Welcome to RAGOM little pup. Niall (pronounced NYE al) is one of six puppies born June 7 to RAGOM dog Maggie 15-119. Maggie is a mini Labradoodle. Father is unknown but may well be another Labradoodle. The pups look like little lambs with wooly coats and cute little ears.

Niall is the largest puppy in the litter and firstborn. He is still very young and his eyes haven’t opened yet.

Niall, whose name means ‘cloud,’ has a beautiful white curly coat which is likely to be non-shedding. Labradoodles were originally bred to be service dogs for people with allergies. Breeding Poodles with Labs provided a different coat but still a very intelligent dog who wants to please.

Keep checking back as Niall grows each week. He won’t be available for adoption until he is at least 8 weeks old and able to leave his littermates. He will also need to be neutered. If a puppy is what you are looking for, check with your placement advisor. If Niall is anything like momma, Maggie 15-119, he will be a wonderful dog.

Updates

Sunday, August 9, 2015

Niall is nine weeks old tomorrow and is on his way to his new home in Austin MN where he will join Susan and her dog, Baxter and cat. Niall weighed 8.8 pounds at his checkup and neuter surgery this week. He’s such a nice snuggler his Foster Mom will miss him. His mom, Maggie will also be missing him and all the other puppies as they leave for their new homes.

Sorry for the long gaps on updates but caring for six puppies leaves little time for Foster Mom sitting at the computer. However, she has been taking lots of pictures and videos so she can remember this wonderful experience.

Niall weighed 6.2 pounds at his six week checkup and is scheduled to be neutered next week. Then he’s on to his new home in Minnesota. Life in the meantime is spent playing with his littermates and meeting lots of new people so he can be comfortable with new situations. The backyard is now open for puppy exploring. When it’s not too hot the pups are spending lots of time out there digging, chewing up plants, wrestling and playing tug of war with various toys or remnants of stuffed animals pulled apart by the big dogs.

Niall used to be the feisty one but now he’s coming to Foster Mom for petting and being held a lot. He’s got a smile on his curly face and reminds me of Maggie, his mom. He’s revealing a whole other side of his personality—a real sweetheart of a pup and a bit of a mama’s boy. Niall has the only really curly poodle like coat in all the litter. His vet expects he will be 50-60 pounds when he’s full grown. That’s all for now. Keeping busy sleeping, eating and playing. And, yes,  growing.

Niall is now four weeks old. He and his siblings traveled to Wisconsin to a lake cottage for a week. He stopped along the way to meet with his new mom in Austin MN.  He will have to wait awhile before joining his new dog brother, Baxter. He is eating ground up puppy food soaked in milk now along with his mother’s milk. Niall growls and is the most vocal but by no means the only vocal pup. He is playing with toys and chewing on or wrestling with his littermates. They have more room to wrestle and explore now that they are bigger and out of their small pen. Niall had his first bath this weekend. Lots of first for the puppies.

His adoption is weeks away since he needs to spend more time with Maggie, his mom and his littermates.
