Ranger is a sweet 7-month-old golden mix who will make his future family very happy. He entered RAGOM at the end of April 2016 when he was brought to a shelter with a broken rear leg. After a week of being casted, it was determined that he needed a plate and screws to help his leg mend. He is recovering wonderfully here with us in Cedar Rapids, IA and is as playful and cute as ever!

He loves to cuddle and will follow you around like a ‘velcro’ dog. He likes to be near (or on) you at all times, even when he is chewing his antler. He has been chewing appropriately – the only time he has been destructive was during his first couple transfers when he chewed through his leashes.

He still occasionally does gentle, puppy mouthing on hands, but responds well when corrected. Ranger is very eager to please! He can sit and shake and we have been working on ‘wait’ when his food is set down or when a door is opened. He is housebroken and knows he is supposed to ‘go’ right away when taken outside. He has the most beautiful light brown eyes and his adorable ears stick up like a fox. He perks up every time he sees you, even if you are just entering from another room.

He has a thick, fluffy coat with a bushy tail. He is soft and doesn’t mind being brushed. He is a light golden color with white undercoat and some white spots on his legs. His legs are short and he weighs 55 lbs at his vet appointment this week. Ranger loves treats and will watch you very closely when you have food. He takes his treats gently from your hand and so far hasn’t shown food aggression. He enjoys Kongs with peanut butter and kicking his tennis ball around with his paws. He has been known to toss his toys up in the air and then chase after them! He still has a lot of cute puppy behaviors. Ranger barks for a while when left alone in a kennel. It takes him a while to calm down so today we let him have free roam of the house while we were at work and he did wonderfully. He hasn’t barked at all while we have been home.

He sleeps in our room on the floor at night. Ranger’s first temp foster said he loved the resident dog – he would follow him everywhere and sniff everything he sniffed! He would probably love to have another dog in the household to play with, although not required. The shelter told us he passed the cat test – so this would be a possibility too. He has been very friendly with neighbor kids. Ranger is neutered, microchipped, up to date on vaccinations (final booster next week), and negative for heartworm.

Ranger (now Snorey) is off to his forever home! His leg is healing wonderfully and he loves to go on walks and pounce on tennis balls. He is the most loving, unique, affectionate Golden pup. We were so lucky to be his foster family and are so excited for his new adoptive family!!

With the warmer weather, Ranger has found a new hobby in watching and chasing fireflies. He’s also found that the spray of a hose is pretty entertaining too.

Everything is more fun with this little guy! His crimpy-haired ears are as cute as ever and his coat is as soft as it looks. He is doing great being confined to the kitchen while we are at work, no accidents at all, however he is pretty smart and figured out how to turn the corner cabinet/lazy susan and got into some extra snacks the other day!

He loves belly scratches and jumps up on the bed at 5:30am every day for his morning snuggles. We are still working on small puppy mouthing, mostly when he is really excited or meeting people for the first time.

Ranger LOVES to play. He is very generous with his toys, no signs of guarding. When he has a bone or antler he will bring it up to show you and sometimes drop at your feet. He is very smart and has figured out to bounce or throw his Kong to get the treats out faster. He will be very happy when he is off remaining activity restrictions (just a little longer!). He is very curious and will be ready to go for walks and run around! He will need to be leash trained for walks.. Seems to want to roam (which is what got him hurt in the first place).

Since Ranger is getting more comfortable in our house, he is also getting a bit more destructive if left alone for long periods of time. It seems to be out of boredom and later in the day, so we are hopeful this won't be the case if he has a playmate or doesn't have to be left alone for 8+ hours. He has never been destructive while we are home, just follows one of us around.. He is the definition of a Velcro dog. Great companionship though as he is still as sweet as ever!

Ranger's leg is continuing to heal wonderfully; you might never know he had surgery if it weren't for his shaved leg! Another couple weeks and he will be able to go on longer walks and play fetch. He is eager to play 'tug' and brings us toys in hopes that we will toss. He is a hilarious combination between a coordinated soccer player who kicks around tennis balls, yet clumsy puppy who still runs into things (even doors).

His free range has now been restricted to kitchen-only after a few accidents and one sandal fatality. He has not been barking when we leave, some whining, but would still probably enjoy either a human or canine friend at home with him during the day. He is very affectionate and just wants to be close to you at all times. He is famous for his 'plop and roll-over' to get a belly scratch almost every time you start petting him. We are still working on puppy mouthing, especially when he gets excited. It's very gently but slobbery. He has mastered 'wait' when placing his food on the ground until you release him with the command 'okay' - sometimes we can't believe he is only 7 months old!
