Daniel is a very cuddly, happy, social boy, with bounds of energy. He loves being around his human, and loves meeting new human friends. He will cuddle with you for days. He likes his toys (rope and tennis balls), and he responds well to training. He knows "sit," "down," and "heel," and he now walks fairly well on a leash. He will wait for you to tell him to eat his food, and he loves kefir for his treat! He is hysterical when he plays with his rope, and he loves to be near the people he loves. He is 5 years old, but you will find him often acting like he is still just a pup. He is smart and eager to please, and consistent training is key for him.

Daniel has a bit of a prey drive, and also some instinctual protectiveness. He is looking for a home with no cats, and he would do best as the only dog in the house. He will bark at other dogs, though he has been working on this. His friendly bark sounds a little scary, so sometimes people don’t know he just wants to play. Some socialization would be beneficial.

He came into foster care with a several ticks on him and an ear infection. He tested negative for tick illnesses, and his ear infection has been cleared up. He hasn’t had any accidents in the house since the first day, as he knows that his home is his home, and he likes keeping his house nice.

He crates well when his foster mom is not at home, though he barks for a few minutes when she leaves. He has mild storm anxiety, but he settles down with comforting. He currently sleeps on the floor in his foster mom’s room, so he doesn’t need to sleep in the bed. He also knows not to get on the couch. He jumps a little when he’s excited to go outside, but he is getting better. His foster mom thinks that he had a pretty rural life before, cause it seemed like he had never seen a bicycle, firetruck, school bus, etc before. He was a little scared of these things at first, and would lunge and bark at them, but he has gotten used to all of these things now. He does great with baths, and he’s super fluffy and soft when he’s all freshened up! He is a little grabby with treats, but he does not resource-guard and is okay with giving up his bones and toys when asked to.

He would do well with a family where he is not left alone for too much of the day. He loves kids, though he might need to learn how to not lean into (cuddle) little kids if there are small children in the home.

He loves walks and runs! He is a good running partner, which has helped him lose a little weight in foster care. While a physical fence would be nice, the only requirement is that he does not have an invisible fence, as he would probably run right through it if there was a bunny on the other side of his boundary zone. He is strong and will pull when he wants to, so a future owner will have to recognize this and work on teaching him to not lunge for things he wants.

What a weekend! :)

Daniel had a great time this Fourth of July weekend! He went camping at Fort Ridgley State Park, and he even got to play some golf! He did so well just tagging right along with all the fun. He was tuckered out by the drive home and slept the whole way. Daniel had a little dog friend along all weekend too, and he did well with the friendly company at the campground site. He kept good watch to warn us when other strange people or dogs were coming into our site.

We stayed home for the Fourth of July fireworks, but we could hear them going off and Daniel didn’t even acknowledge them. This actually reminds his foster mom to mention that he doesn’t seem to have thunderstorm anxieties anymore!

Daniel is responding very well to consistent training, and he seems to know what his mom wants him to do almost before she even says it! He walks and runs beautifully, and he is getting much better at calmly walking past other dogs on the trails.

Daniel loves being active, and he would like to be placed in a family who is willing to keep his adventure level up. He has gotten in great shape in foster care, and would love to keep his fit frame in the future by just eating his doggie kibble (twice a day) and staying active. He never begs for people food, and he doesn’t dig in the trash (which is open), so this should be pretty easy!

If it seems like this super friendly guy would be a good bud for you, please check in with RAGOM!

Daniel had a great time camping this weekend! He loved being outside with lots of fun people around, and he did really well in the tent at night with his foster mom. He also had a lot of fun at a softball game last week; he loves being the team mascot!

Daniel is a sweetheart. He is a people lover, and he would love to have a best friend to be around. He reminds his foster mom of Hobbes from Calvin and Hobbes, or Rover from Red and Rover. He follows his foster mom around, and he likes to know where she is. It would be nice for him to be able to fit right into someone's life as a cherished companion. He is easy-going on car rides, and likes to sleep in the backseat on his pillow.
