Cinnamon 13-153

Profile

Please welcome Cinnamon into the RAGOM world. Cinnamon is one of the puppies from Mary Sue 13-118 born on May 19, 2013. She, along with her 8 brothers and sisters, was born in Kentucky before her mama could be brought to Minnesota. Cinnamon has some Golden Retriever in her since Mary Sue is a Golden mix, we just are not sure how much as her father is unknown.

Cinnamon is a dark brown and black cutie with some light brown on her feet and around her neck. She is a little snuggler and likes to be picked up for hugs. She is hard to tell apart from her brother Drake 13-154 and sister Wren 13-149. Cinnamon has less black on her back than Drake and only one white front foot where Wren has two. At her 4-week checkup, Cinnamon weighed in at 3.56 lbs. In the pile of puppies picture, she is on the far right with her ear flipped.

We will keep you updated as this little girl’s personality comes out and she begins to explore the world.

Updates

Friday, May 29, 2015

We are long overdue on an update for Cinnamon.  It was her 2nd birthday on May 19th and we had a party that weekend complete with meatloaf cake and all of her hairy friends.  Happy Birthday baby girl!!  I cannot believe we have already had her for 2 years.  Time has been flying and at the same time she is such a part of our lives it is hard to remember life before our Minnie girl.  The hardest part about this update is trying to narrow down the pictures that I want to send in :).

Cinnamon has been a wonderful addition to our family.  She is a bright and happy girl who gives us all of her loves and face kisses very freely.  She and Sammy have continued to bond and have become great friends and playmates, which is something we never expected of Sam and are so glad that the girls get along.  Cinnamon has also been a good foster sister.  I am mostly talking about Jimmy 14-178 who has been with us for close to 1/3 of her life and seems to love Cinnamon and vice versa.  Our lives are pretty centered around the dogs and they go almost everywhere with us except for work.  Cinnamon started swimming at a very young age and still loves it.  She jumps into the pool or lake at the cabin with great enthusiasm.  Cinnamon has gone through several layers of obedience training but seems to shine in agility.  We just started level 2/3 and she is having a blast.  I have to try hard to keep up with her.

She did slow down and give us a very big scare this past Christmas.  Cinnamon ended up having exploratory surgery when she stopped eating and was barely able to move.  The vet did x-rays and barium testing but wasn’t able to see any blockage.  Cinnamon kept getting worse and the decision was made to see if they could find something not showing up on the tests.  When they went in part of her small intestine was pale and hardy moving – by the time they were done it was pink again.  We still don’t know what happened with her – she either ate something that passed through and really messed her up or she had a partial torsion of her small intestine which would be a total fluke and really rare.  That was an incredibly scary (and expensive) time and we are all so happy that she pulled through and is her normal smiling self.

I have included 13 pictures with this update (thank you Happy Ending RAGOM team!!!) – and this was slowly narrowed down from 30 or so that I wanted to send.

  • I have included pictures of her as a puppy up at the cabin because she was just so stinkin’ cute – this is the first day that she swam in the lake.
  • There is a picture from her first birthday party with Sammy, Cinnamon, Lucy and Benny the Shih Tzu all wearing their party hats.  All of the dogs were staring at the meatloaf cake being held by the camera.
  • Cinnamon the Bumble Bee was her first Halloween costume and she was a lion last year.  The dogs love their costumes.  When we pull them out they all run over to try and get it put on them first – they know they are cute and prance around in them.  They get to go for a walk in their costumes on Halloween and you can tell they are extra happy and love the attention from the kids we walk by.
  • I have an action shot of Cinnamon jumping off the dock at the cabin.  She is fearless when it comes to getting in the water – more so than the other Goldens.
  • A picture of Cinnamon and her sister Cora (formerly Dozer 13-151).  Cora came down to visit and holy cow do they look alike.  Cora was very light as a puppy and Cinnamon was dark – they found the middle ground and look so similar.  It was very cool to see.
  • There are 3 pictures with Cinnamon and some of the fosters in her life.  The small black dog is Trackr 14-306.  He was fostered by my parents and Cinnamon spent a lot of time with him and they were great wrestle buddies.  Cinnamon was gentle with him since he was just a baby.  Then there is Jimmy 14-178 running up our backyard hill this winter with Cinnamon hot on his heels.  They are great friends and companions.  We will probably have him for a while longer so I am glad they are friends.  And finally little baby Gus 15-035.  We only had him for a week and 2 days.  I think a hyper puppy was more than Cinnamon was counting on but he was still fun to have around.
  • And then two of my favorite pictures of our Minnie girl.  One of her in the garden and the other of her in the backyard with Sammy.  I love my girls!

We never thought we would end up with anything other than another pure breed Golden Retriever, but this little mutt baby has changed our mind completely.  She is the best girl we could have asked for and I don’t think it is possible for us to love her more.  I get to wake up each morning with her trying to lick my face and snuggle me after my alarm goes off so she can get breakfast talking to us the whole time letting us know how eager she is to start the day.  There is just something about her.  I will try to send another update before 2 more years is up :).

