Hello Ragom, this handsome boy is Boone. Boone is a 5 year old, 73 lb. handsome Golden/ Lab mix. Boone is a very healthy boy who gets around extremely well on 3 legs, missing his rear right leg from being hit by a car. You would never know it, though, when watching him get around, he doesn't miss a beat! He is being neutered this week and is up to date on his shots.

Boone came to Ragom from a family with kids. Boone was primarily an outdoor dog recently, due to an allergy issue with the youngest child. Boone is really, really sweet and gets so excited whenever he has the chance to visit with kids, adults and other dogs. He is a bundle of tail-wagging love and enthusiasm! While he was an outdoor dog, he is fully house-trained. Boone knows a couple of commands; sit, lay or go lay down. He is extremely eager to please and learns quickly. We will continue to work on sharpening up his manners, a bit.

Boone loves people and will be a great addition to a new family. It you have any questions about Boone, please talk to your Placement advisor. In the meantime, I will soak up as much love from this boy as I can! He sure makes it easy to love and be loved by him!

From his forever family, Boone's needs are:

Fence-YES, a sturdy one, he was allowed to roam the neighborhood prior to Ragom and lost his leg in a car accident.

Kids- Yes, Boone would love his own kids or visiting kids.

Another Dog- While Boone would love another dog to play with, he does not need one.

We've fostered quite a few dogs over the course of the last year and a half, and it's sometimes tough to keep track of all of the dogs who we've had in and out of our home over that time, but sometimes a foster dog will become so special that he or she will leave a lasting impression and will forever have a place in your heart. That is how we would describe Boone. He was an extremely special dog, and we love him tremendously. We contemplated keeping him in our home forever, but if we adopted him, we knew it would probably end our ability to foster for quite some time--and we know that there are so many more dogs who need to come into RAGOM, that we didn't want to make that decision too soon. We had said that if the absolutely perfect family came along, we would know. Well, that's exactly what happened. We met the "S" family on Sunday, and Boone stole their hearts about as quickly as he stole ours. We knew right away that this is the family in which Boone belonged: with a little 4-legged Chihuahua brother, 2 feline siblings, a little 2-legged sister, and a doting mom and dad who will keep him active and give him so much love. We are also so excited that Boone will only live about 30 minutes away from us, and we hope to see him every once in a while :-).

I received the picture below less than 3 hours after Boone arrived home with his family last night. I think it's safe to say he's pretty relaxed, well-loved member of his family. Thank you so much to the RAGOM fosters and volunteers who helped Boone along his journey, and to his surrendering owners who made such a tough decision when you surrendered him to RAGOM.

Thanks to all of you, Boone is ready to spend the rest of his days as an official member of the "S" family!

Hello, Boone fans! Sorry for the little delay on his update; Boone had a small tooth extracted, so we decided to see how he bounced back from that before updating his page. Good news--he literally acted like there was no issue whatsoever. He was back to his normal self within hours of his extraction, and he seems to be a little happier now that the pesky broken tooth is out of there.

Otherwise, there isn't much more going on in the life of Boone. We walk all the time, and in our neighborhood, we have LOTS of children. Boone loves that, because he adores kids. There is a 1-year-old little girl down the road who loves to pet him and Boone just eats it up. He's such a great dog, and we love him tremendously! His fur is incredibly soft, and his personality is so sweet and gentle. He's an active dog, but he settles very nicely inside the house. We consider ourselves very lucky to be his fosters! He's one of the easiest fosters we've ever had, and I'd say even our resident agrees. They get along very well, and he tolerates a lot of her "go, go, go" energy.

Boone is a wonderful dog who would love to meet his forever family. If that's you, please contact your placement advisor. I promise, you won't be disappointed!

Hello all! Boone has some news that's important for his followers to know! He has moved to Bondurant, Iowa to a new foster home! He sends a huge thank you to his first fosters, Tracey and Chan, for all of their help and love!

Boone has been with us for a week now, and he is completely adjusted to life in our home. He is truly such a wonderful dog. He is full of love and kisses, and he gets around swimmingly with his three legs! We have a two story house with a walkout basement, so he's had to navigate multiple flights of stairs on a regular basis, and he has no problems doing that. He seems to not be affected, at all, by the fact that he has 3 legs instead of 4. In fact, we went hiking today and he was a champ! He hiked up and down trails and swam in the lake very well! Boone has been doing very well on walks also. He pulls a bit, so we've been using a Gentle Leader, and he walks very well using that.

Simply put, Boone loves, loves, LOVES human attention. He would sit right in your lap at all times if you'd let him. He is a wonderful companion and is almost always the happiest dog in the room. He enjoys the company of other dogs, and he and our 2-year-old resident play frequently. He has had no issues with other dogs at all, and he is reportedly cat friendly (though we haven't tested him yet). He would also make a wonderful only dog, as he doesn't require the company of other dog. Boone also loves kids. He is gentle with them, and he seems to enjoy their company. He can be kind of rambunctious when he gets excited, so he may knock small children down if he gets really excited, but he does truly love all children.

In terms of a fence, here's what I will say: it's preferred that Boone have a fence, but it's not required simply due to the fact that if you were committed to taking Boone out on a leash, he'd be just fine. However, he did lose his leg after being hit by a car when he was free-roaming around outside, so boundary training may not happen for a long time, if ever. Therefore, while a fence is preferred, it's not required as long as you'd be able to explain how you plan to keep Boone safe from his roaming tendencies :-).

Lastly, Boone is currently left alone (with our resident dog) at our house with free roam of the lower level for 8-9 hours at a time. He has no issues with this and would do fine in a home where his owner(s) work a full work day.

Boone would make a great companion for almost anyone. He's a wonderful dog who is just waiting for his forever family to come along and love him.

If that's you, let your placement adviser know!

Boone made it through surgery and is doing really well! He is the sweetest boy, so obedient and incredibly loving! He does fine being left at home for a while, so he really has no issues. He is still working on his manners, but making great progress! This is one fabulous dog!!
