Winston is a  Goldendoodle  who was born on 1/23/2014 and is just over 6 months old.  Winston and some kennel mates came to  RAGOM  through the efforts of a good Samaritan and has been in my home since  Saturday . He met my residents and foster boy Ben Franklin 14-192 in stride and thinks he has struck gold with so many dogs to play with in an open yard.  Winston is a pretty calm pup for his age and size and he exhibits great curiosity at anything and everything that crosses his path as he wanders about.  Winston is pretty thin and dirty and went straight from the car to the walk in shower.  We are working on becoming familiar with leashes, kenneling, and coming when called.  He already seems to know his name and though timid and shy is not afraid of humans or his environment.

Winston has completed all his shots(distemper) this morning and weighed in at 51 lbs.  He still needs to gain some weight but al least he has a great appetite and does not have to be told twice to belly up to the feeding dish.  His stool sample is negative now that he has completed all his meds from his first visit.Winston met a great family and Monday they will return with their two dogs to see how they all get along.  Winston has such a easy going great personality that if he can get along with my pack I think it is a sure deal he will pass the test.  If it is a match he will be going home with his new family.  Winston will miss Ben Franklin 14-192 but if their dogs like to play Winston will be in doggy heaven.  Since Winston was kenneled with only his littermates he needs the socialization with other dogs to learn dog on dog cues and communication so having two mature dogs in the home will teach him so many things about living in a house that has it own set of rules.

Winston has discovered "tennis balls" and he enjoys finding them in the yard, dropping and picking them up again and again, or just carrying them around in his mouth.  He is learning self-play with the tennis balls which hopefully will be a prelude to learning to retrieve.  He watches them roll away and then jumps up and pounces on them like any puppy having fun. I missed Winston's "I got a pee" behavior so he had an accident and so far it is the only one in the house since he has been here.  Now that I know his behavior signal I can get him outside much faster.  Winston sleeps in the kennel and is vocal for a couple minutes but then settles down to sleep.  I tried one night of his sleeping in the gated bedroom with the pack but he promptly knocked over the water bucket and just could not settle in the open kennel so for now he will sleep in his kennel with the door closed. To put on some weight he is eating his dry/wet mix without issues, taking his meds in the mix, and knows where the watering hole is in the house.  I have added salmon oil and a daily multivitamin once a day.  He is also getting aprobiotic sprinkled on his food.  All of these will help him put on some weight and help his stool firm up which I am already able to see.Enjoy the new pictures of Winston and his ball.
