This is the most recent information available; however, it may change as we learn more about the dog.

Please welcome the beautiful, confident Wynona to RAGOM! Miss Wynona was found as a stray full of burrs and mats and brought to a humane society by a Good Samaritan. After a lot of scrubbing, cutting and brushing, she is turning into a gorgeous dog with a sweet personality to match. She is a purebred Golden Retriever, approximately 12 years old, weighs 73 pounds and received all of her vaccinations while at the humane society. Her temperament is relaxed and calm. She has no anxieties or resource guarding. Wynona does great with children, good with cats and loves to play with other dogs. She keeps her blankets nice and tidy in her kennel. She loves taking walks and does well minding a leash.

Wynona had stiff joints when she first arrived, but with regular walks and arthritis medicine, she is getting around fine, although going down steps is still a challenge. Wynona is deaf and uses her eyes and nose to keep track of you. She is obedient and wants to be near you. She is smart and picks up on our routines quickly. She seems content lying on the floor and has not attempted to get on furniture or counter surf in the kitchen. She has a skin tag on her left upper eyelid which is irritating her eye and a few lumps and bumps, typical of older Goldens. Later this week, she will have a wellness exam by a RAGOM vet and we will let you know how that goes.

If you'd like to show support for Wynona, there will be a Foster Fan Board at RAGOM's annual fundraising event called GOLDZILLA (see home page for info.) Foster Paw Print Stickers can be purchased and put next to Wynona's photo (or other available foster dogs, as well!)

Updates

Monday, September 26, 2016

Wynona received a clean bill of health from the vet during her wellness exam, except for arthritis in her elbows. Regular exercise (walks on a leash) along with arthritis medicine will help to keep her joints fluid. A standard blood screen test showed normal functioning for her organs and blood clotting. Her ear infections are gone. And, the skin flap on her left upper eyelid was removed.

Along with her improved health, regular leashed walks are increasing Wynona's strength and endurance. I often see her beautiful tail wagging these days and she has begun playing fetch with a tennis ball, knowing how to drop it at your feet without being asked. Wynona's age is anybody's guess; now that she is feeling better, she seems like she could be as young as 10 years.

Wynona will make someone a great companion. She doesn't bark, just requires short leashed walks, and has a sweet warm personality.
