Are you a RAGOM fan who thinks Golden Retriever puppies are just too cute? But smart enough to know how much work they can be? And curious enough to wonder just how big that adorable puppy might become? Well... have we got a deal for you! Blondie looks like a 6-month-old Golden Retriever puppy, even though she's a Golden mix who's fully grown at approximately 14 months and 30 lbs of just too cute. :)

Blondie's a real sweetheart who wants to be friends with everyone she meets. She had my dogs wrestling with her within 15 minutes of her arrival. At her well doggy checkup, she insisted on making the rounds and even meeting the vet techs working in the lab area. Blondie hasn't chewed on anything inappropriate, but does know how to empty a toy basket. Bones, Kongs, and antlers seem to be favorites for gnawing; the jury's still out on the life expectancy of soft, stuffed toys. I'm not going to promise that she's fully house trained. She's had a couple of accidents, but that could be due to the stress of a cross-country transport. It could also be due to the stress of moving to MN in January -- especially this January!

Not much is known about Blondie's background, as she was found as stray in Georgia. Thankfully, some Guardian Angels took Blondie under their wings until a spot was found for her with RAGOM. Then Carol and Heidi, her Guardian Angels, and Kathy - a RAGOM volunteer, and Marion with Mobile Mutts all worked together to arrange her transport up here. It sometimes takes a very extended village to help a dog in need, but I know Blondie will make someone a very happy adopter! Blondie will make her debut from 1 - 3 on Saturday at the Burnsville Petco event. Be sure to stop by if you'd like to meet this 'perma-puppy.' I'm guessing she won't be a foster for long.

Updates

Saturday, June 23, 2018

Since her last update Sunshine has gained a fur-sister. Wisp is a young border collie rescue and the two have become good friends. They can often be seen playing with one another, and enjoy going on walks as well as spending time out in the backyard.

The perfect de-stresser during exams, Sunshine was a hit on college campus, and made plenty of new human friends. She continues to also enjoy having her dog friend, Bentley, over on occasion.

Though Sunshine is an energetic dog who loves her exercise time, she is also perfectly content to sit somewhere (preferably where she has a good view of her surroundings) and observe.

It’s been a busy year since Sunshine’s last update. Her girl graduated from high school, her fur-brother Ranger (09-036) passed away just before his 15th birthday, and Sunshine herself turned five years old. She still has a lot of energy, but is no longer a crazy teenager. She loves to sit on the steps leading out from the back porch keeping the backyard safe from squirrels, rabbits, and chipmunks. One of the photos below shows the one agility trick she learned to do well before her girl left for college. Sunshine's motto for age five: play hard, rest hard!

Sunshine is having a fun autumn so far! One of her favorite activities is simply sitting out on the back porch, waiting for squirrels to trespass into her yard so she can chase them. (She hasn't caught any of them yet, though she has gotten quite close!) Sunshine still enjoys her daily walks, and her weekly visits from her doggy friend Bentley. Since Sunshine's last update, her fur-brother Toby passed away at the beginning of June.

We have had Sunshine for a little over two years now! In November, she turned three. Sunshine is a highly energetic girl who loves to go on walks and play with her doggy friend Bentley. I have recently started to do a little agility training with her, and am having fun with that. Currently, I am teaching her to weave through poles, jump through a hoop, and how to touch a target. Sunshine learns very quickly!

Dear RAGOM,

Sunshine is having a fun autumn! She loves to go on long walks and play fetch in the backyard. She's quite the jumper, and will leap high into the air to catch a ball. I hope to start training Sunshine in some agility this fall, which I think will be lots of fun. She's such a smart dog, and learns things fast.

Enjoy the new pictures!

Since Sunshine's last update, we have moved to a new house! Sunshine and her fur brothers, Ranger (a RAGOM dog) and Toby, have settled in well to their new surroundings. Our new house has a fenced-in backyard, and Sunshine seems to really like having a nice place to play in.

I frequently take Sunshine on walks to downtown, and she loves that. Sometimes people will pet her, and comment on what a nice dog she is. Sunshine really likes kids, and loves to be petted; she will melt into a little puddle at their feet, belly up and tail wagging.

She is also a very silly girl; recently she barked at her own reflection in the mirror, thinking it was another dog in the house. We moved the floor-length mirror for now, but she keeps checking that corner and growls under her breath, as if she expects the other dog to be hiding there somewhere. Sunshine also tries to catch flies, though she's not very good at it.

On Father's Day, Sunshine and Ranger went to the nearby lake and spent an hour there, chasing sticks. They didn't want to leave when it was time to go.

I look forward to a fun summer with Sunshine!

