skill!

Here are some pictures of Maggie. We'll post next week before she goes in for surgery and then let you know how she's doing. In the meantime, we're enjoying having her in our home and we think she's enjoying her time with us and learning the joys of being a dog!