Hi Guys – this is Cinnamon!  I wanted to tell you all about my new life.  I am having so much fun!!  Mama thought I might be a little disorientated once all of my brothers and sisters left, but I did just fine.  I still had my big sister Sammy!  She plays with me all of the time.  My family was really surprised since she normally doesn’t like to play much, but we play tug all the time and we wrestle and run and she is even willing to let me play with her stuffed animals.  She let me have her favorite dolphin!  She normally wants to stop playing before I am ready and will go hide behind mama.  That is where Aunt Lucy comes in.  She is almost 2 but she still acts like she is a puppy.  I get to go over to grandma and grandpa’s house and play with her until I get to tired.  Mama brings me over all the time for play dates.

I also have learned to swim at their house.  They have an underground pool, and my family told me that even if I didn’t want to swim I still needed to know how to get out of the pool in case Aunt Lucy or Sammy accidently (or on purpose) knocked me in.  Turns out that swimming is fun and mama said I am a natural.  I haven’t splashed once and love to chase a ball while swimming.  I have even started jumping off the sides – it is so much fun.  I also like to swim up at the cabin!  I don’t chase balls there, but I do chase the other dogs.  Uncle Benny (the Shih Tzu) is frantic about his tennis balls and I will swim after him when he goes out swimming after them.  I am officially bigger than him now too – it didn’t take very long.

I just got my final vaccination for puppies and I am up to 23 pounds.  The vet said that with how big my feet are and how I have been growing she would be surprised if I was smaller than 50 pounds when I am done growing, but who knows.  People keep asking mama if I am a little Lassie dog, so I must look like a Collie.  My mom (Mary Sue) was supposed to be a Golden/Collie mix after all.

Mama says that my training has been going really well.  I have hardly had any accidents in the house and those were only in the first week after everyone else went to their new homes.  I am good about barking at the door to go in and out and really like to spend time out in the back yard with Sammy.  We have been catching mice like crazy out there.  They sure are fun to play with.  Mama says I am a better mouser than the cats.  I have ‘sit’, ‘down’, and ‘come’ down really well and I almost have ‘wait’/’stay’ down too.  I think Sammy needs a little more work on the last one when it comes to dinner time.  Mama says I am really smart and catch on very quickly (except with ‘shake’ – daddy just cannot seem to get me to do that) and I do a lot by example from the big dogs.  I just finished puppy kindergarten and had so much fun there.  It was a class for dogs under six months so I was on the small/young side, but I have been told that I am feisty.  Puppy play time is the best!   There is a little French bulldog name Frankie that I have become friends with.  She is a lot feistier than me but I sure do have fun running after her.

I got to go to Goldzilla this year and I was able to see a couple of my brothers and sisters.  Everyone is getting really big.  It was great to see them.  Mama still thinks that I have changed the most since I used to be dark brown and now I look like a little golden.  I am just glad that everyone there recognized me.  I hope you enjoy the pictures of me being cute!  I will keep you updated as I grow up.  Life as a RAGOM dog is pretty great.

It turns out that Cinnamon was home all along. We had been working with a family that ended up adopting a puppy outside of RAGOM and when we learned that, we decided that there was no way we could let her go. As our newest resident dog, Cinnamon is going to have to stop calling Sammy “Aunt,” but that shouldn’t be a problem. Seeing her and her siblings grow up has been such a special experience, and I am glad that we will get to help her along the rest of the journey. I hope that she will get to see some of her brothers and sisters again – we are looking forward to seeing what all of these little guys grow up to be.

Hi – this is Cinnamon! Foster mom (FM) is letting me write my own update today. She says that there are so many of us to keep straight that it is best for us to tell our own stories (plus I think she wants a nap). We have all been super busy. I like all of the hustle and bustle and am getting bolder all the time.

I was really looking forward to this Wednesday. FM told me all about this big adventure, but it turns out that it is just the vet. I am going to get my six-week checkup and a booster shot. Aunt Sammy, the dog that lives here all the time, said that we should get treats at the vet. But I don’t even know if we will get a treat since we are so small. Maybe it will be fun. I bet there will be lots of new people to play with. I am always up for playing.

Speaking of which, there were lots of people that came over this weekend to play with us. I did lots of tail wagging and gave out a bunch of puppy kisses, but I haven’t found my forever home yet. I don’t know why nobody wants to take me home – I like everybody! And people wearing flip-flops are the best! Toes are great to chew on. You shouldn’t let this stop you from wanting to take me home – I am just a puppy and FM says I will grow out of it. Plus, I will chew on a rope or anything else you give me instead. I just want to be near you. FM says I give good hellos – I jump up and want to lick your face. I like being snuggled and being able to see the world from up high. I am pretty content if you are walking around with me in your arms.

Mom and Aunt Sammy will play with me too. Aunt Sammy plays tug-o-war with sticks that we find in the yard. She always wins. I don’t know if I will grow up to be as big as her. FM says that Drake, Wren and I are the smallest of everyone. I tell her that means we are easier to snuggle with, but it also means that she calls me Cinna-Minnie most of the time.

I had lots of firsts this weekend. We spent most of it outside since it was so nice. This was fine as we had lots of room to run (FM says we are getting speedy), and then we could take naps in the sun after we wore each other out. There were some scary things this weekend too, like a lawn mower and a bunch of big dog barks from next door. And foster grandpa was lying on a blanket with us outside and he let out a big fake snore. I jumped up and almost did a flip in the air. It was super scary, but I won’t let him trick me again.

I would really like to find a home of my own with some people to give kisses to and play with. FM says we don’t know what I will grow up to be, but she says I sure am sweet now and will make somebody a great new family member. If you think I might be a good puppy for you, then you should come find me (I am not allowed to leave the yard to find you).
