In addition to LOVE this dog has the following requirements:

Rocky has been with us a week now after being surrounded by a loving family that didn’t have the time to commit to him. He has a 5 year old, pure bred golden retriever and a love bug extraordinaire. He is a very sweet boy and needy for loving, attention. Rocky likes to hold hands; I mean paws when snuggling on the couch. He lived with two smaller dogs and hasn’t been exposed to cats in the house. He has been known to chase cats and other outside animals. His SO told us everyone who met Rocky, loved him. He had good recall and could be let outside without a tie-out or fence. We noticed, he comes in immediately after potting. He is learning to run around outside in our fenced backyard. He chases after Tyson 14-348; who initiates a game of chase.

He kennels very well and responds to “kennel” when we need to leave the house. He takes treats nicely from us, but makes extra efforts to eat every ones (human and dog) treats. We are working on getting him to calm down with food. He jumps up when we are carrying food. We have been hand feeding him to slow down how he eats. He was previously fed once a day, so we are feeding him 2-3 times a day to let him know food will be coming regularly.

Rocky met our neighbor kids and enjoyed playing with him. Until he learns manners around food, we think it best he goes to a family with older or no kids.

His favorite toys were stuffed animals, so I limited his exposure this week. He does not know drop or leave, we have been working with him on this with a ball. Yesterday, Tyson 2 and Rocky got after each other when I let him have an animal. Now, they are both more reserved around each other. His ear got in the way of their spat, which we discovered hours later when we whimpered.

He will be vetted this week and he is marked unavailable until we know what the next steps are for the open sore, growth on his side and his ear is examined.

Updates

Rocky had his tumor removed on 12/19, on 12/24 we woke up to him licking all of his stiches out, so the vet put in staples. On 12/27 he managed to chew the staples out and eat many of them! We spent the day at the ER Vet to have his incision examined and determine a healing plan. Today, he is doing much better, it is healing well, but he is going to have a doozy of a scar. He is on pain meds and an antibiotic for the next week to help with healing process.

He is doing well at the cabin, enjoying being in the country. He is spending more time outside and will roll around in the snow. We limit this because of his incision. We were told he had good recall, so we tested him with a trailing leash and he did great. He stuck around while we played outside. He walked great on the flat leash.

He is 100% Golden – needy for attention! He needs to be near us, touching us or pawing for more pets. He is learning to lie on the couch next to us and not be pawing at us for attention. He is fine to lie on the rug as well. At the cabin, he has been using the famous plaid couch that every foster dog we have had has claimed. Rocky has claimed it for napping and sleeping. This works great because it would be hard to have his cone head in a kennel.

Rocky had the mass removed on 12/19/14 and had been doing fine until we found he licked all his stitches out overnight. I was able to get him in the vet this morning and staples were added to the incision area. When at the vet today, I have received Rocky's lab results back today. The mass removed was benign with no expectation of metastasizing. From the lab report, "benign mesenchymal neoplasm and suggests the differentials of fibroma and neurofibroma". It was much larger than the vet expected upon initial examination. On the surface, it had raised over 2" long. It is great news that the mass was benign and should not be a problem in the future.

Rocky was very groggy the first few days, but has found his energy and spirit again the last couple of days. He didn't like the cone and removed it within in 5 minutes, so we have been using a tshirt to prevent him from exposing his incision to slobber. The other boys are being very gentle around Rocky, especially when he was laying on the couch in a pain med daze.

The boys are doing great together, this is even a great picture of Tyson 14-348.

Rocky has been with us a couple of weeks now and is learning the ropes of foster life. He is becoming more of a gentleman and learning some manners. He knows his name, sit, come and with selective hearing off or down (like when he doesn't want to get "OFF" the bed). He knows he needs to sit before he eats or gets treats. He is less jumpy when food is around. We have been consistent with him over food. A couple of times we let him eat in his kennel and noticed he ate slower, as he knew no other dog could get his food. He has not jumped up on the counters, but does cruise around the kitchen or lounges in hopes of a tasty treat.

He continues to be so personable; needing lots of attention. We are working with him to lay beside us for petting or to hold paws.

He does not relax enough to take naps on the couch or on the floor. He has not had any accidents in the house! Rocky is learning to play nice with toys and to share them. With 3 dogs in the house, the toys can some times be a point of growling to define "its mine". He has met several people at our house without issue.

He was vetted last week, brought up to date on vaccinations, heartworm negative and will have his tumor removed on Friday. I spoke with the vet today and he thought it would test benign again.

We had professional pictures taken on Sunday, you will notice they are all close-ups, maybe a bit blurry because he licked Sara's camera!
