Hello! My name is Malak.

I’m a 2-1/2-year-old lab/golden/collie mix who has returned to RAGOM due to a change in family circumstances. Right now I’m hanging out in a Foster Home in Superior with furfriends Cody and Suzie, Foster Mom and a couple of elusive cats.

Most of my time is spent playing with Cody. He’s a young Golden Retriever who has as much energy as I do. We play chase, tug-of-war, keep away and wrestle-mania. We never get cranky with each other. Foster Mom says I have an excellent disposition.

Here are some of my other good points:

  • Housebroken
  • Crate trained (and quiet when in crate)
  • No resource guarding
  • Takes treats gently
  • Knows basic commands
  • Great cuddling skills; born to love!
  • Compact size—about 55 pounds
  • Rides well in a car

Now I wouldn’t want you to think I’m one of those snobby “perfect” dogs. I have some room for growth. You see, when I get excited from playtime (or just because I’m so happy to see you), I jump up. Not a big deal for sturdy humans but not the best fit for little kids and probably some seniors. Foster Mom says she’s working on it . . .

Have a great week! See you again soon!

Hey, everybody! It's me, Malak. I'm very excited because today I officially joined the P-C Family. This is our first family portrait. Aren't they great? I can hardly wait to explore my new house and back yard. And next summer I'll be swimming at our lake cabin. I am one lucky dog! See you all at Goldzilla 2016.

Malak is starting to wonder if winter is ever going to end and if his Forever Family is ever going to find him! Just look at that sad face! How can you resist? He had a blast at the Fargo Meet and Greet and enjoyed being out and about and socializing, and LOVED all of the attention. Of course he found another puppy his size and wanted to play, play, play! He also visited my sister's house last week where there is a dog and 6 cats and he did very well with everyone! He loves to be around people and other pets and is content following us around the house, playing with toys, and getting some good snuggling in! This petite pup is just waiting to meet you!

Well, someone is starting to look very grown up in his new photos! Malak currently weighs about 40 pounds and I think his growth has been slowing down. He is still very active and puppy-like though!  I just love how he holds a tennis ball in his teeth. Our weather has not been conducive to many walks, so Malak has been staying busy playing with other dogs and lots of toys. He still enjoys snuggling in and taking a break now and then. Malak has mastered "sit" and "wait" and we continue to work on mastering "come," "down," and "stay." We also have been working hard on his excitement level when we get home because he is overly happy to see us! We have continued to let him out to go potty at lunch and during the night to keep his kennel dry, but I think eventually his bladder will be able to handle an 8 hour day. Malak does not require much effort in the grooming department, but he did get a bath and nail trimming this week and did really well. He is a pretty easy dog to have around, he likes following us around the house, getting some good pets, and romping in the yard. If you want to see these floppy ears in person, Malak will be at the Fargo Meet-and-Greet on February 9th at the Fargo Petco.

Hey Malak fans! Malak is back! He was returned to RAGOM because his adopter had issues with her living situation. Malak did really well when he was adopted and we were told that  everyone quickly fell in love with him (how can you not?) We were his previous fosters and we were so excited to see this sweet boy again. We gladly took him back and of course he is doing great! We really want to find this guy his Forever Home. Malak is still a puppy at heart and needs obedience training, but he has learned so much since he first entered RAGOM. Malak is good with kids, cats, and other dogs. He does not require a home with a fence or another dog. If you are happy to see that Malak is back, or if you are just noticing him for the first time, we would love to hear from you if you think he would be a good fit for your family!

Merry Christmas, Malak! I hope you find your forever home soon. Love, Patch 10-223  Merry Christmas, Malak! I hope you find your forever home soon. Love, Patch 10-223

Malak has been such a pleasure to have around, I can't figure out why someone hasn't snatched him up yet! He is so excited when we get home and when we have guests, and he settles down nicely after the initial greeting. He is just so happy to have people around and get attention. Everyone that meets him thinks he is a total sweetheart and a great dog, not to mention adorable! You can see in the photos that he likes to lay with his little white paws crossed (perhaps he's praying to find his forever home?). He loves to play with toys and our resident dog, but he knows when it's time to take a break and rest for a while. He still loves to cuddle with people or our resident dog. He spends about 8 hours in the kennel while we are at work and does great, we do let him out at lunch for a potty break. We have been working on the "stay" and "come" commands in the house and he is such a quick learner. We know the perfect family is out there and we can't wait to hear from them soon!

