Brewer 11-396

Profile

Hello everyone in RAGOMland! Welcome our newest LOVE Brewer! He is a 4 year old golden mix and he's a well trained boy! He's small, weighing in around 40 pounds, with a few more to gain. He has been through basic obedience and only lived with one family his whole life. They were sad to see him go, but they didn't think he'd do well on their BIG move out to California. He also gets more uneasy around small children, so a home with no children or at least older ones is a must.

Brewer is a slow-to-warm up dog. He was a little skittish and scared for the first few days around here. He is also a bit wary of visitors to the house...This has always been the case, even in his former home. He barks at them and then settles down pretty quickly.

As far as dogs go, Brewer needed a good introduction to our resident dog and seemed rather fearful of her when he first arrived. He did show some teeth and raised shackles, but after the first night they both calmed down and have been buddies since! He definitely likes to chase and run in the yard. He also LOVES to play fetch in the yard! Because he's rather skittish I think he'd do best with a fenced yard. I think he would do well in a house with or without dogs. He would like another calm dog who likes to run and play chase.

Overall, he seems to be a VERY sweet boy. Loveable, smart, doesn't counter surf, small size, crate trained, house trained, and walks well on a leash. Oh wait! AND HANDSOME! What more could you ask for? He's not that 'typical' golden look, but a velcro loving personality, who likes to check on his humans. He also knows when to give you space and can lay on his own. LOVE HIM!

Hello, We are so sad to tell you that our loveable Brewer #11-396 went to the Rainbow Bridge on Saturday June 13th, 2015. He was diagnosed with hyperthyroidism in March of this year but did not respond to meds. An ultrasound could not detect a mass around his thyroid but clearly something was wrong. More meds were tried with mild success but he continued to have symptoms. He was happy and eating a lot (he'd lost a lot of weight) but took a fast turn for the worst on June 10th. He was gone just days later. We suspect he had cancer in his body somewhere by the way he declined so quickly and the symptoms he was having. Unfortunately, we were on vacation during this time and were not able to be there with him in the end. We had no idea when we left that this was coming. The saving grace for us was that he was with his former RAGOM foster, Nicole, and she took care of him as we would have done. We are so incredibly grateful to her for being there with him, comforting him and caring for him. If he would have been with anyone else as he was declining and we were questioning the outcome, we would have come home. She is truly Brewer's angel.

I've probably gone on too long but just returned home today to all of his things and am feeling heartbroken. Brewer was our second RAGOM dog and we will be forever grateful for the time we got with both him and Fergus. Brewer was only 8 and we only had him 3 years. Too soon :-(

Thank you so much for what you do.

Sincerely,

Lezlie and Tom H

Hi Ragom! Wanted to give you an update about our new friend, Brewer.

He is adjusting to our home and we are falling more and more in love with him. We have been enjoying lots of walks, rides in the car, playing LOTS of fetch (inside and out) and meeting new friends at the dog park. He is a very sweet dog and we are so happy to have him as part of our family!

Thanks, RAGOM, for giving us another wonderful dog.

Lezlie and Tom H.
