Profile

In addition to LOVE this dog has the following requirements:
Entered Foster Care Fence Kid Friendly Another Dog Cat Friendly
February 19, 15 optional  yes  optional  yes
This is the most recent information available; however, it may change as we learn more about the dog.

Bella is a 2 year old Golden Retriever Lab mix fostered in Ames Iowa. Bella arrived to her new foster home spayed and fully UTD on all shots.  Thanks Jeanine!   She is a healthy, happy, beautiful dog who lives up to her name.

Bella loves everyone she meets. She is definitely a people person. She enjoys helping the kids at night with their homework, enthusiastically greeting visitors and snoozing on her bed in our room at night. While she is crate trained she has enjoyed free roam in our home even while we are at work with no issues. She loves playing with her toys, sitting patiently for treats and would not mind crawling into your lap for pets. She is excellent with kids but is still working on her manners including using her paws to ask for more pets so she might need some gentle reminders with younger children.

We have seen no resource guarding with either food or toys. Bella plays gently with our RD who has a sore back leg.  She is generally uninterested in our two cats unless it is to give them a passing kiss.  When Bella first arrived we joked that she pulled so hard on a leash we wondered if she aspired to be an Alaskan sled dog. We switched her to an Easy Walk Harness and the change was instant. Today she enjoyed a two mile jog with FD although I think she would also be content with a nice walk each day.

When Bell first met our RD with whom she is now great friends with there was an initial snarl that dissipated in minutes. With that in mind we will be working on her greeting of other dogs on walks in the next few days to determine if that was just a fluke since she is so gentle otherwise. Other than that momentary issue we have had no problems with her.

All in all we have been thrilled with how easily Bella has fit into our home. She is a lovely houseguest. If you think Bella would be right for your family let your placement advisor know.

Bella continues to be an absolute sweetie to have in our home. She is somewhat petite at a healthy 65 pounds and has a beautiful golden coat. She loves anything to do with people; car rides, watching tv, walks and playing fetch although she is working on the return part. She is a very quiet dog. I don't think I have ever heard her bark. Our RD is a Great Pyr who joyfully barks at the wind blowing.  Bella will watch with interest at whatever is going on but doesn't bark herself.

Bella is fully house trained, sleeps on her bed the entire night and has yet to chew on anything except treats.  Although she will carry around stray socks. We know very little about her life before RAGOM but she is a well adjusted happy dog. She is however a total Velcro dog. She will follow you all over the house and lay beside you wherever you are!  She would prefer your lap but is content at your feet.

Bella is loving her daily walks. It was clear from her initial pulling that leash walking was new to her. She does have some initial low growling when meeting other dogs on a leash but it is accompanied at the same time with a lot of tail wagging. It is my belief that she growls out of nervousness but her happy tail wagging self overcomes her anxiety and within a minute or so all is well.

While Bella enjoys playing she is actually a very mellow pup for her age.  So if you want to skip the puppy stage and have a young well behaved dog Bella just might be perfect for you.
