Hello future adopters, this is Jill and she is 4 years old and a PB GR. She is being very camera shy due to the fact that she is watching her waistline as it expands. Due to the fact that she is pregnant and due the weekend before Thanksgiving. Jill has come to us from a retiring breeder. I hope to get some pictures soon when she is not looking.

Jill has the cutest & sweetest face that I have not seen in years. She has a beautiful black nose and huge black eyes with black eyeliner, and she looks at you with a silly face - sometimes shy, afraid and then other times she is very curious.

She is learning the ways of home life and this comes with potty training too. She is also learning how to trust and what love is. Jill has already picked up on the toys and bones in this house. My FF Ali even likes to double bunk with Jill to show her that life with FM is great. Every day for Jill is another step forward and yes, we have some days where we go backwards too.

More to come and pictures too!

Updates

Tuesday, March 11, 2014

Jill has been adopted and went to her new home on Friday (March 7th). She is settling in and getting to know her new family.

Jill has had a rough few weeks. She is doing so much better now! Her heart is beating normally. She has developed a slight heart murmur, but we are not sure if this is permanent damage, or if she will continue to heal and the murmur will go away. Time will tell and no treatment is needed for this, so we decided to let her continue with her adoption and let her start her new life!

Her new family is great! They were very excited to get Jill! She is such a nice dog and over time will become a confident girl! She has many dog beds to pick from for her safe spot. Her new mom tells me she moves from bed to bed and has not chosen a favorite yet. She is eating regularly, and going outside and coming back in with no troubles! Those are the important things she needs to do at first; the rest will come in time!

Dogs that come from a breading situation like Jill do not get much socialization and they can be very fearful of many things. Jill is doing well and in time will only continue to grow and become more social. She has a great fur sister and a wonderful family to help her with that!

Jill and I have been through a lot together! Some good and some bad. Jill came to my home at the end of November and a few short days later, gave birth to 11 beautiful puppies! Some were very small and dehydrated and just not doing very well. I helped Jill by tube feeding them every four hours around the clock for the first 3 weeks. After that, I only helped three to four times a day. By week 4, they were starting to eat solid food and Jill was able to keep up with there milk demands! The next four weeks, Jill cared for her babies and was a wonderful mother. All 11 grew strong and are playful, very socialized puppies!

The puppies went to their homes and then we got to see Jill change! She was not in mother mode anymore and she started interacting with the other dogs in the house. She would run and play in the yard and loved to play chase. Not a care in the world! Nothing better then seeing a dog come out of their shell and loving life!

Before dogs can be adopted, they need to be spayed or neutered. Jill went for her spay and things did not go routinely for her. We went through a lot and were not sure she was going to survive her ordeal. She is very strong and she continues to improve every day. This girl has a lot of living to do! She had a bit of a setback, but will move forward and have a good life with a wonderful family!

I am going to miss her so much; she has been such a gift in my life. To go through what we have really bonds us with our dogs. Fosters dogs are ours until we find them the right home and perfect family for them. I have done my job and Jill is with her perfect family! It doesn't make it any easer to say good-bye and to let them go. We do it because we love them and want the very best for them!

I would like to thank everyone that donated to Jill and helped with the cost of her care! RAGOM can't do what they do without the help of such wonderful people!!

THANK YOU!

Jill has been released from the hospital!!!

We are so happy that Jill is doing much better today (2/22/2014) and has come home! Her heart is beating normally and her heart rate has slowed down to a more normal range. She is on some heart medication to help keep it this way. We hope she will only have to take that medication for a week.

She was very scared at the vet hospital; it is loud and unfamiliar. That is not a good situation for a dog with her background. Our goal was to get her home so she could relax, rest, and get better. As I am writing this, she is sleeping soundly snoring away!

One of her other goals was to eat better so she could take the oral medication. She was not meeting that goal, but I felt if she was at home, she would do better at eating. When we got home, I made her some boiled hamburger and rice. As she started to smell the meat cooking, she perked up her head and gave me a big smile! She has eaten that with no troubles and is taking her medications wrapped up in some lunch meat. She was acting hungry and was excited for her second meal. She is also taking treats from me! I think it is safe to say this goal has been met.

Jill will need to have her heart checked out later this week to make sure things are still improving. She is on restricted activity for the next two weeks, and then we will check her a second time and she will also get her staples removed at that time.

