Just a summer update on Ace/Acer. He's doing great, loves to be outside with us in the garden. Wants to be by his people, and fur sister Ruby. Our daughter got a rescue dog last fall named Barley and they get along great too. Thank you RAGOM for letting us be Ace's family. We can't imagine our life without him.

It was with very sad hearts we helped Ace cross the rainbow bridge today. Last Monday he went in for tests and it was determined his heart wasn't working right. He spent 5 days on meds. When he woke up this morning, he seemed his happy self, ready to greet the day. After breakfast he had an attack of some kind...either stroke or heart...and we rushed him to the vet. We knew it was Ace's time to go. We want to thank his foster mom Rona in Sioux Falls and the wonderful staff at Pine Ridge Vet in MN for all you did for Ace.
He was much loved and will be terribly missed by everyone. He had the most gentle soul I've ever met. We brought him home to be buried on our property where he loved to lie in the grass and watch the horses next door. God speed Ace.. until we see you again. All our love

Have been meaning to update Ragom on Ace for a long time.. Just got around to it! This picture was taken before the snow was flying and about the time we celebrated Ace's one year adoption with us. He is the sweetest dog we've ever encountered. Happy to be around his people, walk in the yard, and have his comfy bed to sleep in. Ill never be able to thank Ragom, or his foster mom enough for re-homing this angel to us. I'll try to do better at updating in the future!

Our magnificent Golden boy has been adopted, and he will be in his final home with another pal, a Golden Ruby who is 5 years old and a wonderful couple who drove many miles to come and meet Acer and take him home. It must be said that we will really miss this tall boy—about as awesome and wonderful as they come. Acer has a huge fenced in acreage(s) to run and snoop around in which he totally loves. He has a new mom who is home 24/7 and a kitty pal to boot. This family came so prepared for him and are helping him make his final adjustment home a very smooth one indeed. Here is an outstanding senior, who many do not look at or consider, that went to one beautiful lovely home and who truly appreciates what these seniors offer. What an outstanding Golden boy and family. Things happen in life which cannot be helped sometimes - RAGOM will step up to help these Goldens for many different reasons, and find the best homes for them we can. It is a process, and one well worth it for a RAGOM rescue dog. All that matters are the dogs. We struck gold in being able to foster such a wonderful loving boy who brought us so much joy – and those baby browns, what can I say? Make you melt! Then, you get to talk to and meet such incredible families and their stories too and then see the magic happen. How wonderful is that? What a super circle! Acer is going to have quite the Golden life and we helped a family in need and this makes it all so worth it. We and Acers want to thank Jake for making some new toys, food and other things available out of his own generosity. Jake, thank you so much and I know the big Golden heart you have…
We miss you Mr. Ace and we will always adore you. To the new family: Rock on, he is doing so great! Everyone struck gold on this………. What an outstanding adoption!
***PLEASE be sure to follow our seniors and special needs dog on our RAGOM site, you just never know how wonderful it can be!

Our Ace (I call him Acer) is doing outstanding and has adjusted incredibly well to a big change in his 10 year life here at our home now. It is just totally amazing how these dogs can pick up and move on, accept, learn and hopefully really enjoy yet another new home with all it’s person(s), pet(s), rule(s) and areas. So MUCH we can learn from these canines and how they truly do adjust and do it a day at a time, perhaps not really looking back much? This is one of the best goldens we have ever met and had the privilege to foster.
Things happen in everyone’s lives for a wide variety of reasons, and things sometimes have to change and it is thanks to rescue(s) [RAGOM!] make some of these non-expecting transitions in some families for these dogs, much, much easier and smooth. This case is a win-win in that, we did assure where he came from he would be WELL taken care of, which he is, and we (fosters) get the honor of fostering/lovin’ some of these outstanding golden(s) and then, get to meet and find yet the perfect final journey ‘home’ for them. This ‘rescue’ circle, if we try, can be a good one. Ace certainly will have a long, loving life wherever he lands (can NOT love this boy!) and we are very thankful to be a part of that final step.
Now, on to how HE is doing: since last update we have found a good ‘recipe’ for him for his older hips. We are on Tramadol and small dose of Deramaxx, which together, has made a HUGE difference for Ace. He is much more comfortable, gets up and down on the tile floor, wood floor, carpet, etc. 150% better now. Also the everyday walks, play and exercise have made a huge difference. Mix all up and bingo, we are doing super! Just needed a little boost now and I think he will eventually be able to wean off some of the meds with all the walks and play. Amazing what regular exercise/play and love can do. He does need a boost in the butt into the truck.
We just cannot say enough wonderful things about Acer, his disposition, physical beauty and super manners with all of us and the pets is just outstanding. He is a joy to walk and really loves to be outside. LOVES the fenced yard. It can be odd walking with 3 in that: one of my dogs (Maggie) is always on the right, one is always on the left (corgi Eddie-short dog) and Acer prefers left side too. This is funny in that when I walk the “boys”, Acer/Eddie, my poor corgi gets his face ‘swept’ by Ace’s tail the entire way! So NO flies on that little boy! We can mix and match anyone for walks and he loves rides in the truck with the window down and the breeze in his face. Ace sleeps sound all night, (snores the golden sounds sometimes!) and loves his big huge doggie bed. Just cannot say enough great things about him!

Just feel need to write another note on this great boy. He is so wonderful. He has already‘graduated’ to free roam of the house with the other 2 dogs. Everything goes very well. We still leave his crate up as he will smell in there (some of his older things are in there) and there is a dog bed in there he likes. We think the tramadol he is on is beginning to help him. Put into a piece of cheese and down the hatch. I think perhaps he had ‘hunted” maybe? If not, he sure knows commands, fetch, wait, sit, bring back….incredible. If I ask him “where is the bird?” he looks all over the place, so cute! He will find his frisbee toy which he likes (the nylon type) and boy does he LOVE to play with that! He saw a squirrel and the chase was on….just until the squirrel got to the corner of the yard and in the tree, wasn’t even a close call but he had fun! What matters.
My husband and I go to work early (6am) and I only work part-time. He LOVES his human home and I think he would really enjoy having someone around more during the day. (typical golden). He is a calm boy and listens very well. He is fine with meeting other dogs and people, just great. He is ‘mindful’ of our crew and all get along. He could be a single boy or with others. Again the more someone is home to ‘spoil’ him, would be great. He loves it when we are all outside in the yard doing things….rolls, smells, play, etc. We have had such a beautiful autumn too and his coat just glistens in the sun. That face just makes you melt! I have only heard him bark 2X and that was when husband came home from work and he didn’t hear him right away, and did just what a dog should do! Just won lone ‘bark’ to say hi. He follows me around the house and when I get up and down too many thousands of times, he just lays and waits, getting THAT figured out! Does not beg for any food while we eat and a perfect gentleman. Loves to lay in chilly night by fireplace and by us. Our walks go wonderful and he really enjoys them too.
