This is the most recent information available; however, it may change as we learn more about the dog.

Here is Emma, a beautiful blonde purebred golden retriever.   Emma is about 8 years old and as you can see, has some ‘frosting’ on her face.  She weighs 75#. Emma is a gentle girl. She is in good health. Emma will get spayed this week. Emma came into Ragom with another dog she lived with who was about 4 (golden) and was fine with children. Emma has a fantastic personality. When she came into our home for foster care, she met out 2 residents (a corgi (4) and a border collie mix (13) and 3 cats) with zero problems.  Emma loves LOVES her humans, and would love to follow you most everywhere, lean into you, just to be where you are.  She is appropriately curious of different rooms, smells, foods, etc. She does fine getting in/out of a  vehicle.  She ‘reluctantly’ goes in her large crate, which we have located in our large kitchen with the family room/tv area right off for her to view everything and for us to help her adjust in foster care but does just fine in the crate.  She has very good manners.  Takes treats gently; she is totally housetrained.  We have not heard her bark yet.  She has that ‘golden groan’ when she is happy and content J  Loves to be pet and by your side. She is very submissive and will roll over on her back for loves and pets.  Emma also enjoys the snow and for sure makes her own snow angels and really like the outdoors. She enjoys our fenced in backyard checking out all the smells, trees, and ability to just be out and wondering in the yard. Emma has such magic to her personality and can ‘swoon’ you very easily.  Loves her dog bed(s) we have around and is quiet all night sleeping.  Are you looking for a beautiful golden girl who loves her human and wants to spend all day and night with you? Be by you when you do laundry, clean, or sit and watch tv? One beautiful golden girl inside and out.

Please post this memorial for our Emma....she was our beautiful joy for a year and a half....bringing us strength and healing after losing our Toby in December 2014 (Toby was a 2002 Ragom boy - FKA: Tanner)

We were blessed to be chosen as Emma's new family by Rona D. in early 2015 just after Emma was rescued with a group of other dogs from a location where they have been left in a shed in the cold. Having business to do in Sioux Falls made meeting Emma an option for us and at the first visit it was love at first sight. We never hesitated to adopt a senior as we had just spent a few years living with an older golden (Toby who I adopted from Ragom when he was 2 (in 2002). Emma was an angel each day with us.

After she was spayed (she may have been a farm breeder and had recently had puppies based on her condition), we were able to bring her home from Sioux Falls. She was hesitant in the long ride home to Minneapolis but once here she settled into a calm sleep surrounded by her new stuffed toys. Initially she carried every stuffed animal in the house to bed with her upstairs at night (one by one) and then back down each night. She was so adorable we thought she must have been quite a wonderful mother. After a while her affection for stuffed toys faded and her prime affection was her people. Emma LOVED everyone! She was soft and gentle and wiggled up to everyone she met and wanted to make sure we were always okay. My 86 year old mom fell head over heals in love with Emma and became her babysitter when ever we went to work so that Emma would never have to be away from "her" people.

Three months after adopting Emma we noticed her right leg going lame and we took her to the U for many tests - all of which she endured with a gentle accepting patience but nothing was found....more tests and still nothing in the subsequent months. She never feared the Vet office and again loved everyone she met and won hearts with everyone. Eight months later we noticed a mass had developed on the leg and we raced her to the U again - this time to learn she had a fast growing soft tissue sarcoma that was inoperable because of how it had grown. That was Thanksgiving 2015. In 2014 we had gone through the holidays losing our cherished Toby to cancer and could not believe it was happening again. Emma remained brave though stoic. The wonderful doctors at the U gave her little time but we opted to take her home and love her up until she told us it was time. We were blessed with a brief miracle.... she went into remission that lasted 7 months and had an incredible winter laying and bouncing in the snow and being able to eat whatever she wanted! Our Emma continued to bring love and support when my mom had a heart attack that 2015 Christmas. Emma somehow knew she had to be strong to help my mom get better and she did and she would still spend a couple days each week with mom so that Emma knew she was okay and so mom knew Emma was okay! The two senior ladies loved each other's company.

On July 19, 2016 - Emma let us know it was time for her to cross the rainbow bridge. She left this world as softly as the love she shared. She is my angel Emma and likely romping with my big angel Toby. She was a blessing beyond words for the short time she shared our world and I can never thank Rona Dornbush and Emma for picking us as her family.

Attached are a couple of pictures from that November and January after we learned of her cancer....she was a beauty! God Bless you my Angel Emma!

Emma had a grand day today.  She met and really loved her new adoptive family.  K and B are in love and so is Miss Emma! This lovely rescue golden girl will have a nice big home on large acreage and someone home almost all the time.  She hit the jackpot.  She will be the ‘queen bee’ of this home.  Emma thrives on human attention which she will have a lot of and does not have to share with anyone.  Emma was very much smitten when she met K and B and she of course displayed what a lovely golden girl she is.  Emma has come a long way in a short period of time in rescue and been through a lot and this is what it is all about, the dog.   ♥   We very much enjoyed fostering this golden and will sure miss her. A big congrats to you missy golden girl and to you K & B!  It was a great pleasure to meet you both and to once again foster an outstanding rescue golden retriever.

Emma continues to do fantastic.  She is fine with free roam now which we give her most of the time.  We have finally been able to go out for walks, and she does very good.  She likes to walk on your right side for whatever reason and that is sure ok.  Emma is definitely all golden and just loves her people, go where they go, give that ‘golden groan of satisfaction and happiness”,  and golden tail wags.  She has been to our groomers.  Ronita, [Wags ‘N Whiskers] you are as fantastic as they come, thank you so MUCH for being a business who supports Ragom and a wonderful person who donates her skills and time for our Ragom dogs in real need of bathes/grooming!  We are so very fortunate to have you! Emma did ok at her place but was not crazy about the dryer but we both agree she has never been to one before.  Her coat is beautiful and of course now, is nice and soft and clean.  She really did need one!  Our girl is scheduled next week for her spay (this week’s had to get cancelled) and that will be so nice to have behind her.  Emma has your typical gentle golden mouth for treats, and truly listens well to commands now.  To ‘wait’ or ‘no’ is perfect.  The ‘sit’ will take a little more time.  You don’t have to look at her and tell her to come, just use your finger and she is right there!  Emma does not have any interest in our resident dogs and she would be just fine as an only.  She is mellow and very aware of what is going on around her and yes, where you are! Need someone to follow you to the bathroom?  To the other end of the house?  Downstairs?  Oh yeah, she does stairs just fine, and she ALSO has a good nose where the cat food was! So got that overwith now.  Didn’t think she would go all the way downstairs to snoop on her own (now babygated) as she is always next to your side. Ha!  I have only seen her chew a couple of times try to chew on one of our dog’s nyla bone, otherwise, there just isn’t any toy/bone item she is interested in.  She is just a lovely girl.  Very good manners.