This has been a very scary week for Jill and Foster Mom! We would like to thank everyone for all the kind words and the valentines that are decorating her page. As you can imagine, her medical bills are high and we are so grateful to everyone that donated to help her out.

A special thank-you to Jessica and Adam Erickson for sponsoring Jill!

Friday, February 21, 2014 -- A quick update on Jill's condition.

Unfortunately, Jill was unable to come home yesterday, Thursday, 2/20/2014, as she is experiencing an irregular heartbeat known as V-tach. The doctors are working hard to get that under control with medications. They are trying to get her off of the IV medications and onto oral medications.

I did get to visit with her for a while Thursday night ,and was able to get her to eat a little baby food and chicken! She also ate again this morning. She has started going outside to go potty. These are all good signs that her system is staring to work. However, she still needs to eat much more to transition to the oral medications, as the oral medications cause nausea on an empty stomach. She is also on anti-nausea medication.

The emergency vet clinic is a very busy place and was very loud last night, which add stress for Jill.  The strange noises, smells, and new people are so far out of her comfort zone for this undersocialized breeding momma.  The most immediate goals for her are to eat well, transition to oral meds, have her heart function stabilize enough so she can come home to recuperate in the place she feels the safest.

We are very thankful for the wonderful doctors and staff at the Oakdale Animal Emergency & Referral Center of MN for the top-notch care they are providing for Jill.  As you can imagine, her medical bills are high and continuing to climb each day.  Given the stress her body went through of losing 1/3 - 1/2 of her total blood volume and the shock she endured, it will be quite some time for her system to fully recover and she may be on heart medications for a few months.

If would like to help Jill with her medical bills, please make a RAGOM donation today!  You can donate at www.ragom.org/shop/donat.html

I will update again when I know more. Please keep Jill in your thoughts and prayers for a full recovery.

Jill went to the vet for her spay surgery yesterday. When I went to pick her up after her spay surgery, she seemed fine. She got into the car with no troubles and we headed home. When we got home, she climbed out of the car and walked into the house. As soon as we got in the house, blood started to drip through her spay incision.

The vet was closed so I took her to the emergency vet. They checked her out and said they thought a suture slipped off one of the ovarian pedicles, and so she was bleeding internally--an arterial bleed. A surgeon was called and she went back into surgery and they were able to stop the bleeding!

She lost a lot of blood, though they were able to clean and transfuse some of the blood they collected from her abdomen. It will take a few weeks for her body to replace her lost blood volume.

She will be very tired and need to be kept calm for the next few weeks. She is doing much better this morning and I think she will be able to come home later today, Thursday, 2/20/2014!  It was a very scary situation and I was very concerned for her; however, it looks like she is out of the woods and will just need some time to heal!

Jill is a fighter and has a strong will to survive! As many of you pet owners know, this kind of special veterinarian care is very expensive. Jill could use some prayers for her healing and donations to help cover her large emergency vet bill. If you would like to help Jill, please make a RAGOM Donation today!  You can donate at www.ragom.org/shop/donat.html

Jill spent Sunday at a meet-and-greet, and she was a little nervous this time. She was offered a big dog bed to make her comfortable. She climbed on and in no time, a few of her friends joined her. These three mamas have become very close and find comfort and love from each other! They seek each other out when we get together.

Nicole 13-351 (front), RaeLynne 13-338 (rear left), and Jill at Chuck and Don's

They like to run and play together when they are outside together. Jill has even started playing a little bit in the house this week! She has found more time for herself now that her babies have gone. Jill had a family come and visit with her when we returned from the meet-and-greet. They love her very much and will be taking her home after her spay surgery next week. We are going to miss her very much, but are so happy for her to start the next chapter in her life with her very own family and her new fur sister, Sweetie!

Jill is doing very well! The last puppy has gone to its forever home and Jill is adjusting to the change. We have put away the puppy pen and the extra large crate. Jill has a much smaller crate now and we are starting to leave the door shut some of the time so she is not hiding out in there all day. We have also started using a trailing leash on her in the house so we can keep her closer to us. That is working very well. She is laying by my feet and looks very comfortable. She had a very big day on Saturday. I was taking one of my other fosters to meet a family, and Jill and her son Jake got to spend the morning with another foster. They got to play outside and run around with a lot of dogs. Jill did great; it turns out she loves to run and play while outside. Here is a video of her! http://youtu.be/-7FMuB4e5nA Jill is the dog with a green collar and a red collar on, bringing up the rear as the dogs run around the shed. Her tail is up high and she is running around with confidence. This is the first time I have seen Jill behave this way! I have great hopes that this will be her normal behavior one day in her future. Jill will be getting her spay surgery in about two weeks and will be ready for her forever home. Jill will need a confident younger dog that likes to play. Young in years or young at heart. She likes to play and would love a playmate! She will need a fenced-in yard and no young children. Jill is a very sweet girl. If you would like to meet her, please contact your placement advisor.