Malak is still doing great and patiently waiting for his Forever Family to find him! He's weighing in at 31 pounds now and still likes to be held like a baby (even though he's getting a little heavy for foster mom). It's hard to believe he was only 13 pounds when we first met him two months ago. He had a rough start in life but has come a long way since then and has adjusted well to the good life. Everyone that meets him says what a nice dog he is and everyone calls him adorable! He is a sweet, social boy and is getting better every day at following commands. Even though he is about 8 months old and has been growing, there's still lots of puppy left in him, so if you're looking for a young dog that's had some training already, Malak just might be perfect for you! Surprisingly, he has done a great job of leaving the Christmas tree alone. Besides carrying around the occasional mitten or sock, he really only chews on dog toys. He still is doing really well riding in the car, he is calm and quiet and is brave enough to jump in and out now. The only time we've heard him bark is when he's trying to get our resident dog to play with him. He still needs to work on walking on a leash, we haven't had much of a chance to work on it with the below zero temperatures. Malak has some presents under our Christmas tree, but he told us all he really wants is a family to call his own.

Malak wants to wish everyone Happy Holidays and wants to show everyone how cute he looks in front of the Christmas tree! Malak was neutered on Monday and everything went well (you would never know he just had surgery). This means that he is officially ready to find his Forever Family! He is such a sweet boy, any family would be lucky to have him! He is now up to 24.6 pounds and is definitely getting longer and taller. Malak does not seem too impressed with the temperature here in Fargo. He is not really interested in going outside right now unless it is to go potty. He prefers to play in the house and snuggle with our resident Golden to stay warm. He still has an accident in the house every now and then, but he has learned to go to the back door to ask to go out. He's an active puppy, but he's pretty easy to have around. Let your placement advisor know if you want to meet this sweet guy!

This week Malak went to the vet to see if he is ready to be neutered-and he is! His surgery is scheduled for December 9 (how great would it be to find him a forever home by Christmas?!) and he now weighs 21.5 pounds. The vet estimates that when he is full grown, he will be in the 50-60 lb. range, but could be as small as 40 lbs. He has lost all of his puppy teeth and is well on his way to becoming a big boy!

Malak does great in the car. We have taken him on several 60 mile long journeys and he seems to enjoy life on the open road. We are also getting him used to the typical ‘floppy eared dog grooming routine’-cleaning ears, brushing teeth, trimming nails, getting brushed, etc…he tolerates all the activities just fine. We continue to work on basic obedience and he is learning that the best way to get attention is not by jumping up on people.

He is a very easy going dog that can fit into most situations. Although his forever home would not require another dog, we think he would enjoy having other pets or kids around to be his buddy. Every person he meets instantly loves his little white feet and big floppy ears. He loves playing with toys and is quickly catching on that if he brings the ball back, he gets to go chase it again!

If you think Malak sounds like a good fit for your family and are looking for a slightly older puppy that has a head start on training and is smart, playful and affectionate, contact your placement adviser.

Hi Everyone!

Malak came and visited temp foster mom again for a week while his foster home was on vacation :) He has been back in Perham (temporarily) with his brother Cruz for the last week and we were so happy to see him again! After them being sick, it's so great to see how well they are both doing and how different they are :) Malak came back to our house like he had never left. Him and Cruz play non stop....seriously....non stop. haha! The first night he was back they kept bouncing off of foster mom on the bed while playing. Lights out didn't stop these boys! Eventually they settled down.

Malak is just a sweet puppy. He has come a long way and gained a great amount of weight and is looking so much better. Believe me, it is HARD to resist this face! People should be beating down the door to get this little guy! He is super smart, his foster home has worked on him sitting before he gets his food and he does it every time now! He get's along great with all of our dogs and they all eat together without a problem. Also share toys and wrestle :) He LOVES to cuddle, as you can see in the attached picture ;)

He likes to bark sometimes when he is trying to get another dog to play with him. He is too cute.

When we first met him he was shy. Now he has no problem running up to people to get pet :) Even if they are dressed in full orange! As long as he is getting some lovin' he is good!

He leaves today to go back to his foster home, but we loved watching him again while his foster home was on vacation. Seriously, how can anyone resist his face?! He has so much love to share with a very lucky home!

