Bo has only been with me a couple days but I wanted to get his handsome face up on the website. I will really enjoy getting to know him this week.

Bo spent Sunday taking a road trip from Iowa to Minnesota. He made his introductions to my resident dog and proceeded to make himself at home.

Bo is 10 years old and has the sweetest face and disposition. How can you not fall in love with that face!

Bo loves people, bonds quickly and will follow me everywhere. Bo will be going to the vet on Friday to get updated on his vaccinations and to have a large lump on his front leg checked out that is interfering with his walking.

Bo went to the groomer today and he is so soft and smells so nice. When Bo got home from the groomer, he felt so much better (many mats were shaved off) that he did a happy dance and a little run in the yard. He is just a cute little man.

There are two things that I know Bo will need in his forever home. Bo needs very little steps in his home. He can do 1 or 2 steps but more than 2 will be difficult for him. Bo also needs to be able to sleep next to your bed. Bo needs to be close to his people.

Please think positive thoughts for Bo when he goes to the vet on Friday.

More on Bo as I get to know him.

Love from the Valgemae Goldens Love from the Valgemae Goldens

Merry Christmas from Santa to the Golden Seniors! Merry Christmas from Santa to the Golden Seniors!

Monday, January 12, 2015

I hope everyone had a wonderful New Year’s and are looking forward to a great 2015. Bo would love to find his forever family this year. I know he is a senior, but he has so much love to give. He really just wants a family to hang out with and call his own. He’s a very easy dog to have around since his favorite pastimes are eating, sleeping, and rolling around in the snow. Lucky for Bo, he has plenty of that “white stuff” this year and with these temperatures, it’s probably not going away any time soon!! If Bo could talk, he would say, “A good day rolling in the snow is a good day!” Bo is your typical Velcro Golden and really just wants to hang out with people.

Bo continues to be on Zonisamide for his seizures. The seizures are a bit unpredictable. He can go a couple of months without one, then he’ll have several in a short amount of time, then a few weeks will pass again before another one. For now, he will stay on the Zonisamide and see how it goes. Bo also saw a neurologist because his hind legs seem to fall out from under him sometimes. The neurologist thinks he might have a spinal cord issue, which is causing this, so we have a bunch of throw rugs around the house to help him keep his footing. When outside, he can still run a short distance, but sometimes falls when he tries to make turns. On his good days, he likes to run to the back of the yard and back to the door. Even though this can cause him to be a bit out of breath, he is a dog with some amazing determination.

Bo is a special boy for sure. He would do great with someone who doesn’t leave for long periods of time, so he can get his potty breaks. If you’re a homebody and looking to have a sweet companion around all the time, Bo might be your guy. Please contact your placement advisor if you’d like to meet this lovable guy.

Bo wants to wish everyone a Happy New Year.

Bo is going to celebrate by playing in the snow, making snow angels, and having a special New Year's Eve dinner of hamburger, rice, carrots, and a special secret treat from foster mom.

HAVE A FUN AND SAFE NEW YEAR'S EVE.

Tuesday, November 18, 2014

Bo wants to welcome everyone to an early winter. Rolling in the snow is one of his favorite things, although he could do without the cold winds.

Bo apologizes for his lack of updates. Bo has had a rough couple of months on his new meds for seizures, so hasn't felt up to doing much of anything. He was put on zonisamide along with his phenobarbital to help curtail the frequency of his seizures. I am happy to report that Bo has not had a seizure since he began these meds in September.

I was told that it would take about 3 weeks for Bo to regulate this medicine in his system and there may be side effects. Within a few days, the Zonisamide took its toll on my sweet Bo. He became lethargic and confused, lost his appetite, and his back legs became so weak that he would continually fall over when he tried to walk. Bo is very strong-willed and would continue to try to walk no matter how many times he would fall. It broke my heart watching him, especially when he looked at me with those big brown eyes, waiting for me to help him up, so confused as to what was happening to him.

