Ginger (Sally 10-141)

Profile

I would like to introduce everyone to Sally, or Sweet Sally as I like to call her J Sally came in with 3 other Goldens from a breeder in South Dakota who is quitting the business.

Sally is a small Golden with a beautiful red coat. She is very scared though. She has not known what love is and what it is like to live in a house. She is scared of loud noises and will sometimes shy away when I want to pet her. She has some scars and some spots of thinner hair. With some love and nutrition I am hoping that her beautiful red coat will cover that up. She likes to find one corner in the house and sit there. It is her safe spot for now. But in the short time that we have had her, she is starting to come around. She will come out and see what everyone is doing and really likes to wag her tail now. We have had a couple of accidents, but that is to be expected. She is starting to go out of the house and back in on her own, at first I had to gently carry her out. She has decided that being inside is much better J

Sally will be going to the vet soon to get a final checkup and get her spay scheduled (no more puppies!). Sally is a very sweet girl and she is going to need a lot of love to really help her come around. I (and so is FD) am more than ready to give that to her J I am still getting to know Sally, so I am not quite sure what her future home will need. There will be time to learn that, and I can’t wait to share her progress with all the RAGOM fans. Keep looking for updates, and keep this sweet girl and all the others in your prayers J

This is a hard passage to write. On April 2nd, Jim, myself and our resident dog, Lucy took our beautiful girl, Ginger to help her get to the Rainbow Bridge.  Ginger was our morning wake-up call, with her nasal song and her smile. She excelled in nose snow-plowing and was the best "coach" for Lu, when Dad pitched extra innings. She taught us so very much on the tenements of love and gratitude. Ginger was a force for good. Ginger saved us. We will miss her for a very long time. 💗

Well....it's official......Jim and I are in love with our new Golden, Sally.  Now named "Ginger".   As in "Gingerbread" or "Gingercake" or 'Ginger-snap"   ....anything sweet.  We drove to Perham to pick her up from her wonderful fosters, Jessica and Brian.  So grateful to them, we will always be.  Our 3-year old Lucy brought her into our big backyard and they began to play like old friends.  Ginger is beautiful, deep red and as she runs next to our blondie, Lucy, the contrast is striking.  She is still timid, at times and has "safe spots" in our yard and in our home.  She brings out the patience and kindness and love from us.  Over and over again, Ginger engages Lucy in play ....and sometimes runs circles around her!!   Today, Ginger has been in her home for 2 weeks and 4 days.   Our daughters, Robin who works in D.C. and Emma, who goes to school in Palo Alto, CA are in constant communication with us on Ginger.  And even though they have not yet met her in person, they love her!  We cannot wait until they come home to Fargo and meet her  face to face!    Our sweet Ginger has a heart full of love  and she has changed our lives in too many ways to describe.  Thank you, Jessica and Brian ....and thank you Ragom.

Hello all!

Sally is doing quite well in our crazy household J She had her spay done about a week and a half ago, and that went very nicely! She has less itching now, and she does not even take her Benadryl anymore, she doesn’t need it!

Sally still has a ways to go though when it comes to being comfortable around people. She is still scared of loud noises, and sudden movements. Her safe spot is her kennel. We have started closing the door to our bedroom (where her kennel is) so she sits with all of us out in the living room, and that is helping a lot so she is a little more social J

Now that she is coming out of her shell a little more, we have discovered the world of chewing! Oh oh! ;) She tries to grab foster mom’s blow dryer by the cord once in awhile, but we stopped her before anything happened. She did chew up FM’s cell phone charger…don’t tell Sally this, but it gave FM a good excuse to get a new cell phone. JJ Let’s just say a new cell phone was cheaper than a new charger! Like Free! But again..don’t tell Sally… J She has also tried to get FD’s socks. So we are working on getting her to chew on her Nylabone more.

Sally is ready for her new home! What will she need?

  • A physical fence
  • No kids under 12 (I changed that from 14). I think it would be too overwhelming for her to have younger than that.
  • Another dog or 2 in the house to continue showing her the ropes.
  • And most importantly someone with patience to help her with her fear of loud noises. And to be comfortable around people.

Won’t you give this girl a chance and help her enjoy her new golden life? She is ready for her forever home. J

Hello to all!

Smiling Sally is doing pretty good! I like to call her Smiling Sally because she likes to smile. It looks like she is going to growl (or something like that) but she is actually smiling! J And it is just so darn cute! And she likes to wiggle her butt a lot. So Smiling Sally wiggle butt is her affectionate nick name in our household J

As I did not put this in Sally’s initial bio, I will now. Sally is about 4 years old. She sometimes looks slightly older because of everything she has been through.

We went to the vet last week and Sally was put on some antibiotics for her skin rash/allergies along with Benadryl for the itching. We are almost done with the antibiotics and she is itching A LOT less now. She weighed in at ONLY 49.6lbs! So we are going to be putting a little weight on. She has one tooth that has a lot of tartar on it, but the vet figures it is from poor nutrition. Now she is getting great nutrition and gets to chew on a bone once in awhile to help her teeth. Tomorrow she is getting spayed and then she will be ready for her forever home.

Sally is just starting to come out of her shell more. She still prefers to be in her kennel when she is feeling overwhelmed, and I still have to help her out the door so she goes potty. She has not had an accident in the house in over a week! What a GOOD girl!! J She loves to come back into the house though. JThe indoor life is the life for her.

She is starting to learn what toys are. She doesn’t understand the concept of it, but I will catch her playing with a ball once in awhile when she thinks no one is watching. J  She even engages some of the other dogs in playing now J

What will Sally need in her forever home?

  • A physical fence (since she is a puppy mill dog)
  • I would say kids 14 and older.
  • People who understand that she still needs more time before she will be a “regular” dog. It may take awhile before she understands what playing fetch is. Sally needs extra loving J
  • Another dog to show her the ropes of what being a “regular” dog is like.

In the photos you will notice Sally with FD and the other 2 golden girls (she is in the green collar) and Sally in her safe place, her kennel. Isn’t she adorable?? J I love Miss Sally and I just know anyone would! Contact your placement advisor today if you think Sally is the girl for you.
