What can we say about Miss Claire? She is approximately 5 1/2 yrs. old, and 78 lbs. of Golden love. She has a white chest, underbelly and four white paws. She is a mix but looks like she may have a small part of Aussie. She has the golden swagger, body and tail, definitely the nudge and loves her people. She wants a lot of attention.

Claire came from a loving home but needed more time and attention than her owner was able to give. Job responsibilities changed and the boys that had spent the summer with her were going back to college. Claire showed her displeasure by digging and soiling in the house.

She has been well cared for, up to date on all shots and preventatives. The Vet recommended a weight loss of around 10-12 lbs, she's a little overweight, so we are taking our daily walks. FM can use that too!

Claire has been with me for 10 days and here is what I have learned.

Soiling issue: She has not had an accident in my house since I've had her. Granted, I work from home and I am able to let her out any time (even though she doesn't seem to need to very often).

Other dogs: She got along with a Yorkie I was dog sitting. They had a yip fest and once Claire saw the Yorkie showed no fear there was no further issue. She tolerates my sister's 10 mo. old Lab, he plays very rough. She at first intimidated my RD, Cooper the English Setter, and they seem to get along now, still working on that. Coop is very timid and Claire sees this. Slow introductions would work best.

Anxiety/storms: She gets worked up during a storm and rain, no matter how small. We had our first storm last night and I was awake with a very nervous dog in my bed and curled around my head, lots of panting. We tried her kennel and she didn't tolerate that well. We did use her thunder shirt, that may have helped some.

Walks/tie out: I don't have a physical fence, so I tie her out for periods of time and she does fine. She is very strong and pulls at the start of our walks but calms down pretty quick and walks fine.

Behavior/training: she knows 'sit', 'stay' 'back', 'shake' and lays down on command. Treats help, of course!

She is getting settled in. The first 3-4 days she was very nervous and afraid. She has started playing with her toys! She is a beautiful girl, very loving, and has all the Golden qualities! She loves to lay on the couch with you, head on your lap and wants to get in your bed to be close to you. Sometimes she doesn't stay long, and....She sleeps through the night, has since day one.

I've let her have the run of the house on several occasions for over 2 hours and she's been the perfect lady, no issues, and she had the company of the little Yorkie! She barks rarely and stops when told to.

Here are some pictures of Claire. She is quite a beauty. I will send out another update next week. If you think you could give Claire lots of attention and have patience with the storm issue, she would make a wonderful companion.

Updates

Time for an update on Clare! She's been doing so well and is such a good girl, I guess I just have to reiterate on what's already been written about her.

We're taking our walks pretty regularly and I have noticed the more comfortable she is with me, the better she is at meeting other dogs. She's still curious and pulls like a train, but shows no agressive behavior. I just keep a tighter, closer hold and it's just easier to control her that way. She really likes people, pets and attention.
We did have an incident with the latest storm. I wasn't aware that our rain was going to include thunder and lightening so I left for a few hours and hurried back when I saw it was starting to thunder, and then the lightening. Clare had tried to get 'out', so my front door took a beating and the trim on one side was torn off. It was my fault, I know she has storm anxiety, and should really not be left alone, and frankly kenneling doesn't work either. I feel she could hurt herself.
So, my suggestion for Clare's new family would ideally include one or more 'stay at home' parents because she is nervous during storms, but if she has someone with her she is easy to handle, she just wants to be close. As for the pulling, she may benefit from an obedience class. It seems to help when they are able to be around other dogs exhibiting good behavior, but it is totally controllable.
I have never had a perfect dog. There are counter surfers, loners, garbage divers, barkers, diggers and the list goes on and on. Clare has so very few issues. If her new family can love her during storms, and control her for the very few times she pulls - hard - she can be a very sweet and easy to take care of companion.

"Hugs from Sandie." -Karin S

I've been watching Clare for over 6 weeks now so I'm adding more information about her.

* She is a female, in every way! She can be moody, independent, bossy and stubborn. None of these are an issue, it's just her personality and I get a kick out of her, every day. She is also very loving and she has the nudge/paw action down pat.

* Walks are a 'little' challenging because of her stubbornness, she wants to smell EVERYTHING and she can take off when she sees a 'critter' so I can see why the SO included a leash with a second loop closer to her collar. All in all she walks pretty well, just gotta keep her moving.

* She has what I call the 'Clare look', and this is where her moody shows. It says 'are you kidding me?'....I see it when I use phrases like 'heel Clare'...'let's go outside Clare'...'move over Clare'. You get the idea. :)

* Even though I don't have a physical fence, she is content on a lead for a bit, but really loves hanging out in the house. I work in a separate little building, my office, and when I ask her if she wants to go hang out with me, if she even acknowledges me, I get the 'look'.

* She's not a runner and doesn't blow past you when you open the door. She's just not that interested! She knows when she's got it good. ;)

Clare has shown no agression towards me, nor any of my guests. She just loves attention. She is very sweet, mellow, beautiful, and will make a great gal pal. She enjoys the role of bossy Mama, and is right there when it's time to go to bed. Queen Clare.

She's really showing her true self, and I couldn't enjoy her company more. Did I mention she likes lettuce treats with oil and vinegar dressing? Here are a few updated pictures.

P.S. Thanks Sandi for the hugs and 'paw', she's getting extras today!

Hello folks! I'm writing my own update as my FM thought it would be good to hear from me. I started this last week but I'm pretty laid back so pardon the delay, I've been dragging my paws. Well here goes!

I've been with my FM for almost 4 weeks now so I'm real comfortable with my new Foster family. Cooper is my roommate but he's busy chasing birds and squirrels so we don't play at all. He's not real social, but Charlie the puppy next door tears over to see me all the time. He can be obnoxious so after a while I just ignore him and he goes away. I do like to play from time to time though.

I've been on a controlled amount of food diet, and walk a lot with my FM so hopefully I have lost a few pounds. I never have accidents in the house and love to cuddle with FM and Mya, her 9 year old granddaughter.

FM left me two times this weekend for over 6 hrs (gadder) and I just laid around and slept on her bed, pretty much wherever I wanted. She told me what a good girl I was when she got home.

We had a nasty storm last week, so I shared the bed with FM. I wore my thunder shirt, but The next day FM looked pretty tired. I think I may have kept her awake. Oops. I really do NOT like storms so I need a forever family that has a lot of patience with me. I don't mind trains though, they go by a lot while we're walking the trail. Other than that I am quite a lady (that's what I hear). FM has had several visitors and they all pet me and say what a good girl I am.

Not much more to tell, it's been so hot here lately....you know - dog days of summer,

Here are a few recent pictures. .

I'm really settling in (this is my settling in picture)

Ready for my closeup?