Fast forward to November and Bo is starting to walk better, eat better as long as I put some canned food in his kibble, and his zest for life is back. He still has some weakness in his left back leg and will slip and fall from time to time, but this may be from his age and arthritis. I have a doggie sock with rubber on the bottom that I put on his back leg when he is in the house to help with slipping.

With all that has happened with Bo, he has always made sure he is right next to me looking for some lovin'.

Bo would love to have a quiet family of his own who would love him with all his little quirks, be committed to helping him stay seizure-free, and help him at those times when his little legs decide to give him trouble.

Bo wants to thank everyone who supported RAGOM on Give to the Max day. All the generous donations makes it possible to keep Bo on the phenobarbitol, zonisamide, and carpofen he needs to control his seizures and help him live a happy, seizure-free life.

Bo had such a good time at Goldzilla, meeting so many wonderful people and eating lots of treats.

Bo wants to send lots of slobbery kisses to Chuck, Kara, Karin, Ann, and Beau for making him feel so special by donating a paw at Goldzilla. Bo also wants to thank his friend Lynda S for taking such a great picture at Goldzilla for his latest update.

Bo has had a rough couple of weeks, so donations for his medical care is very much appreciated. Bo's seizures started to come more frequently, so he had an ultrasound to make sure his liver was OK and also went to visit a neurologist. We added potassium bromide along with his pheno to help curtail his seizures, but Bo is having some side effects. His hind legs are very weak and painful, and he is pretty lethargic. The neurologist and his vet decided to changed the potassium bromide to different meds, hoping the side effects will lessen. These new meds are a lot more expensive than the potassium bromide, so all donations are appreciated.

The good news is that since Bo has been on these meds, he has not had a seizure. It really is hard to be an older gentleman, but Bo still does a wobbly hop, fall, hop, fall to the fence to bark at anyone walking by.

This is Bo's favorite time of year, so please send positive thoughts that Bo acclimates to his new meds soon so he can enjoy rolling in the leaves and making his snow angels when that white stuff starts falling.

I can't believe the Minnesota State Fair is two weeks away. This summer has flown by so quickly. Bo has enjoyed the cooler summer weather this year, especially the cool mornings with the wet grass. He just loves to roll in the wet grass and then come into the house to get wiped down with a towel.

Bo is a go-with-the-flow kind of guy, but needs to be with his people. Bo will spend a small amount of time outside by himself, but will rarely stay outside if I am not out there with him. He sticks his little face in the screen door and just stares inside with those big brown eyes until I let him in. He would not do well being left out in the yard without his peeps.

Bo has had an increase in seizures this summer. A pattern of one seizure every 14-19 days has developed. His last seizure was a small one and he came out of it very quickly. He was running in the yard within an hour. I am updating his vet every time he has a seizure to see if we have to increase his phenobarbital. Seizures are scary to watch at first, but Bo takes them in stride and doesn't let them take away from his enjoyment of life.

I know there is a family out there who will see how sweet and special this handsome guy is, enjoy his silly antics, and give him the love he so deserves.

He melts my heart every time he looks up at me with those big brown eyes.

Saturday, June 7, 2014

Bo continues to be a sweet Velcro guy. I have such a hard time saying no to those big brown eyes.

His morning ritual is to wake me up at 5 a.m. with his nose on the bed and his tail pounding against the wall. We wake his foster sister up, and they go outside where Bo does his business, rolls in the grass, and then takes a jog around the yard. I can't help but laugh when Bo comes bounding onto the deck with that wet head. I think he does it because he likes to get rubbed down with the towel.

Now he is ready for his breakfast. He is very impatient while waiting for his food and will dance around. He will lay down when I tell him to stop dancing and be patient, but sometimes I think he taps his front left paw when he thinks I'm taking too long to prepare their food.

Bo loves to be with people and follows me from room to room. He is a very easy foster who really loves life.

I did have to increase his pheno meds because he had a few days of seizures. There is no pattern for his seizures. He has gone for 4 months without a seizure and also has had them a month apart. Once he comes around after the seizure, he is the same old happy-go-lucky pup.

