Hello RAGOM,
I’m sad to report that my beautiful, vibrant rescue, River, died of autoimmune hemolytic anemia in December. He was almost 8.
I wanted to let you know. He was extremely healthy, happy, and energetic until this hit just before Thanksgiving. He was treated with prednisone by our vet, then we went to U of MN for advanced testing and treatment, but he developed blood clots and passed away between Christmas and New Years of an embolism. Sadly, the disease and treatment took everything out of him. It was heartbreaking.
He was the kind of dog who still had puppy energy at age 7, so this came out of the blue, as I now know is what this disease does.
River was rescued with his mom and the rest of her litter. I'm curious to know if mom or any litter mates have had this disease. Here are the original links for River and his mom on the RAGOM site.

I loved River—especially letting him run at Minnehaha dog park—which we did every weekend, all year in all weather. He was joy on four legs. I loved seeing him run happy and free—always checking in with me as if to say, “Isn’t this just the best place you’ve ever been?!?!!!” His joy gave me joy.

Hello RAGOM, River here!
I have moved in with my new foster family…leaving mom and my brothers and sisters behind…sniff. It was kind of sad leaving them, but I really am doing very well in my new home!
My new foster siblings are really cool. There is Molly. She is a RAGOM dog from way back. She was a babe like me when she was adopted! Molly and I are buds. She kind of treats me like she’s my mom. Then there’s Wilbur…he and I don’t always see eye to eye, but foster mom says that’s because he wants to be the boss of me…whatever…I’m gonna be bigger than him in no time (he’s a schnoodle). We get along, but he doesn’t always want to play with me. I respect that and back off. There are 2 cats in the house. I like to bark at them, but I don’t really have much other interest in them. They are funny to watch – especially when I bark!
I love the human kids who are in my house. They are all older than 11 years old and they are all fun to play with, snuggle with, wrestle with, etc. I’m learning to go get things they throw for me, but I haven’t quite gotten that all figured out yet.
I don’t really have a firm attachment to my name yet. Foster mom says it’s because she knows I am waiting for my forever family to give me my forever name…whether it is River or something else.
I LOVE to sleep in the kennel next to my human sister’s bed. She and I greet each other each morning when her alarm goes off – then we run outside to potty (me, not her, she goes inside J).
As for the potty thing…well, I don’t go in my kennel. I like to keep that clean. Sometimes I piddle on the kitchen floor (where I spend most of my time in the house) – I am still learning this stuff. I have heard many times that I am supposed to do that outside. I’ll get the hang of it. I’m very smart!
Foster mom is telling me it is time to go out for our evening romp. I like to do that before I settle in for the night. I like to get my 8-10 hours of beauty sleep each night. It keeps me healthy and ready to play during the day!
Have a great evening!

Wow, these pups are getting big! In just a few weeks, they have grown by leaps and bounds. And, they sure are active! Typical pups---lots of playing, sleeping and pooping, not necessarily in that order. They have received many visitors and love being held and played with. They've also enjoyed their play sessions outside! They are a lot of fun to watch. And, interestingly enough, now that momma Molly is almost done nursing, she is playing more active with them.
Wouldn't you love some puppy kisses by Easter? They will be neutered next week and then available for adoption! Let your placement advisor know you'd like to meet them. I guarantee you'll fall in love with them!

River is now 6 weeks old and he had his first bath! He is very soft and loves to cuddle. He loves to play with both his siblings and the big dogs; he’s not afraid of anything. River is weaning off of Molly and sleeps with just the pups – not with mom anymore. He likes playing tug-o-war with the others and gives the best puppy kisses! He is ready to meet his forever family!