Sunshine is still as hyper and cute as ever! She is really enjoying the warm spring weather. Sunshine loves going on walks and bike rides, and also likes chasing balls around the yard. Since her last update, Sunshine's golden friend, Buster, passed away. He was such a great playmate for her, and I have attached a photo of them together. I am still working on Sunshine's training; one of her newest tricks I am teaching her is to open her unlatched kennel door. Sunshine still enjoys weekly visits from Bentley, and she also gets along fairly well with her older fur brothers, Toby and RAGOM boy Ranger. I am looking forward to teaching her new things and spending warm spring days with her. Sunshine is such a great dog!

Dear RAGOM,

As of Feb. 5, Sunshine has been with us for exactly one year! It's been a fabulous year with her; I'm so glad we got the opportunity to adopt Sunshine. She is such a smart, playful, cute dog, who loves to cuddle, and will lick away our tears when we're sad. Sunshine has learned so much since she first arrived, from the basic obedience sit and down commands, to others, such as high-five and weaving between my legs. She is always so happy to see us when we come home after being away, and didn't mind at all when fur-brother Toby joined the family. Sunshine is an amazing dog, and we all love her so much. Enjoy some of my favorite pictures of her!

Dear RAGOM,

Sunshine is doing very well. She had a fun Christmas; two of her friends, Buster and Bentley, were over, and she enjoyed playing with of them (especially Buster).

Sunshine is a quick learner, and I have recently taught her how to give me a high-five, which she does very enthusiastically. I am also teaching her how to run through a tunnel, spin around in a circle both clockwise and counterclockwise, and jump over my arm. She is really good at the command "leave it", as the attached picture demonstrates.

I took her up to our screened-in treehouse earlier this week, and she liked being able to peer out over the world at a much higher height then normal. She adores going on walks around town and around our yard, though it's been so cold out lately that she is ready to go in after about ten minutes outside.

Dear RAGOM,

Sunshine turns two today! Since her last update, Sunshine has a new fur-brother. His name is Toby, and was found as a stray. Both Sunshine and our other RAGOM dog, Ranger 09-036  get along surprisingly well with Toby. Toby is about ten, and doesn't really play with Sunshine, but that doesn't stop her from trying every day, so far with little success.

Sunshine and Toby took a Canine Good Citizen training class in October. Sunshine did very well, and is very good at the command 'leave it' when it comes to treats placed on the ground before her or balanced on her paws. A Goldendoodle she knew in puppy school also took the CGC training class, and they both liked getting to meet each other again, though this time the Goldendoodle was twice Sunshine's size, instead of the two being the same height. Sunshine may not be taking the actual CGC test soon, but she is far from the dog we first adopted who didn't know any basic commands at all.

I occasionally take Sunshine out to our backyard on a long leash, and she has a blast running around sniffing everything. Sunshine really enjoyed romping around in the two-inch deep snow that we had this week.

She still loves chasing balls or any other toy around the yard or in the house. One of her favorite activities is de-fuzzing tennis balls. She managed to destroy two in less than twenty-four hours. She also loves toys that squeak, and generally doesn't tear them up like she does to fuzzy balls. She still loves deer antlers, and an occasional Kong with peanut butter stuffed inside. Ranger and Sunshine still enjoy playing outside with separate toys, though if Ranger has a ball and for some reason Sunshine doesn't, she will bark loudly at him to show her frustration, until he either drops the toy or I find her ball that she left on the other side of the yard.

Sunshine never fails to make me smile at her cute antics and adorable puppy-like  face. I look forward to many more years with her, and hope she will eventually become a therapy dog.

Snow dog!

Dear RAGOM,

Sunshine (formerly Blondie 13-433) is still a little ball of energy and fun. I can't believe we've had her for six moths already! She's always very curious, and loves to play with her friend, Buster (the golden in the picture with Sunshine). They sound vicious when they play, but have lots of fun with each other. Sunshine also likes it when her other doggy friend, Bentley (the little white dog shown in one of the pictures), comes over to hang out. She and Ranger 09-036 get along fairly well. Both dogs like to chase toys around outside. Sunshine is a wonderful and smart dog, and we're all happy that she joined our family.

Dear RAGOM,

Sunshine (formerly known as Blondie) 13-433 has been with us for nearly three months, and has completed her second puppy class. She enjoys snapping at water that comes out of the garden hose and going on walks. Sunshine loves toys, deer antlers and things that squeak in particular.

Sincerely,

Atia C.

Sunshine (the former Blondie 13-433) is doing very well in our home.

She finished Puppy Class 1 and is already started on Puppy Class 2.
