Please welcome Miss Annie to RAGOM.  She is 5 years old and just a tad over weight with a beautiful red coat.  Annie's family loved her enough to give her up to RAGOM so she could be vetted for some serious ear issues.   So, Annie, welcome to the RAGOM family.

Due to the bad weather and the need for some 'need now' vetting, Gretchen picked up Miss Annie, got her to the vet where she needed some surgery on her right ear flap and the removal of a 'bump' from her left front leg.  By the time Annie was out of the vet's, Mary was able to pick her up for transport on Thursday and meet me.  As luck would have it, I happened to be in the cities and we were able to save everyone a long transport.  (Not to mention I got to REI for a quick gift pick up:)  So a big THANK YOU to Gretchen and Mary.

Miss Annie is so sweet, she hasn't barked, is house trained, loves to have ears scritched and moans when you do.  Because she has stitches in her ear (see picture) she must wear a collar and protection to keep her from scratching and shaking the ear around.  Her ear is now starting to heal/itch and she loves to go out and just bury her head in the snow and slide.  It's hard to keep her and the ear dry.  We were told she does like to dig, just a FYI LOL

Upon arrival I found she wasn't pleased to come in the door or down the hallway.  We were told she is a bit skittish on vinyl floors and now with this big collar she has no sense of where the floor and walls are.  The first night, Thursday, she wouldn't leave the kitchen and the big dog bed, except to go and do her business and only then if I opened the sliders all the way.  After the snow fall, we worked on going out via the garage.  FInally last night I was able to convince her to come down 7 steps from the kitchen to the family room.  Then when it was bedtime she decided she was up for climbing the other steps and spent the night in the bedroom on a doggie bed.  She's eating good twice a day considering she was free fed before.  I have to make sure to point out the water bowls to be sure she gets enough water.  It's sad to see her pick up a bone and not be able to hold it between her paws and be able to chew it:(

Today Jax, my cocker, finally got past the collar and played bowed and tried to engage her in play.  This was a big deal as he is afraid of everything.  She came off the deck and they ran and chased a bit.  I think feeling better with no collar she would interact very well.  She did live with 2 chi's so she is accustomed to being around little dogs.

Right now we are looking at 2 weeks till the sutures are removed, so Miss Annie will be staying put.  She is sweet, loving, loves the attention but at this time isn't showing that velcro behavior but I think it's due to the collar.  She is fine around my 3 cats, just ignores them.  We are working on taking treats 'nice' and I'm sure she'll have it down pat soon.  It's hard to say exactly who Miss Annie is since I feel the collar really inhibits her.  But she's making progress going in and out via the long hall and garage door.   With time and getting comfortable with the collar I think we'll see more of her personality.

Annie will be able to meet prospective families in the near future.  If you think she could possibly be a fit with your family, please contact your placement advisor and we can chat on the phone.  Meanwhile we'll just sit back and watch Annie show us her true personality.

By the way did you ever wonder how the dogs get their 'number'?  The 10 stands for 2010 and the 373 means Miss Annie is the 373rd dog brought into RAGOM this year.  Amazing isn't it?  Without our volunteers and the generous fans and donations we couldn't do it.  So thanks to all who made Miss Annie's vetting and arrival happen!!

We love you forever

It is with so much sadness that we said goodbye to our beloved Annie (10-373) on 11-8-16 just shy of her 10th birthday. She was sick for a very short time which made saying goodbye so very hard. She passed away at home with me by her side. She was with us for 6 short years and really was the perfect dog for our family. While we were looking for our first rescue golden, she ultimately found us via her foster - Joyce, and she felt like a family member from day one. Joyce - thank you for allowing us to be Annie's forever family, we can never thank you enough.

Our 2 kids came up with a plan on who's room she would sleep in and "traded" every 3 nights - they loved taking her to the dog park, going on walks, bringing her to baseball games but most of all we loved just hanging out in the family room together. Annie's only bad "habit" was sleeping on our bed when we were not home! She loved a good pillow and ultimately decided to sleep in our room most nights.

