August 28 at 330am Tanner suddenly and unexpectedly went to the Rainbow Bridge. At midnight I woke up to the sound of him having a seizure. He had never had them before but for the next three hours despite all efforts to stop them, they continued. We made the horrible decision to let him go. We have no idea what caused the seizures to start and to continue so frequently. Maybe that is the hardest part - not knowing. Tanner came into my life a few years ago and has battled thyroid disease and bloat like a trooper. He was a very big golden and I think it was because he had such a big heart. He loved everyone he ever met. He was a lover of Frisbees, food and being brushed. I am so thankful that while I didn't know it ahead of time, Sunday he spent the good part of the morning being brushed and enjoying a beautiful day laying on the deck beside us. He was a gentle soul and we are lost without him. A special thank you to Shelia Woodward for sponsoring Tanner.

Tanner - thank you for two years of unconditional love. For the faint bruises from you nudging us to be petted, and for the jowly smile on your face that always brought one to ours. Life will not be the same without you but I hope you know how very much you were loved. A small piece of our hearts went with you this morning. Enjoy your time with those who went before you from our family and closest friends families (Harley, Mandy, Bailey(x2), Brooklyn, Bella(x2), Summit, Valarie, Shiloh, Mason, Henry, and any other furrbutt I might have missed). You could not be in better company. You are above the storms that scared you and no doubt are resting peacefully with a bone and a Frisbee at your side. Someday the tears will stop and our hearts will heal but in the meantime please watch over us and know that there was never a day we were not thankful to have you and you were so deeply loved.

Tanner continues to do well.  We are having a bout of hair loss again but he remains his very happy, lovey self.  He spent the weekend sacked out on the cool floor as it was simply too warm to spend much time outside!!

It is not the camera angle.  He is indeed almost as long as our sofa!

Tanner had an eventful weekend.  Some of it he prefers to not think about again - A BATH!  While it wasn't the best bath he has ever had he sure is soft after!  He has a tough time standing in the bathtub for the length of time it takes to give a dog as large as he is a bath!  After the bath he laid in the sun and dried out, and that's when his fun started!  Sporting a new collar we loaded him in the car and headed for Petsmart!  To the best of my knowledge he had never been to a store and he did a great job!  Everyone said "wow your dog is big can I pet him" and he leaned in to every person for love!

Our reason for going to Petsmart was to get some new Frisbee's, one of his fave things.  I handed him a new pink one and he carried it in his mouth the entire time we were in the store, through the check out, across the parking lot and into the car.  Everyone pointed and thought he was so funny!  He doesn't just carry a Frisbee he jams it in his mouth so far that his mouth pushes back and it looks like he's smiling!  Still battling his thyroid issue but he's doing well otherwise!

Well all of a sudden the dog who would never go outside for anything but to do his business has turned into…

A deck dog!!!  WHAT?!  It was shocking to come home and see him out on the deck just watching the world go by while FD did some work of his own on the deck.  Of course he wouldn’t look at us to get his photo taken!!  Either way I am so glad to see his handsome face spending time with us outside!

I decided to sneak onto the computer today because my FM gave me some heartbreaking news.
Shiloh (07-557), a RAGOM girl who I spent time with while FM was at Goldzilla crossed the bridge today.  You can see photos of my time with Shiloh and her family earlier on my page but I wanted to send a special message to her:

Shiloh, your life began as a PM Mom and ended with one of the best families possible.  While your time in the PM must have been horrible I know your life since then has made that time a distant memory.  Know that the humans and dogs still here await the day they meet you at the bridge and tell all those who went before us that we send our love.  Your life was too short but I know the love you gave your family in the time you were here will last a lifetime.  Godspeed Shiloh!  We love you!

Tanner is still doing well post bloat surgery other then some issues with gas buildup in his belly.  He always let's me know when its bothering him by licking the carpet, walls, blankets, etc.  As you can see by the photo a bone is never far, even when he is sleeping!  Yes, they even make the trip from the living room to my bed at bedtime!  He is a goofy guy!

We were asked to foster Tanner this past weekend while his foster parents traveled to the Goldzilla event in Minnesota.  What a true joy it was to have Tanner in our home!   We have 3 goldens and 5 cats of our own.  Tanner got along just fine with all 3 dogs, and ignored the cats.  I have never had an easier dog to care for in my home!   Clearly he is recovered from his surgery and ready to move on with his life.  He walked 45 minutes each day with our dogs, was happy to chase tennis balls and engage in play with ours.  He loved to lay on the couch next to me as we watched TV, or lay in the kitchen while we fixed meals.  He would make a great gentle companion for anyone looking for a friend to share their home with.  He could easily be an only dog, or he would fit in well with others.  He really is that easy going.  Someone is missing out on a great dog.  I have to wonder if we have room for just one more in our home.   He was a real sweetie and never gave us a minute of trouble.  We miss him now that he has returned to his foster home.

Tanner is home and doing great!  He greeted us with a wagging tail and "let's get out of here" whimper!  A few weeks and this will all be behind him!!

Last night Tanner was rushed to the state emergency clinic where he underwent surgery for bloat.  He had a few complications during surgery as his pancreas, spleen, and diaphragm were also involved in the twist and some of the tissue torn.  The vet repaired everything our latest report is that he is up and around, wagging his tail, and licking people arms (which is his version of kiss).  He is not eating yet but they are cutting back the morphine to see if that will help.  We sure miss the big guy but know he is in wonderful hands and look forward to having him home soon!  Here are a few photos I snapped last night prior to him going into surgery.

Tanner has been doing great! The photo attached is when we visited some family friends. He sure loves kids! He still loves to spend his time watching for rabbits out the window, chewing on bones and snuggling. He is a very easy guy who would make a great member of the family!!!

Tanner continues to be the most well behaved loving boy!  He loves snuggling in bed or as you can see from the picture - on the front deck!  He is happy simply watching the rabbits or napping on sofa!  This senior guy will make a fantastic family member!!!!
