Rocky (Shadow 14-132)

Profile

In addition to LOVE this dog has the following requirements:
Entered Foster Care Fence Kid Friendly Another Dog Cat Friendly
5/13/2014 Not required Age 10+ Not required Yes
This is the most recent information available; however, it may change as we learn more about the dog.

Please welcome Shadow 14-132 to RAGOM. Shadow is a 14-week-old male, said to be a Golden Retriever/Husky mix. He started his life in Sumter, South Carolina. His family had 2 adults, 5 kids, and 3 or 4 cats. It was a bit more than Shadow could handle, so he was surrendered to RAGOM. Shadow has been to "Puppy Kindergarten" class. He seems to have a little start on "sit" and "no," and has some recall. He has not had any potty accidents in the house so far. Shadow is crate trained and will usually go in when you say "kennel up." I haven't given him free roam yet because he wants to play very rough with my cats and the other dogs. He lived with cats previously. I think he may be ok with a very dog-savvy cats.

Shadow is used to a tie-out, so no fence is required. It is always a good thing to have a fence, but I know it is not always allowed. Shadow does pull some on walks with a flat collar. I haven't tried a Gentle Leader on him yet. Shadow is able to walk 3 miles at a time with no problem. I wish I could say the same for me.

Shadow was kept up to date with vaccines by his previous owners and is due for some boosters. He is scheduled to get his RAGOM wellness exam and any boosters along with heartworm preventive and flea/tick preventive on Monday, 5/19.

Shadow has only been here a few days, so there is much more to learn about him. Overall, he seems like a very well-behaved puppy. He does take a little while to get used to new people.

Hi Everyone!

This is Rocky. I used to be named Shadow but my new Mom and Dad thought Rocky was a better name for me....You know, ready to rumble!

Mom and Dad have 3 human boys. The oldest one is married, and get this, has a 1-1/2 year old 4 legged girl named Rita who I love to chase and wrestle with. The other 2 boys are in college, but since I was adopted in late May, I got to spend most of the summer getting to know them. One really likes for me to show him all the nice walking paths around here. The other likes to train me with Cheerios. They all like to play tug-of-war with me and sometimes I let them win so they don't feel bad.  Mom and Dad were really worried that I wouldn't get along with the resident feline, Oreo (king of the house!) but after a few boxing matches and a lot of hissing I've learned to give him some space.  Although we don't snuggle up with each other yet, we can touch noses and look out the window together!

I got to go to Grandma and Grandpa's lakehouse a few times this summer. At first I didn't really like the water, but my cousin Rita showed me how to play in it. Oh yeah, I learned something else there on a walk in the woods; if you see a black and white animal, it isn't always friendly like my feline brother Oreo. Mom and Dad say that I was quite fragrant for a long time from that encounter!

My favorite place to go with Mom and Dad is a park where I don't have to wear a leash! I can run and run and run. A lot of times I make new friends there and we all run together. The best part about that place is we stay inside the fence and the critters stay on the outside!

Well, just wanted to let everyone know how I was doing, especially Foster Dad Barry who wasn't used to taking in puppies - look how big I've gotten!  I'll always have a special memory of him and Foster sisters Ziggy and Belle. I was very sad to hear that Ziggy crossed the Rainbow Bridge. I hope Belle isn't too lonely, sounds like she's really busy showing all the new foster brothers and sisters the ropes.

Thanks to Ragom and all the foster parents like Barry.  I am really happy in my forever home...not sure who rescued who :)

Since the last update, Shadow has healed very well from his neuter surgery. Fortunatly, he didn't lick at it, so he didn't need to wear a cone. I tried the cone on him and he wasn't happy about it at all.

Shadow did have a couple of pee accidents in the house. It seemed that if he got stimulated by playing or people, he has to go out.

Shadow had a family interested in him and came to meet him. They were prepared with treats and bought his friendship very quickly. He charmed them and stole their hearts. They came back and adopted him yesterday. He remembered them and they didn't need to buy his friendship a second time. They did bring treats so he could show off his "sit" skills.

Thank You, RAGOM, for taking in Shadow on short notice and Thank You, Neil and Marj, for adopting Shadow who will now be known as Rocky.

Since the last update, Shadow got his wellness exam and booster shot. He weighed in at 27 lbs. He is a very healthy pup. No parasites either.

Today Shadow went to MN SNAP for neuter surgery. Everything went well. Now the hard part of keeping him inactive for a few days to heal.

Shadow has gotten better with the cats and they have gotten more used to him. Now he doesn't think of them as toys.

Shadow's recall is pretty good. He also has "sit" down very well if treats are involved. Shadow is a little scared meeting new people, but comes around pretty quickly if the new people have treats. Shadow has had no potty accidents in the house in the week he has been here. I would have to say he is housebroken. He is also crate trained and sleeps quietly all night. I think Shadow will be very easy to train with the great start he has. Did I mention he loves treats?