We think about her often and miss her warm welcome when we come home, watching her chase squirrels off the deck and remind us when it's time for bed. We love you Annie, thank you for being such a wonderful part of our family and sharing your love with us. We miss you, but know you are feeling better and being your happy self again on the rainbow bridge.

Hi All. I am enjoying my forever family and can't say again how much I appreciate RAGOM for finding me a new home. I'm still getting 2 baths a week, so my fur is SUPER soft, but it keeps my itching to a minimum. I love my two human siblings and take turns sleeping in their rooms. I really don't mind having to sleep on the end of the bed if that's what makes them happy. Now that it has warmed up a bit, we get to the dog park and run around with other dogs more often and I like meeting new humans almost as much as the dogs.

Hope everyone is enjoying the warmer weather. Gotta go and take a nap...

Love,
Annie

Hi All, Annie has been in her furever home about a week now and it feels like she has been here forever!  Our family is so happy she found us and we could not have said yes to a better dog than Miss Annie.  She has loved the walks and lots of attention from everyone and is so eager to please.  It is surprising as she only plays with her toys and leaves the shoes, mittens and Barbies alone.

Annie plays fetch with her gingerbread toy and is not thrilled at getting 2 baths/showers a week but she tolerates it well and patiently waits to be done.  Her ear is completely healed and she is on her way to living out the life all Goldens should have.

Miss Annie Ba nan ee met her furever family right before Christmas.  Since they would be gone all day Christmas eve it was decided it was best they bring her home the day after Christmas.  So Annie spent her holiday with her foster family, friends and 5 other dogs.  She was good as gold and loved the puppy, Daisy the golden lab, and played and played.  All our family kept saying 'how can you give her up?'.  Well, it wasn't easy, but knowing she would be an only fur butt, have a human brother and sister, be the center of their world, would be loved and go to school............how could I say no to that for her.  This is a very special family as they were adopting Annie knowing she still is on meds, will need 2 baths a week, (for awhile) will have to be re-checked and there is no guarantee she won't have allergies, and still they wanted her.

Her new human brother thought 5 might be too old, but after meeting Annie he fell in love.  She spent her first night sleeping on his bed about half the night and then enjoyed the rest on the floor.   He and his sister have been taking her for walks, playing with her and loving her every minute.  Annie's new mom will send in her own update and pictures and you can just tell how happy everyone is with the new arrangement and family member.

So Miss Annie Ba nan ee we miss you, I even called for you to go out and potty the night  you left:( but I know you will have the GReatest life ever and your new life began when you rode away.

Hi everyone, it's Miss Annie Ba nan ee here.  Yep, that's what FM calls me, and she said I could do my own update.  So now I can tell you the real scoop on how I'm doing.  I'm on my new meds and will take 2 a day for a month, then 1 a day for a month.  Hopefully, by then the old yeast infection that was really driving me nuts will be gone.  I'm weaning off my prednisone, though to be honest I never had an accident or any trouble on it.  But then again it was/is a real low dosage.  I am eating good food and get green beans with it.  Something about I need to lose a few pounds according to FM (boy that's the pot calling the kettle if ya know what I mean)  I get 4 little baby treats every night before bed and I just loooovvveeee them.  I think I should stay on my good doggie food forever cuz I'm doing so well with it.  My doctor told me that once all the meds are done I should be good to go.  Will always have to watch the ears and hopefully there will be no allergy probs for me come spring.

Lake the Lab from next door was over on Saturday and boy did we have a good time.  He loves to run real fast and then Jax (resident cocker) and I chase him around and around.  We all needed a good nap after that.  Callie the Cavalier tries to keep up with us, but she's too little.  I am always gentle with her and the cats.  She likes to chase the cats and I will follow, but I never lead the pack. I'm cool with cats.

I've been sorta hinting to FM at bedtime that I should get up on the bed with the other 2 dogs, but so far it's been a no go.  So guess I'm ok on the floor whether it's on a doggie bed or not.  I love chewing on bones and soft toys, and I share nicely as you can see in the pic of me and Jax sharing a toy.  I'm still working on the sit and wait for food and treats, but man it's hard, when it's time to eat give up the food already!!!