While on walks, I started to notice he drags one of his paws so I hear his nails dragging, but it doesn't seem to bother him. His head is in the air just taking in the scenery.

If you are looking for a sweet senior boy who will be your constant companion, if you have a yard for him to explore, and if you have few stairs in your home, Bo is your boy.

Please contact your placement advisor to meet this sweet guy.

Finally, spring weather is here!!!!!

Bo has thoroughly enjoyed all the snow and even some of the cold weather, but he is in heaven with the sunshine. He loves laying on the snow piles and making his snow angels. I wish he would stand still long enough for me to get a picture of him with a face full of snow, but he is camera shy and turns away from me when he sees the camera.

Bo continues to be a very sweet boy. He gets along with all dogs as long as there are proper introductions. He does a lot of talking when he is excited or hungry which sounds like he growling at you, but it's his sweet way of communicating.

Bo gives the best hugs and melts right into you. He lives to love you and will always be your shadow. Your heart will melt when he puts his face in your lap and looks up at you with such love and trust in those big eyes.

Please let placement know if you are interested in this sweet boy.

Saturday, February 1, 2014

Wow, did you see that Bo has a sponsor? Thank you Sheila P. for thinking that Bo is pretty special. Bo sends you a big hug and a thank you.

Bo has been having the best time with all this snow. Snow drifts taller than he is does not stop him from trying to forge through. He comes in the house full of snow from head to toe after making his snow angels.

The cold weather is putting a damper on his playing, but he still goes out in the morning and makes his run around the yard. He is not fond of his boots, but they sure help when it is -20 out there.

Bo has been busy making sure the workers remodeling my kitchen are doing their job properly. Of course, he thinks all the workers coming in and out are there to play with him. With the cold weather, we are all a little bored, so the workers give Bo something to focus on and helps with the boredom.

We finally have a nice sunny day, so we were out playing ball this morning. Bo loves to chase the ball, but still argues a bit about letting go. We don't play long in the cold since he starts breathing so hard. He loves running, but, like most of us, he pays for the fun later on.

Bo continues to be a sweet boy who is my shadow. He is sleeping at my feet right now snoring away. Playing in the snow wears a guy out.

Bo still needs a family with no small kids and someone who can work around his snarkiness over treats and bones. He isn't food aggressive; he just likes to be left alone when eating, chewing bones or treats. Bo was around my 1 1/2-year-old nephew at Thanksgiving and was fine with him. We just didn't let them be together near food and I kept treats put away. Are you the family for Bo? Please let placement know if you would like to meet this sweet guy.

Enjoy the pictures of Bo playing with his ball in the snow.

Sunday, December 29, 2013

Thank you to Cooper, Bauer, Betty, and Santa for feeling Bo is so special that you gave him a holiday icon.

His Christmas wish for a forever family didn't come true, but he is happy where he is and knows that his forever family is trying really hard to find him.

Bo had a great time with the nice weather this week and wanted to show you what a tease he is. Bo is an expert at stealing the tennis balls and smiles when he gets away with the ball.

Bo hopes everyone has a happy and safe New Year's Eve.

Tuesday, November 26, 2013

Bo wants to wish everyone a happy and safe Thanksgiving.

He is very grateful for his treats and as you can see from the picture, he has decided he needs to keep his toes warm as he waits for his treats. His toes under the rug has become a daily ritual.

Happy Thanksgiving, everyone!!

Monday, October 28, 2013

Happy Halloween to all Bo's followers.

Bo is thoroughly enjoying this cool weather and is a great help holding the leaves down until I can pick them up.

Bo loves going to the meet and greets and was a bit disappointed when he didn't make it to the Edina meet and greet a few weeks ago. He was on his way, but foster mom got caught up in traffic. We spent 2 hours on I-494, which frustrated foster mom, but Bo loved being in the car and entertaining people in the cars next to us.

Bo is such an easy foster and so loveable. He melts my heart when he puts his head on my lap and looks up with those big brown eyes. He rarely leaves my side and gets a lot of exercise following me from room to room.

