Bubba 10-122

Profile

Bubba is a big happy senior boy who came to RAGOM yesterday. He is 9 years old and a golden retriever/lab mix. Even though Mr Bubba is a tall boy, he is carrying too much weight. He tips the scale at 125 pounds, but should be closer to 80. He has bad knees which would be MUCH happier with less of Bubba to carry around. He has a sweet and gentle disposition. Mr Bubba plans to win RAGOM’s prize for the Biggest Loser! He is going to start working out and cutting back on the dog treats.

Last Saturday Bubba weighed in at the vet and he is now 99 pounds! He has broken the triple digit barrier by losing 29 pounds. What a good boy. Daily life for Bubba is fairly routine. He gets a good spot on the bed where he can rest his head (see picture) and snoozes while I am at work. My arrival home from work signals the MOST EXCITING part of the day. It’s not that I am home, it is that it is now TIME TO EAT! Though Bubba is still eating lean dog food, he gets a bigger serving, and that makes him very happy. After eating and a trip outside, he just wants to lie next to me while I read and rest his head on my arm or leg. He has developed a taste for carrots and whenever I am cutting them up, he and my other dogs wait eagerly for any pieces that might come their way.

Bubba would be a PERFECT addition to your home and would LOVE to spend the holidays in his new forever home. He is a big sweetie!

Oh Bubba how I love you! This boy got to come stay with me again and like last time, he inched his way into my heart. You can’t find a sweeter dog than him and he has no problem showing you how much he appreciates you caring for him. He’s a great snuggle buddy and loves to lay on me on the couch and sleep next to me at night.

Keeping me warm as I study!

He has become more active with his weight lost and unlike last time, he loved playing with his tennis balls! He liked them this summer when he stayed, but this time was different. He could actually run and chase the ball without having all that extra weight to slow him down. He’s the type of dog that is very loyal; he wouldn’t need a fence and is fine off-leash. He has great recall, although he does like to say hi to everyone he sees and doesn’t know what a stranger is J He got to go to a birthday party and he was even starting to play with the other dogs because he can now. You can tell he is so thankful and loves his new hour-glass shape!

He can now enjoy tennis balls!

Bubba would make a great addition to almost any house. He LOVES kids and was content having my niece pet him for long periods of time. He can go for short runs, but because of his slightly weaker back legs I would suggest a house where it’s people are maybe outside a lot, but not a type A personality that is constantly on the go (he probably couldn’t handle long runs, bike rides, long hikes). If he gets daily exercise, he is also fine in an apartment and is happy with napping on the couch or knawing on a bone. He does stairs just fine and this summer, I was able to get him in the river a little, but he needs some swimming lessons (really the only hard part for him is getting in the water, he can swim just fine!).

He is a super dog and anybody would be lucky to have him! Contact placement if you want to meet Big Boy Bubba!

Bubba had a wonderful time at Goldzilla. He got lots of petting. In honor of the occasion he got to sample a few treats, but not too many to hurt his diet. There were many prizes given out at the picnic, and I had a tough time explaining to him why it was a GOOD thing that he did not win the BIGGEST dog award! After all of his hard work to get smaller, he thought it was not fair to lose out on an award that he could have won with no work at all!

Yesterday was so beautiful that I did lots of work outside. As you can see from the attached photo, I had plenty of supervisors. When I took the picture Bubba was right in the middle of a woof. He was saying that he was sure it would be more interesting if I would only leave the gate open. When I leave for work in the morning Bubba is the first to make it back to my bed and stake out the window view. He has his own cozy spot there.

As the colder weather is approaching, I want to emphasize Bubba’s warm and cuddly features. He loves to snuggle and is very toasty warm. You could turn down the heat in your house and use Bubba watts to warm you up. He will be a great Bubba buddy during the long, cold winter nights….

Last night I dumped a 20 pound bag of dog food into the dog food container. The empty bag was just sitting there so Bubba decided to have a little party with it. He carried it into the bedroom and licked it clean. It was already pretty clean, but Bubba had hopes of finding some crumbs at the bottom. He wanted me to know that he was still hungry!

Bubba did so well at my house, I'm going to miss the big guy! He is such a gentle soul, it's impossible not to fall for this guy. This past weekend, we went and visited my Aunt and two cousins, ages 13 & 6, and they too fell for this guy. He loves kids and does so well with them despite his size! He has excellent recall and wouldn't need a fence, hestays close to you and listens well. While staying with them, my cousin's bed is quite a bit lower than mine so he decided it was the perfect height for him to get up on and slept with us both nights; now this is quite a sight my Aunt said for he is bigger than my cousin and is as long as I am! He's quite the snuggler. I decided to go on a grooming spree this past week and cleaned all three dogs' ears, clipped their nails, and gave them all dentals. Now when I say dental, I mean I not only brush their teeth, but I also scrape the tartarand such off. Bubba was great through all of this! He didn't like his teeth being scraped, but he tolerated it and now they look nice and pearly! His ears were already quite nice and his nails are now nice and short! He is truly a gem. We continued going to the dog park and he is like a social butterfly. He wants to say hi to everyone; both two-leggers and four-leggers and I have yet to see him not like anyone! He wouldn't swim anymore and I didn't wantto force the issue, but he was content with laying on the beach, wading in the water, and chasing the other dogs in the sand. I didn't see any other signs of soreness and I think he lost a little more weight! After the dog park, I bring everyone back to my house and rinse them off; Bubba did well with this and stood there while I hosed the sand off. I generally give bones out at this time so the dogs can relax and dry off. Bubba enjoyed this and has no problem with the other dogs eating by him and displays no resource guarding. I couldn't say enough good things about this big guy. He truly is a fantastic dog and anyone who adopts him will be lucky!

I have the pleasure of temporarily fostering Mr. Bubba. I have had him since Saturday night and I am in love! He’s such a great dog with a fantastic personality, I have nothing bad to say about him. He’s completely house-trained with no interest in marking and gets along with all dogs; big, small, male, female. My male is an alpha and Bubba respects him and listens to his behavioral cues. I have taken him to a dog park a couple times which he thoroughly loves! He’s not quite sure of the water, but I have gotten him to swim a few times with lots of encouragement. He’s content with just laying on the beach or following the other dogs. He has no resource-guarding and will allow my Bernese Mountain Dog adolescent to take his bones and toys from between his front legs. He is on a diet, but I stopped and got the dogs pup-cups from DQ today and Bubba loved it!

Bubba loves every person he has met! He is fantastic with kids; I have a 3-year old niece that he just turns to butter for and lets her rub his belly and ears while giving her kisses. He’s a complete love-bug and is happy to lay at your feet with an occasional scratch. But once you start, it’s hard to stop! Bubba will look at you with those big, brown eyes and then proceed to rest his head on your arm. He is on Rimadyl for his sore legs, but he takes his meds like a champ; chews them with no need to pill him. The couple days he has been here, he has only seemed to be a little sore one day, but otherwise seems to be fine with no problems on the stairs or jumping into my Explorer.

I will update again in a couple days, hopefully with some pictures from the dog park! Bubba is a sweet boy who deserves a home of his own!!
