I've been delaying sending this update on Kodi because I just couldn't bear to actually write it. As a foster, you always hope to write a happy, cheerful last update because your beloved foster dog has gone on to a forever home. Sometimes that just isn't meant to be, especially when you foster senior dogs like Kodi. We had to say goodbye to our sweet girl much sooner than we were hoping, as she lost her battle with gastrointestinal lymphoma.
Kodi's last few weeks were filled with lots of treats, toys and soft beds, and lots and lots of love. She still enjoyed going for a short jaunt out in the yard and the occasional roll in the grass, but it was clear she was slowing down as she spent the majority of her time sleeping and she was losing weight, as well as having some issues getting up and down. She had a really great day on Saturday, with multiple rolls in the grass, a drink from the pool, and she even stuck a curious paw into the big toy box in the living room, digging for a toy. However, on Sunday she refused her breakfast and it just seemed that her energy was gone. We tried to coax her to eat all day Sunday but she just wasn't interested and we knew it was time to let her go. Monday we treated her to a breakfast of bacon, eggs, and toast, which she ate with some coaxing. She spent a quiet morning with her foster family snuggling with her and telling her just how much she was loved. She enjoyed a Dairy Queen puppy cup topped with bacon to give her strength for her journey, and then she went peacefully to join her beloved foster brother Tobi at the Bridge. I know they are causing all kinds of trouble and raiding all of the cookie jars, together. Kodi's foster family would like to thank her sponsor and everyone who followed her page and donated in her name. We miss Kodi more than we know how to say, but we didn't want her to suffer. She was too sweet of a girl for that. Godspeed, our sweet Kodi, with a heart over the i in your name because you are so darned sweet. We love you. |