Bo had a seizure a couple weeks ago, so we increased his phenobarbitol to help regulate his seizures. It has been 6 months since his first seizure, so the pheno is doing its job. I hope his seizures do not scare you away from Bo. I just sit with Bo as he goes through his seizure and make sure he stays away from stairs until he gets his balance back.

Bo is such a sweet soul who would love to find an adult-only home to love him and understand his need to be left alone when he eats or has anything to chew.

I still give Bo marrow bones to chew outside, but know once he takes it out of my hand, he needs to be left alone until he is done with the bone. He gives a great warning snarl if you get close.

Bo is not a big barker. He doesn't bark when he is ready to come inside. Instead, he will stand by the patio door and give you that "where are you" look until you open the door. He will bark when someone comes to the door or when someone walks by the house, but he only barks a few barks.

I have listed the prerequisites for a forever family in previous updates. Bo is a young 10-year-old who thoroughly enjoys life and is happy just to be with his peeps.

Please contact placement if you want a dog with the sweetest face who will love you unconditionally.

Sunday, August 4, 2013

Look at this sweet, sweet smile. Bo attended the meet and greet at Gander Mountain on Saturday and enjoyed all the attention and sratches he received.

Bo has been with me since May and has been one of the easiest fosters I have had. He is very well-behaved, loves his walks and loves chasing the ball. He is getting better at giving me the ball and will let me know if it takes too long to throw it. I tell him he sounds like an old hound dog when he barks at me.

Bo is very proud of his daily hygiene routine. He runs outside in the morning, does his business and then takes his daily bath in the grass. I try not to laugh at him but he is just too cute when he comes in with a wet head. I think he does it because he loves it when I dry him off with the towel.

Bo is my little watch dog. He lets everyone who walks by the house know that he is watching them. He is not obsessive about barking and will stop when I tell him to quit.

Bo does have a little stubborn side. There are times when I have called him and the RD inside, and Bo will walk to the edge of the deck and just stand there. The RD will come inside and I will need to shut the door and walk away. Bo will then come up onto the deck and want to come inside.

Bo is a quiet little man in the house. He does need to be in the same room with me and will wake up from a sound sleep to move to a different room with me. Bo has never tried to get on the furniture and is content to sleep close to me. He has such a silly personality I just can't help giving him hugs and kisses.

Bo continues to need the following:

  • Very few stairs.
  • Sleep next to your bed.
  • Fenced yard so he can roam and explore.
  • No children or older children.
  • Can be an only dog but would like a companion dog.
  • Previously lived with a cat.
  • Good staying home alone for a few hours.
  • Cannot be gated away from the family for a long period of time. Bo needs to be with his people.
  • A family committed to giving him his daily medicine:
  1. Phenobarbital for seizures - 1/2 tab twice a day.
  2. Eye drop in his right eye - 1x a day.
  3. Rimadyl - when necessary.
  • Cannot exercise 1 hr before or 1 hr after eating
  • Anal glands need to be expressed when necessary

Bo is a sweet, energetic 10-year-old who will melt your heart when you watch him run his little "bunny" run with that big smile on his face and the love in his eyes.

Please contact placement if you want unconditional love on a daily basis.

Tuesday, July 23, 2013

Bo is resting up on his new blanket made by RAGOM volunteer Joan H. for his appearance at the meet and greet this Sunday at the Edina Chuck and Don's.

Saturday, June 22, 2013

Mr. Personality continues to be the sweetest boy. He loved meeting everyone last weekend at the Edina Chuck and Don's. Bo doesn't like to get his picture taken, but Bo thought Devon T was very ingenious getting the great shots of him that she did. She has some pretty interesting noises to get his attention.

With the storms last night, I found out that Bo definitely needs a home with very few stairs. At one point, I decided we needed to hit the basement, and Bo had a hard time going down the stairs and he didn't want to go up the stairs. His back end just doesn't do well on stairs. Even with 1 step leading off my deck, Bo will drag his back leg down the stairs and prefers to jump off the side of the deck.