FM says I have the happiest tail she has ever seen cuz it's always thumping out a happy tune.  Well, hey what's not to be happy about.  I got my ear fixed,
I'm eating good, playing nice, getting loved up (the old Golden paw routine) and I just want my foster family to know I sure do appreciate it.  I'm doing better in the shower so that when FM says "Annie Ba nan ee stand up" I almost always do so.  I am not thrilled with 2 showers a week and FM says that my happy tail sure does water down the bathroom, but hey I look at it as an opportunity for FM to clean the bathroom 2 times a week LOL

I sure love it out side and even though I may be considered a 'runner' I can surprise you.  I want you to know that someone (FD) left the gate open on the deck
and then left Lake and I out to play.  Well, hello, open deck...... off we went.  FM came out and found us gone, boy was FD in trouble.  He was suiting up to go look for us when FM whistled and called for us and we BOTH came back.  Brownie Points!!!!!  So rumor has it I would be happiest in a fenced yard and would do well going through a round of obedience class to help get better educated on the come command out side.

Christmas is around the corner and I had hoped to be in my furever home by now, but maybe I'll celebrate the New Year in one.  We have company coming for Christmas Eve and Day and there will be 6 of us canines!!  There will be me, Jax, Callie, an ex-ragom girl Haley, her new sister Daisy the 10 week old lab, and cousin Bruno the 3 legged German Shepherd.  Wonder if they'll let us join them for dinner...............

Merry Christmas everyone.  Stay tuned for the holidays pictures.

love Annie

It has been a busy time at our house with Annie and her 'cone'.  I have the black and blue marks to prove it:) As of today she is cone free, if she doesn't lick.  This afternoon I took her cone off and she wanted up on the bed with the other 2 dogs.  I finally gave in and called her up.  She is one of those girls who wants to be right next to  you.  Nap time was ok but will see how it goes tonight.

Annie went to the vet today to have the sutures removed and do a blood test.  She is weaning off the steroids and has a few antibiotics left to take.  We are hoping she can go on a new medicine to get rid of the  yeast infection.  Meanwhile the itching is down and with 2 baths a week and some soothing leave on lotion she is doing well and her coat is beautiful.

As you can see by the pictures Annie loves her lovin up, is fine with the other 2 little dogs (Jax my resident cocker and Callie a guest while her mom is in FL).  She has discovered the couch is a great place to relax, but never gets up without permission.  She is willing to share a doggie bed with who ever wants. She was pretty good getting at the bones with the cone on, but now is able to really enjoy them and carries one around a lot.  She has the happiest tail and it always wagging away to show you how happy she is.  I have tried to get a picture of her without her cone and each time she closes her eyes so will have to keep working at it.

Annie's ears are looking good, she has lost 3 lbs (she is on grain free food and green beans:)  She is good with cats, is not a big barker, but will happily join in with anyone who starts.  She still will hit the floor sometimes when  you reach for her.  She is 'dead weight' in the shower, but is learning 'stand up' when I need her to let me wash/rinse her under carriage.  She loves the outdoors and will even lay on the deck when given the opportunity.  She loves to run, jump and play with the other dogs.  She is just the sweetest girl. We are working on taking treats nicely and sitting and waiting for food.  She is a big girl with some nice sized paws, and still likes to stand up to give you a hug once in a while.   She wouldn't do well around little kids, but older kids would be fine.  Obedience school would be a great gift for Annie to help her learn the 'rules' a bit better.  Over all she is a beautiful girl, happy, loves her humans and does the old flip the hand and pet me trick.  I have no idea how she will be on lead for walks as I have a torn tendon, so between wearing a brace and this horrible cold, we haven't taken any walks.  She does jump in the van and is willing to go pretty much anywhere.

If you have been wondering what special gift to give  yourself, Annie might be the ideal companion to share the new year with.  If  you think Annie might be the girl for you, please contact your placement advisor and we'll talk.
