Max (Evan 13-372)

Profile

Hello, world. My name is Evan and I am a 5-week-old Golden Retriever that came into RAGOM with my momma and my brothers and sister from a breeder who decided to retire. First, I want to thank everyone who has been sending me such cool things! My favorite things to do are to eat, play, and poop, so all the extra food, toys, and towels - to name just a few things - have made life easier for foster mom. My siblings and I are doing very well in foster care. I have the darkest coat of the 5 pups and my foster mom says I am mischievous. I broke out of the puppy pen on my second day here and I love to go looking for trouble. That’s what makes me so cute and sweet, FM says. She may have whispered in my ear that I am the favorite, but don’t tell anyone else that.

  • Evan and his siblings were born on 10/9/13 and will be ready to go to their forever homes the first weekend in December. They will all be spayed/neutered and have their first set of puppy shots.
  • Evan and his siblings will have been introduced to many different people, cats, and dogs in their foster home. He will need continued socialization and obedience training to be the best dog that he can be.
  • We have started attempting to potty train the puppies, but they still have many accidents at this age and will need continued training in this area in their forever homes. They are not able to hold it all day long between 2-4 months of age and will need someone able to come home and let them out at midday for potty breaks.
  • If there are children in the home, please keep in mind that puppies love to chew, nibble on fingers and toes, and have a lot of energy. If you have small hands that you are worried about being nibbled on, then a puppy may not be for you.
  • These guys and gal may be small now, but they grow quickly into big dogs who need training and a family who can commit to them for a lifetime. They will be your best friend for life, but need to go to families willing to give them a forever home for the next 10+ years.

We had to say goodbye to our beloved Max a few days ago. He had a very rare skin type of lymphoma and was only five years old.

Max was truly an amazing dog and loved by everyone that met him. He was especially loved by his family. Our three boys grew up with Max and to them he was a brother.

We are all devastated by the loss of Max way too soon. He did have a lot of health issues in his short life. Terrible allergies, antibiotic resistant staph infection and a torn ACL. He received wonderful care from our local veterinarian and his dermatology vet as well.

Max will forever live in our hearts

Evan and his siblings are almost 7 weeks old. They are growing, playing, and doing fabulously in their foster home. Evan is the smallest of the boys, but these puppies are big guys. I hypothesize that because Erika has a small litter this time, she has big puppies. Mom is about 70 lbs, so I do not anticipate them to be huge Goldens and I think their growth will slow down as they mature.

The puppies are being weaned from their momma and are eating 3 meals of dry kibble with a tablespoon or so of wet food per day. They had a stool sample checked last week and were positive for Giardia, an intestinal parasite. They were treated with a 3-day course of dewormer and once completely weaned, will be treated with an antibiotic/antiparasitic and retested to make sure the parasite is gone.

Evan is a little spitfire. He and his sister Etta are always the first getting into the action. He is also sweet, cuddly, and loves his people. He is an active, playful puppy! He and one of the neighbor boys played and played together this afternoon. I know he is going to make some family very happy!