Jill is doing great! She went to her first meet-and-greet on Saturday! She laid on the floor and let people pet her and she even took treats from some people. She is very food motivated, that is very helpful! She is spending more time out of her crate and is interested in what the other dogs are doing. Tonight, she went and picked up a bone and laid down with it and chewed on it. She goes outside and comes back in with no problems. She is very thin right now and we are trying to get some weight on her. He puppies will be going to their new homes this week. Her mama days will be over and she will get to enjoy being a dog! She did make some beautiful babies!!! If you would like to meet Jill, please contact your placement advisor.

Jill is doing well! She is such a good mother, taking such good care of her family! The puppies are 5 1/2 weeks old now and are growing like crazy! They are still nursing from mom, but are also eating softened kibble so mom does not have to produce so much milk. Jill is very thin and we feed her a lot to try and get some weight on her, but I think she will have to give up nursing before that happens. She has about three more weeks of mama duties and she will never have to go through this again.

Jill is very shy of people, but is becoming more friendly to me. She is food motivated, so that is what I am using to get her to come to me. She will eat from my hand, so I am having her come to me and take a treat from my hand. Jill is going outside nicely and comes right back to the door when she is ready to come in. She does not want to be away from her babies for too long. She has not started to play with the resident dogs yet; I think that will happen when the puppies have been adopted.

Jill would like to thank Danielle and Woody for decorating her page with winter icons!

Jill is doing very well! She is very busy taking care of her 11 babies. She takes very good care of them, feeding and keeping them clean. I have been helping her with the feedings because she does not have enough milk to keep up with all of those mouths. All the babies are growing at a good rate and today, we added some solid food; this should help Jill and give her a little break from making so much milk. She is getting out of the puppy box a little more and having some time to herself. If the puppies cry and start making noise, she will go back in and tend to their needs. She is a great mama!

Thursday, December 5, 2013

Jill has been very busy this past week! She is taking care of her new family. She gave birth to 11 puppies!!! She has 6 girls and 5 boys; they are all doing well and gaining weight every day. This is a large litter, so I have been helping her by supplementing the puppies with some formula. Jill is nursing around the clock; she is a great mama! We had to make her a new box for her family. We started with a swimming pool and the puppies are such good climbers that they would crawl up on mom and would be above the top of the pool. I didn't want anyone to fall over the side. The new box is a rectangle and much more comfortable for mom; she can really stretch out!

Jill will be nursing for a few more weeks and then will need to get her milk dried up before she can be spayed. She is looking for her forever home, and if you would like to meet her, she is ready to meet families, but will not be able to go to her forever home until February. Jill came from a retiring breeder, so she will need a well-adjusted dog in her forever home, no small children, and for now, I think she will need a fenced-in yard, but that may change as I get to know her.

Sunday, November 24, 2013

Just a quick update. Today was a big day for Jill: she gave birth. They are all doing fine so far and eating well. She is such a good mama!!! More updates later.

Sunday, November 17, 2013

Jill has been an absolute joy this week to have; she is trusting more and more every day. She loves treats of all kinds, especially hard-boiled eggs & cottage cheese with her dog food. Her belly is growing by leaps and bounds, and you can see and feel the pups moving like crazy as she lays on her side. We sit next to her in the evening on the floor with our hands on her belly. She is less than a week away to her due date and getting excited.

One week from her due date and feeling every kick from her pups

She is also becoming so much more brave as she explores the house, and different smells coming from the kitchen are driving her crazy. Her nose is always in the air smelling the recycling bag for what was in the cans or bottles. Jill is truly becoming a joy to have here, her beautiful questioning face with her big black eyes with her black eyeliner. Jill is so beautiful in her very own special way.

More to come as Jill's due date fast approaches.

Licks & love from FM, Missy & Ali (foster sisters)
