Rex 10-265

Profile

Rex is a clown. He is so sweet and wanting to please. He is so gentle and met our resident Lucy without any problems. Our Lucy can be a bit snarky and she snarled her lip a few times and Rex picked up on it and read it perfectly. Rex is just a goofball looking for all the love he can get and will lean in for any pets you'll give him. He is so sweet and a gorgeous boy who smiles all the time. He is a medium red color compared to our blond Lucy. He rode wonderfully in the car to get here. Rex came in from a loving home who unfortunately had to surrender him due to a move. I'm told he is good with cats, dogs and children of all ages and from what I've seen so far, I have no reason to disagree with that.

He is fighting a minor ear infection right now and is on some meds for that.  We'll get that cleared up soon too....

He's been here for 2 hours now so we still need to learn about him, but I wanted to introduce him to everyone....  We are blessed to have this angel in our home...

Enjoy the photos and stay tuned for more on Mr. Rex.  Thank you for reading about him.....

After 8.5 years of the Golden life with us, our sweet Rex crossed the Rainbow Bridge on February 1, 2019. Between his arthritis and some serious lung problems, we decided it was time for his pain to be over. He was officially the oldest Goldie our vet had ever treated, and he loved a belly rub right up to the last day!

Rex loved car rides, being around kids, swims in the river, and peanut butter filled pretzels, and we loved couch snuggles, nose nuzzles, perky ears, and playing ball (even though we usually had to do the retrieving!). We are a RAGOM family for life, and we can't wait to meet our future companions. But, for now, we miss our best boy every day, and he will always be #1 in our hearts. We love you, Rex!

Rex has moved on to live with his forever family.  They came to meet him on Saturday and it was a great match.  He is perfect for them and they will give him a great home.  They came to pick him up yesterday morning...
I took a couple pictures before they arrived to take him home yesterday morning.  One is of him sitting nicely and the other is of Rex and Lucy looking to the front yard for Rex's family's arrival.
We only had Rex for one week, but he was just a gem to have here.  He scored big with his new family and they are certainly lucky to have found him.

Rex said he will continue to pray every day for Mozart's safe return to his loving family.  They miss Mozart dearly....

Thank you for reading up on Rex and following his story.  He is now living the golden life....

It is another evening here at our home with Rex and he gets better by the day.  He is gaining confidence with having Lucy here and he actively seeks her out for playing and wrestling.  He has started mumbling and whispering sweet nothings in her ear so they may be going steady now.... who knows?

I snapped a good photo of Rex tonight.  Take a look and guess what he's doing........

.....He's anxiously awaiting the arrival of the family that is coming to meet him on Saturday morning.  He said he's gonna wait by the front door for them.  I told him to just lock up when he decides to go to bed...

We've learned that Rex likes to play fetch, but he's not so good at bringing the toy back.  He runs to get it and may carry it around or just get to it and look at it...  That's ok, as long as he's running around and getting some good exercise....Mastering the whole fetch thing can come later in bonding with his forever family.
Rex has gotten so much confidence here now that he is starting to show interest in mounting Lucy.  Well, she's not that kind of girl and she will teach him some manners one of these times.  I usually stop him before he leaves his front feet to avert a squabble....
We've been on several walks with Rex and he walks very nicely on a leash.  He likes to be out front a bit, but he doesn't pull.  And with his extra weight, he's usually pretty tired at the end and walking right next to me.  He's met several dogs on our walks and has been a total gentleman with them and just wants to say hi.
I almost forgot!  HAve you seen the movie "Up"?  Well, ya know how I always say Rex is a total clown, but very loyal and loving.  Rex totally reminds me of the dog, Doug, from the movie 'Up'. You have to meet him to see the resemblance.
Well, that's all for now.  Wish Rex the best of luck in meeting that family here on Saturday.
Thank you for reading up on him.

.....Be Safe Mozart, and come home soon.  Your family misses you and Lucy, Rex and I pray for you and them.....

Alas!!! We are in love! The only thing that would make Rex even better is if he knew how to cook and clean and change a tire......

Rex is awesome. Whoever comes to meet this loving boy will fall in love with him and be very lucky to adopt him.

Some updates on Rex... I found out he was to the vet on Saturday and got all up to date on his shots. He tested negative for HW and weighed in at a hearty 80lbs. I am happy to report he already down to 78.4 after a few days of lower calorie intake and some exercise. Rex is healthy with the exception of his weight and the ear infection he has. Both of these are being worked on and will be gone in no time....

This boy had settled in so easy here in our home and is already best friends with Lucy. He has the silliest way of playing with her, in that he will gnaw on her ears and the turn around and push his butt into her... We laugh everytime we see it. He has been super with our toddler son and allows our son to crawl near him and lay his head on Rex. Rex ignores our cat and just wants so much to be around us. He will follow us most of the time hoping for some pets and additional loving. If we stop petting him, he generally will just lay down and rest up and nap in the same room as you.

We usually kennel our fosters at night and when we are gone for the first couple weeks we have them. Both nights he's been with us and when we leave for work or errands, he follows us over to his kennel and we tell him, "Rex, Kennel." and he goes right in. We then give him a couple treats. Each time he sits there looking at you and then just lays down and doesn't say a peep all night long. In fact, when we get up for work at 6am, he looks at us with squinty eyes as if to say, "this is way too early to be getting up...."

Rex rides great in the car. He pants ever so slightly, but the more he goes with, the better he'll get.

He is housetrained and we have total confidence he is ok with free roam. We will start that after the weekend....

Rex is getting 2 cups of food a day and more exercise than he is probably used to. He is tired each night and content to chill out while we're watching TV.

Rex absolutely loves to run around our fenced in back yard. In his previous home he was outside most days by himself in a smaller dog run. So he is enjoying being able to stretch out his legs and run. This will also help him lose weight and build muscle in his hind end. For this reason, we'd prefer to find him a home with a fenced yard. His recall seems to be good, especially with a whistle.

He barked for the first time yesterday with Lucy when some people walked by in the street. He's got a nice deep bark.

In reading his surrendering paperwork, it states that Rex has minor storm anxiety and fireworks anxiety. It says that if he is outside when a storm comes or fireworks are going off, he will dig a hole and try to hide in it. HOWEVER, (and this is important) if he is inside, he is just fine and shows know anxiety. So I don't see this being a problem because RAGOM dogs are not supposed to be left outside alone right? :-)

I did take Rex to the vet tonight to have a wide flat mass on his tummy looked at. It was as I suspected, just a benign fatty deposit. It may go away or shrink as he continues to lose weight, but regardless, it is harmless and adds to his charm...

This boy is amazing. He will be a great addition to any family. I think he'd really like to have a dog companion, but as long as someone is loving him, and scratching his ears, he will be in heaven and your loyal companion to the end. He is so wanting to please you and be loved. Someone adopt this gem before we do.....

One other funny thing about this clown.... sometimes he sits in that certain way that some dogs sit in where they put their legs straight back and out to the sides..... I got a picture of him doing this tonight.... I have no idea how that can be even remotely comfortable, but like I said, he's a clown....

Rex and I will be at the Goldzilla event in the foster dog tent from 10-11 and then in the foster showcase. Come and meet him....

If you think your family would be a good match, and you'd like to meet him before then, contact your placement advisor.

Thank you for reading up on this angel. Rex says a prayer everynight with us for Mozart's safe return. We love you Mozart!