Bo loves to walk but won't walk in a straight line. He weaves back and forth in front of his foster sister. She thinks he is such goofball. Both dogs get very stiff after walking, so we don't go very far, maybe a 1/2 mile. Bo does get a 1/2 tablet of Rimadyl when I feel he needs it.

Bo gives himself a bath every morning before breakfast on the wet grass. He is in his glory when he can just roll around in the grass and enjoy the sunshine.

Bo has not had a seizure since he first arrived in foster care, so the pheno is doing its job. Bo is very good about all his medication. Our ritual is his pheno pill with peanut butter after breakfast, a drop of medicine in his eye for his cataract, and then a biscuit. He does get impatient if I don't come back with his pill and eye drops when He is ready for them.

Now that he is healed Bo loves to chase balls and is getting better at dropping the tennis ball as long as another dog isn't around. He is still very adament about not giving up a valued treat. Even a hotdog wouldn't get a chewy away from him. This means he cannot be adopted to a family with small children. He did, though, drop a baby bird he picked up that had fallen from its nest when I told him to drop it.

Sweet Bo is still a Velcro dog and follows me everywhere. He puts up with my hugs and kisses, and will sit up on his hind legs so I can scratch under his arms. He is an easy foster who asks for nothing but love.

Look at that face and know that he is just as sweet as that face.

Please contact placement if you want to meet this gentle boy.

Thursday, June 13, 2013

Bo is doing great. He is all healed up from his surgery, hasn't had a seizure in weeks and had his eye appointment today to check his cataract.

Bo does see shadows with his right eye and his left eye is clear which is very good. Bo will need a drop of medicine in the eye with the cataract every day for the rest of his life to help control any inflammation that may occur. This is very inexpensive.

Bo enjoyed his time at the Mahtomedi meet and greet so he decided he wanted to go to the Edina meet and greet this Saturday for a little while.

Please come out and meet this sweet camera shy boy.

Sunday, May 19, 2013

Bo was assigned to the entertainment committee for the last week. First, he had to keep everyone happy on Mother's Day, and then he had to entertain an overnight guest, RAGOM adoptee Diesel. He is an awesome host.

Bo is also the keeper of the garden and takes his job seriously. He will not let any of those pesky rabbits near my garden.

Today, he was standing next to my fence and was staring at what I think was nothing. When I went over to him and asked him what he was staring at, he started with his "woo hoo" bark. I couldn't see anything, but he stood there and stared for awhile and then decided he'd go play with the resident diva, Smoozer, which lasts about 30 seconds.

Since regulating the pheno he takes for seizures, he has been a peppy 10-year-old rolling around in the grass, running and hopping around the yard like a little pup and enjoying life. He is such a happy boy. When you meet him, he will melt your heart.

On Wednesday, Bo will be going in to have a lump removed, and if there is time he will have his teeth cleaned. He wants a beautiful smile when he meets his forever family.

Please keep Bo in your thoughts on Wednesday.

Thursday, May 9, 2013

Bo continues to be the sweetest boy. It has been hard to get pictures of him since he is camera shy. He will turn away and get far from me when the camera comes out.

Bo had a bit of a stressful weekend. He went to the vet for his shots on Friday, and when we got home, he had a seizure. He later had another seizure, so back to the vet we went. Bo was such a trooper through the whole adventure. Always giving kisses and slowly wagging his tail. Bo was put on pheno to stop the seizures, and this seems to be working since he has not had a seizure since Saturday.

Bo has a hard lump on his left leg and chest which will be removed as soon as we know he is ok from the seizures. Bo is just the go-with-the-flow kind of guy and doesn't seemed fazed by his adventures. He's just one happy guy.

Bo has a cute little huff that he does when he thinks you are not paying enough attention to him. He needs to know where you are at all times and will accompany you to whatever room you go into.

Bo loves to sit outside and roll in the grass. He isn't into playing with stuffed toys or tennis balls but loves his walks. He waddles better than any foster I have ever had.

If you are looking for a cuddler who loves to go on leisurely walks, Bo is your guy.

Please contact placement if you want to meet this handsome, sweet, adorable guy.
