Lady 14-153

Profile

In addition to LOVE this dog has the following requirements:
Entered Foster Care Fence Kid Friendly Another Dog Cat Friendly
6/7/2014 Not required Yes Not required Not tested
This is the most recent information available; however, it may change as we learn more about the dog.

Lady is a sweet, mellow purebred Golden Retriever. She just turned nine years old and gets along fine with kids and other dogs. She has not been cat tested, but does not have a high prey drive. Her family loved her dearly since she was a puppy, but circumstances changed and they no longer had the time and financial resources to give Lady what she needs to be healthy and happy. They did what they thought was best for Lady and surrendered her to RAGOM to find a new family.

According to her family, Lady has suffered from allergies and was taking thyroid medication. She was completely shaved before arriving to RAGOM's care, but we were told her fur was thin in patches. We have a wellness exam scheduled with a veterinarian at the end of this week. We'll let you know how it goes.

Lady has been friendly and laid-back since she has been here for the last few days. I love her goofy face. She likes being scratched and seeks attention, but then is content to go lay down or do something else. She likes to play with her ball and rope. Sometimes I hear her in the hallway making bumping noises -- when I peek and look, she is simply having fun gently bouncing the side of her torso against the wall in a playful manner!

Lady is currently overweight, probably by 15 to 20 pounds -- she weighs 90 pounds. She is easy to control during walks with a leash and needs only a minimal amount of daily exercise. We think Lady is wonderful and would make a great addition to almost any household. Contact your placement advisor, if interested.

Lady had a great veterinarian exam -- no medical problems identified except it is likely her thyroid levels are not what they should be. This would explain her heavy weight and spotty fur and skin condition. All of these symptoms can be resolved with thyroid medication! The results of her thyroid panel will be back in a week or so. In the meantime, we are giving her regular medicated baths to help her skin get back in balance.

Her white undercoat is starting to grow out, making her look like a lamb to me. She continues to be sweet, quiet and cooperative in our household. Lady goes on long walks with Foster Dad and the other dogs, and enjoys playing with toys, treats, and belly rubs. She frequently nuzzles in for a long hug from me.

If you'd like to talk with us about Lady, let your placement advisor know. She will also be available to meet in Duluth at Petco during the RAGOM Meet and Greet on Sunday, July 6, from 12 noon to 2pm.
