Nugget 11-033

Profile

Today was a very exciting and exhausting day for me! I started out in Southern Iowa and drove all the way to Mound, Minnesota! I love car rides but this one was a little long! I was a little scared but I am a pretty tough guy! I met my foster mommy in Iowa and drove with her to her home. We drove under overpasses….I tried to catch those! And oncoming cars are just too hard to catch! I guess I need more practice! My new mom called me a “goofball”. I have never heard that word…can anyone tell me what that means?? I am not sure if that is a good thing or not…hmmm….

When we got home, I ran around in the deep snow…dragging my mom behind me. I can’t understand why she can’t keep up! I checked out the whole yard…looks like a wonderful new home for me. Then I got to meet the resident cats. They were all puffed up and looked so pretty! I tried to give them a kiss but they hissed at me.
What is all the fuss about? I just want to play with them! And they have such yummy food!! It smells SO good And I got to show off my good manners today too! Mom was eating some chicken and she told me to “sit” and I immediately sat! I was so proud! And then she gave me a treat…I was so excited I took a big bite! Oops! She is helping me to be more gentle when she gives me treats…I think I understand. But at least I sit when I am told to!

I am getting tired now…but I really want to keep exploring! Oh yeah…forgot to tell you…the neighbor girl came over to meet me. She is SO sweet!! I gave her a big kiss! She rubs my tummy and my ears…I just LOVE children! (yawn)…I think it just might be time for bed…been such a long day…and am very excited to see what happens tomorrow!!

Mom here: He IS a goofball!! Nugget is a beautiful red golden with a little white on his chest. He is a big boy with huge feet. He is very good natured and he loves children and cats. He will sit on command but he does need to learn some manners. The cats are adjusting quickly. Nugget is a very friendly dog who will be a wonderful family pet! He is still young and has a lot of energy….still very much a puppy who is housetrained. He has shown no aggressions and is very healthy. He is a very happy well adjusted dog!

Dear RAGOM -

We want to inform you that our rescue Nugget (11-033) passed this week (1-10-18).

He was a real character to say the least!  This past fall we discovered he had developed osteosarcoma in his back right leg and it progressed quickly.  Over the holidays he got even more attention than usual (if that's possible) and he enjoyed every minute.

Thanks for the opportunity to adopt Nugget!

3/2/11: A note from Nugget's adoptive family in northern Minnesota.

I know that Mike visited with you by phone, but I Just wanted to report that Nugget is doing just fine here. He has calmed down nicely after a day or two – I think he understood he was here for keeps. He is quite silly most of the time. The first two days Kodi seemed to ignore him but now they seem like best friends. Nugget loves running around out in our big yard with Kodi and especially likes to fetch a ball. Kodi prefers to get both balls in his mouth and run – keep away from Nugget! We have discovered that Nugget loves nylabones and Kodi does too. We are thinking maybe we should buy stock in the company because it seems we are going through a couple per dog each week.

We had forgotten a little about the younger puppy energy and goofy mentality, but it wasn’t too Iong ago that Kodi acted just like that too. We have adjusted, so all is going very well.

3/6/11: Another update on Nugget from the F family.

Here are a couple of pictures.  One of Nugget and Kodi playing in our yard and one of Nugget alone.

You can see in the one of Nugget and Kodi that we fasten a very long lead to Nugget and let him run so he and Kodi can play around more. When we are walking out on our trails, every once in a while Nugget will get on a bunny trail and off he goes and he does not come back when called. But running through the woods and brush with the long lead means that eventually the lead gets wound around a few trees and Nugget gets stopped so we can catch up with him and retrieve him! The trail walks are good for him and maybe tires him out a little, but he still seems to have endless energy. He is learning lots of commands and I think he is pretty happy here.

It was interesting that he was here a week and a half before he actually barked when we were all here (he may have barked when we were not here). We were beginning to think that he did not know how to bark, but Kodi let him know it is okay if you think something is out there. So, now Nugget finally barks following Kodi’s lead. I actually like that since I am hearing impaired I do not hear cars driving in so having the dogs bark alerts me to go and look out the window and check out if someone is here.

It is snowing here so Nugget and Kodi were just out romping in the snow. They love to wrestle constantly (both outdoors and indoors) and are continuously all slobbered up around the neck and ears!

Greetings from Golden Valley!

Nugget arrived at his new foster home Sunday afternoon. What a handsome, sweet boy! He met our three resident dogs with no problems at all. Our senior dog Hunter even liked him! Nugget slept well in a crate in our bedroom and is crated when we are away from home. We do this with all of our foster dogs until we are sure they can be trusted with free roam.

Nugget weighs 82 lbs. and is a typical young energetic dog who needs daily exercise and training. Nugget is loving and affectionate and looks forward to finding a forever family who will give him the time and attention that he deserves.
