Beautiful Joe 15-226

Profile

Please welcome Joe 15-226 to RAGOM. Joe was a stray brought into a shelter in northwest Minnesota. He was very stressed in the shelter environment. Little else was know about Joe. He was surrendered to RAGOM in hopes that a foster home would be a much better place for him.

Joe managed to catch a ride on another transport and I picked him up in St Cloud. Joe seemed very at ease after coming from a stressful situation. Joe rode nice in the truck and did very well meeting my resident girl Belle and my 2 cats. I had to "doctor" his food to get him to eat it. Not unusual for the first few meals.

That first night, I brought him in the bedroom and closed the door. He panted for a few minutes and then went to sleep. He was quiet all night! The next morning we were up early to get Joe to the vet for a RAGOM wellness check and to be updated on all vaccines, and Frontline. Joe tested negative for Heartworm, Lyme and several other diseases. His only somewhat bad thing was that he has hookworms and tapeworm. The worms are easily treatable with 3 doses over 6 weeks. He will have to be tested for the worms again after the treatments are done. Other than the worms, Joe is a very healthy boy.

Joe was given free roam of the house the second night after passing a 2 hour alone test that evening when we went out for supper. Joe hasn't had any "accidents" in the house. He scratches on the door to come in. I think it is safe to say that Joe lived in a house at least some of his previous life. Joe's teeth are very worn for a dog his age. I'm guessing he was kept in a outdoor chain link kennel that he chewed on. Joe has not chewed on anything inappropriate since he has been here. Joe appears to be a very well behaved boy!

Joe has been adopted into his forever home where the resident girl, Belle 14-056, has kidney failure and not a lot of time left before she crosses the Rainbow Bridge. Joe's personality seems to be a good match for the household.

Watch for updates in "Happy Endings."

Head Resident Joe here reporting,

Since my last update, Surf 16-020 has settled in. He thinks he is in charge, but I know better. We had 2 new foster dogs come. Braden 16-044 is a perm foster and DeClan 16-046 is a temp. They both came from a hoarding situation. They are extremely underweight and both are a bit scared of all the recent changes in their lives. As resident, it is my job to welcome the new dogs and try to show them that everything will be alright. Foster brother Surf was very nice to them and gave them lots of space. DeClan left after a few days but came back a couple weeks later while his foster mom traveled.

Braden is slower to feel comfortable in some parts of the house. He does now sleep in bed with Dad and Surf. I guard the upstairs by sleeping on the landing of the stairs where resident Belle used to sleep.

A couple of weeks ago we went on a trip to the vet's office. Braden needed a vaccine booster and we all needed Heartguard and Frontline. I had to be weighed to be sure to get the right sized dose. That was not good. I had put on over 12 lbs since my last weigh in. I'm over 70 lbs now. I was around 50 lbs when I came into RAGOM. Dad said he thought I was getting wider and had cut back on my food. I'm now on "diet" food and only 1 treat per day. We are now walking twice a day and going further. Dad says I will look and feel better when I get back to my ideal weight. I miss getting fed more and now get vocal at meal time.

Thanks for checking in on me, Joe 15-226

Hi, Joe here again,

Since my last update, My sister Belle crossed the Rainbow Bridge. I went with Dad and friend Judy to the vet to help Belle cross.  I felt sad that Belle is gone but tried to comfort Dad and Judy.  Dad gave me lots of extra hugs and pets in the following days. I'm now the Head Resident Dog.

We had Rusty 04-374 come to visit for a day while his foster mom went to a birthday party.  I like Rusty. He's a very nice boy. He tried to get me to play by licking my ears and pecking me with his nose. I didn't get the signal and don't really know how to play.

Last Wednesday we got a new foster dog. His name is Surf 16-020. He's a big Yellow Lab. We get along good other than when he paws me to try to get me to play. I don't really know how to play. Maybe I will learn how some day. More training for my job.

The neighbor dog, Moe came to stay for a few days while his mom went for his grandmom's funeral. Even though Moe is small , we all got along fine.  Dad says there is something about having 3 dogs that makes everything into a "event". I'm not sure what that means.  We went back to "2 dog calm" after Moe went home.  We stop and visit moe some times when we go on walks.

Speaking of walks, for a while we were only doing short walks and some times no walks because Dad has a pinched nerve in his back that was giving him lots of pain.  That has gotten better and we are back to 2 1/2 mile walks. Surf needs some training about walks. Dad wishes Surf would watch me more. I set a very good example , but Surf doesn't pay attention.

Dad told me today that we may go to a couple upcoming Meet & Greet events. One in Coon Rapids and another in Shakopee. I hope it works out. I like to meet lots of people. I usually get lots of treats too!

That's about all for now. Thanks for checking in on me. Joe 15-226

Hi, Joe here again.

Since my last update, my foster brother Diver was adopted. I wanted to stow away in his adopter's car but Dad kept pretty close eyes on me. I'm very happy for Diver. From what we hear, Diver is settling in to his new home pretty quickly. The bad part is that I miss him and am a little lonely without him. Dad says there will be more foster brothers and sisters for me and that I should enjoy the break.

Before Diver left, Diver and I went to another Meet & Greet. This one was in Edina. We got to meet lots of people and charmed many of them.

In other news, My sister Belle is getting weaker. She sometimes won't eat her food. Dad thinks she may only have 1 or 2 days left before she crosses the Rainbow Bridge. Dad spends a lot of time petting and hugging her. We will both miss Belle very much when she is gone. Lots of sad days ahead.

I wish I had more happy news to report, but this is about it for now. Thanks for checking in on me. Joe 15-226.

Hi, Joe here,

My new Dad said I really need to do this update. I am now an "Assistant  Resident Dog"   That means that I help foster dogs until they find a new home. My sister Belle 14-068 is the "Head Resident Dog". She has been helpful training me to take over her job. Belle has kidney failure and will be crossing the Rainbow Bridge some time soon.

There have been several dogs come and go during my training. They are: Spice, Shadow, Lobo and Zoey. Sadly Lobo crossed the Rainbow Bridge shortly after he left here. My current foster brother is Diver 14-220. Dad gives me lots of praise for being very good with the foster dogs.  Dad says that he thinks I am ready for Belle's job when she crosses the Bridge.

I hope you will check in on me in the future. I should have lots of dog stories to tell. I may also be at some more Meet & Greets. I did my first one in Shakopee on 1/9. Thanks for checking in on me. There is much more to come. Joe 15-226
