Please welcome Remington 14-413 into RAGOM. The sweet boy has had a rough end of the year, but 2015 will prove to be a better!

What we know about Remington is that he lived with his first family until October 2014, and then he was surrendered to a small rescue. He was diagnosed with Hepatic Encephalopathy as a pup and needed medicine and special food which was not provided by the shelter. Shortly after adoption, he became very ill and his family took Remington to the vet where he was found to have a medical issue which required medicine that needed to be given 4 times a day and special food. Remington's adopted family had already fallen in love with him, but knew they could not give Remington what he needed at this time, so they made the most loving and difficult decision to surrender him to RAGOM. Remington has been taken care of by the VCA in Richfield along with some RAGOM volunteers. We are so thankful for everyone's care.

Now for the really good stuff. Remi is a super-duper sweet boy. Looks to be a Lab with a slender build, around 65 pounds. He has bonded very quickly with my husband and I, so I am confident he will bond quickly with his new family when they find him.

This goofball is definately ready to find his forever family, so contact your placement advisor if you would like to learn more about him.

It is with a heavy heart we let you know we said goodbye to Remi this morning. He was giving us signals it was time and it was confirmed when we got to the vet this morning. His abdomen had grown very large and the vet said she could feel how big his liver had grown.

We would like to start of by thanking a few people. Starting with his Surrendering Owner. Thank you for finding him in the shelter and prolonging his life. When you surrendered Remi to RAGOM, we were able to get to the bottom of his health problems. Thanks to all the RAGOM volunteers who touched his life. Thank you to the VCA in Richfield for boarding him when he first came into RAGOM. Thank you to Dr. Chavez and Dr. Raz at the Inver Grove Animal Hospital for diagnosing him and for being there for us. You helped us keep his quality of life the best possible.. Lastly, we thank Remi's Sponsors: Carl and Mary S, and for the bunny token from Andy 07-497. You let us know even the pups in Hospice have a fan club.

Now to talk more about what we loved about Remi and what he loved.

  • He perferred sleeping, in our bed. :) It helped that he was a good snuggler.
  • He loved to drink out of the hose or our pond.
  • Remi was great at protecting his property.
  • He was the best stick hunter in the world.
  • He was a great co-pilot in the car, curling up and enjoying the ride, and recently, we found out he enjoyed boat rides.
  • He LOVED our son, Seth. He showed him the ropes by teaching Seth to bark, drink from the hose, and patrol the yard.
  • Remi was a ninja at counter-surfing. No food was safe on any surface and it was taken without shame.

I sure will miss my shadow!

Sorry it has taken me so long to send in this update. We have been spending a lot of time outside. Remi LOVES finding sticks in the yard and chewing them. He sometimes even helps us with pruning by ripping a dead stick off of our landscaping. He is pretty darn cute.

Remi has been doing pretty well. This has probably been his worst week yet, but he is showing no signs of pain. He just likes to stay close to us and he does a lot of sleeping. He has been easy to care for; he just needs his meds and prescription food.

He has really bonded with our son, Seth. He was a little upset when Seth spent the night at his Grandma's house. He kept checking his room to see if he was home yet. :-)

Please enjoy the pictures of Seth and Remi having fun with the hose. Remi LOVES drinking for the hose and Seth had to check it out for himself!

Whoa! I just noticed Andy purchased a bunny rabbit to decorate my page - thank you so much! I will let my foster sister know; she will be so jealous! She likes to catch bunnies in the backyard.

I, however, Love sticks! My foster dad will trim the shrubs and I get to take the sticks that land on the ground. Last weekend was so windy some sizable sticks fell out of the tree. I was in Heaven! I took turns carrying different sticks around and took my time chewing off barks and little nubs. It was so awesome!

Well, I better go! Foster Mom wants to tell you something.

Hi! Remi's foster mom here. Remi is such a good boy. He is loving Spring! Backyard time is the best. He is still having more good days than bad. Today was a tough day, but thankfully, the whole day was not bad. We often catch him smiling while he is lounging and it really warms our hearts. We are so glad we got him out of boarding so he could live out the rest of his days in the comfort of our home. He has been such a lovely houseguest even with the counter-surfing. ;-) His favorite time of the day is any time our son is in his high chair...that just means he will get reject veggies and fruit.

Thought I would give you an update on how Remi is doing. He is still having more good days than bad days. His energy level is lower, but he certainly has his bursts of energy.

Remi likes to hang out with me and so does my son. I spend a lot of time trying to keep my son from bugging Remi while he is sleeping. I did, however, get a picture of Seth showing me Remi's nose. Remi would just open his eyes and then lick Seth's fingers.

Remi hangs out with me while I am sewing. He will lay right on my fabric scraps. Our resident dog, Ally, will still get Remi to wrestle occasionally. We most recently bought a really long stuffed toy because we heard Remi likes to play tug-of-war! It took us awhile to get Ally to participate, but we eventually got the tug-of-war started. Remi was in heaven!

This guy is also a ninja at counter-surfing. He is teaching us no food is safe on the counter and he has no shame in eating it. We had pizza one night and he quietly helped himself to a piece of pizza. I caught him in the act...but when I said his name, he just stole the pizza faster. Ha! What a turkey!

We love how spunky this guy is. So glad we are the ones who get to spend the last bit of his life with. He makes us smile and I hope we are keeping him comfortable. I am so glad it is spring so he can spend time in the yard with us. Chasing squirrels and birds is a favorite pastime.

You are such a sweetheart, Remington! 14-413 Xo Erinn You are such a sweetheart, Remington! Xo Erinn

We have been trying to get to the bottom of Remington's health issues and we had answer, but sad news too.

While having an ultrasound to "see" the liver better, it was noticed he had a mass on his bladder. After further testing, it has been determined the mass is cancer. Remington is now in hospice care with us. We plan to spoil him with attention and keep him comfortable until his "bad" days outnumber the good days.

We are hopeful to keep him pain-free and maximize his good days. He is a sweet boy who is easy to spoil. We are so glad he found us.

Thanks again to his Sponsors! Your donations allowed us to do the tests necessary to determine his condition.

My Foster Mom just told me about this update page! I can't believe she kept this a secret!!

First off, I must give a shout-out to Erinn for my Valentine's Token! Thanks also to Carl and Mary for Sponsoring me. I can't tell you how much that means to me! Your sponsorship will help RAGOM pay my vet bills.

I have the best news ever! My foster sister, Ally, has finally started wrestling with me. We are getting in one to two wrestling sessions per day. It is pretty fun! Please enjoy the pictures of us wrestling.
