Rubbel has had a pretty exciting week! Rubbel is getting to know us and us him. He has not been with us too long but, this pup has made some amazing transformations in such a short time.
1st , we went on a walk on some wooded trails. Rubbel did extremely well and did not pull on his leash. He jumped around like a pup and was very curious of new things which is amazing progress for this shy little guy. Rubbel made sure to keep an eye on his Foster Family including Resident Dog and would come closer to us if there was something in the woods that he was unsure of. Rubbel is starting to look to his Foster Family for security! Yaaaa that is a HUGE step for him.
2nd, Rubbel had his first vet appointment where he was an extremely well behaved pup! He is very treat driven and was excited to receive so many treats while getting vaccinated and micro chipped. We placed a nice fluffy blanket on the table and Rubbel just relaxed and enjoyed his blanket and treats. Rubbel is in excellent health but, being treated for Hookworm. The vet thought very highly of Rubbel and said that he is doing amazing and was impressed on how he was (relaxed, eating treats, as she examined him). This was wonderful news to hear! Rubbel is going to steal someone’s heart and with constant dedication helping him overcome his insecurities he will make an excellent pup for a family!
3rd, This hot weather was getting to all of us so we decided to go to the lake! I knew that Rubbel loved the kiddy pool but he LOVES the lake! He ran right into the lake with no hesitation at all! I couldn’t believe it. He loves to swim and was swimming circles around the Resident Dog! At first Rubbel was hesitant about the dock but, on his own, he overcame that obstacle and was happily running on it. With a little help getting onto the Pontoon Rubbel found a comfortable spot with the Resident dog, relaxed, and we went for a ride. On the way home Rubbel was exhausted and slept without making a peep.
Rubbel has made a lot of progress and continues to grow and trust people around him. Rubbel has difficulty coming into a house or doors. He takes his time, and will come in to get a nice treat and love but, it will need continuous work. Rubbel likes to be by the kids and will follow them around in the house. They play hide and seek with him where he finds them for a treat! This provides Rubble with socialization and becoming more secure in the house. Rubbel has his “safe spots” in the house where he goes to be left alone or just to understand what is going on around him. At first, he liked to spend most of his time in the kennel “safe spot” or behind the couch “safe spot” where he could watch us. Now, he rarely goes behind the couch! The kennel is covered up like a den and Rubbel goes there at night when he is tired. Wahoo!!!!!!! another HUGE step of progress.
Rubbel knows his name and will come about 3 feet from me when I call him. This is progress as before he would not come close to me . This morning Rubbel came up to me (3 feet) I held out my hand and he came right up to me, allowed me to pet him, and took a treat. Yes Progress and it is only going to get better!
A family needs to be dedicated, patient, and truly understand that it takes tons of patience and time to gain the trust/security of a pup like Rubbel! We are making HUGE strides however, if you are interested in this pup you need to make sure to dedicate time to his growth and trust in you. Trust cannot be forced! Rubbel is amazing and has made exemplary progress. It is only the beginning and his forever home will have to continue this journey with Rubbel! This will take dedication, work, treats, and tons love. Rubbel is well on his way to being that perfect companion.