Kid tested and approved! Malak spent some time with our 9-year old niece this weekend and he did great! He followed her around, laid on her lap, and wasn’t scared at all! Like all puppies, he still is learning it is not ok to bite or jump up on kids or adults, but he is very friendly and just wants to play with everyone. He is doing great with the ‘sit’ and ‘wait’ commands. Our niece gave him his supper and he listened when she told him to ‘sit’ and ‘wait’ before he could start eating. Malak also went to a birthday party with a bunch of people and another dog and did well with everyone. He loves to greet people and get pets, but then he likes to explore! He is enjoying playing with other dogs, however, I think he would do well in a home with or without another dog.

Malak has made huge strides this week in the potty training department! He only had one accident this week, mostly because we didn’t get outside quick enough when he woke up. Malak has been sleeping quietly in his crate at night from about 10:00 pm to 5:30 am without any accidents. Malak also stays in a crate when we are at work, and foster dad has been coming home at lunch for a potty break because it is tough to hold it for that long when you are just a puppy! Malak went for a couple walks this week and seemed to really enjoy getting out and exploring. He is confused about wearing a leash, but puppies just need some time to get used to wearing one. He’ll need some training of course, but since he is small he is usually lagging behind on the leash, for now J

Malak has also been gaining some more weight! According to our scale, he is weighing in at 20 pounds! He doesn’t seem to have those huge puppy paws though, so we are guessing he will be smaller than average. Pretty soon he will be able to be neutered and start living with his forever family, but he is still looking for the right family for him! A family that will love his cute floppy ears, his white front paws, and his adorable tail that rarely stops moving. Who wouldn’t love those things?! He needs a family that will continue to work on puppy training, but he is off to a great start! And don’t forget, he LOVES to snuggle!

11/4/13: (Malak's initial bio entry)

We would like to introduce Malak to RAGOM. Malak is a 5 month old male Golden Retriever/Lab/Collie mix who is a playful puppy that loves to snuggle! He is one of 8 dogs that came into RAGOM from a hoarding situation in North Dakota where he lived outside and was only fed corn/grains every 3-4 days. When we first met him he was very skinny, scared, and not acting like a normal, healthy puppy. He was taken to the vet the next day by another foster mom and we found out he and some of the other dogs were testing positive for Parvovirus. Malak stayed with his littermate, Cruz, at another foster’s house for two weeks to isolate the virus and give them time to recover. Unfortunately, a couple of the other puppies didn’t survive. There is no treatment for Parvo, so the foster mom had to make sure they were eating and drinking well so they wouldn’t get dehydrated, and also gave them antibiotics to prevent any other infections.

We have had Malak for over a week now, and he is doing so much better and is symptom free. He is no longer the scared, sick puppy but is now an active, happy, sweet puppy! Parvo continues to be present in his body and diminishes over time and is also still present in his stools. However, Parvo is no risk to a healthy, vaccinated adult dog. Malak has adjusted well to life at our house and gets along great with our resident Golden who is almost 4 years old. Malak initially didn’t seem to enjoy going outside, but now is excited to hang out outside in our fenced yard, do his business, and play with our dog.

Malak only weighed 13.8 lbs. when he was rescued, but he has gained at least 3 lbs. and eats like a champ. The vet said a healthy weight for him would be around 23 lbs. Since he had not had any training, we are working on the typical puppy training routine. He is getting the hang of going to the bathroom outside, but has an occasional accident and has a harder time holding it in his crate when he is in there for longer periods of time (at night, when we are at work), but this is to be expected because he is still quite young and doesn’t have the bladder capacity yet.  He doesn’t mind going in his crate (as long as he gets treats), but he is anxious to get out of it when we get home or wake up. Otherwise, he doesn’t whine or bark while he is in the crate. He is also quickly learning how to sit and wait when he is told. Learning not to jump up on people and not to play bite is a work in progress, as with any puppy. He has not been around cats or kids yet, but he loves all people so far and seeks out their attention. I think he would easily adjust to any loving home.

The vet would like to wait until the end of November to think about neutering Malak to allow him time to gain weight and recover from Parvo. Malak will not be able to go to his Forever Home until he is neutered and recovers from the surgery, but he is available to meet potential adopters. If you are looking for a sweet, smart, outgoing puppy that likes to curl up next to you, Malak is your guy!
