Macy 09-209

Profile

Introducing the newest RAGOM girl - MACY!  Macy is a 7 (almost 8) year old PB Golden Retriever.  She was a beloved family dog but was surrendered in the best interests of the dog.  The family had another golden retriever who was harrassing Macy and making her anxious.  For the health of the dog and the family, she was surrendered to RAGOM.  It was a very hard decision for the family but very courageous.

Macy has only been here for a few hours but she is a wonderful dog.  She has the typical golden personality (love me, pet me!).  She was a little grumbly with my resident dog Sophie and my other foster Neighbor (09-156) but things are settling down.  Macy just loves my son and they are spending time hanging this evening (as you can see in the photo) and de-stressing.  When we went outside tonight Neighbor was kissing Macy's ears and she was fine with that attention.  She loves kids and adults alike.  The SO suggested given her anxiety over other dogs that she would probably be a great "only" dog.  She doesn't like fireworks or guns.  She doesn't like to swim.  She walks very well on a leash and is completely housetrained.

Macy will be going to the vet this week just for a checkup and she will be ready for her "fur"ever home.  Please contact your placement advisor if you are interested in meeting this sweet sweet girl!

Memorial Day is Macy's anniversary adoption date, and we are celebrating 5 years with her!  We adopted her when she was nearly 8, and this August, she will be 13.

Macy is doing well and is still happy and healthy.  She is a regular at spring and summer baseball and soccer games.  She is a bit less active with the little dogs she meets there, but her appreciation for them is still seen in a twinkle in her eye.

Favorite activities are rolling (and rolling and rolling) in the grass, hunting down (endlessly) the chipmunk that hangs out in our front yard (and runs up the gutter when she comes outside), lounging on the bed during family movies, and meeting people during a couple of now shorter walks each day.

She had two surgeries this year, one to remove an infected lump on her back and one to remove a small lump on her eyelid (which was irritating her eye).  She came thru both surgeries really well and recovered quickly.  She has no health problems.

Her new love is a friend who dog-sat one weekend while we were away.  Macy cries with joy when Jill visits, because she adores her.  They have a great relationship.  :)

Photos are Macy in her usual pose, pancake flat on the floor, and one with "mom."  She is a real joy and we so much appreciate all of you who allowed her to be a part of our family.

Macy has now been with our family for nearly 4 years, and we are so happy that she continues to be in good health.

It has been a long winter for all of us, including Macy, and she is really looking forward to getting outdoors for some baseball and soccer games. She loves coming along to those, and generally works her way down the sideline of fans, taking pets from each person and then moving on until she gets one who never stops petting. Then life is good! One older couple told me that they love spending time with her at the games because it is too difficult for them to have their own dog (due to traveling). She is happy to be their temp dog at the soccer games!

Perhaps the best day of Macy's life was last summer when a guy working on our house brought his chihuahua over for the day. Diesel, the mighty mini-dog, and Macy rolled and played in the grass all day. By the time she came in the house that evening, she was so tired that she could barely eat and then plopped down on the floor - she could not move. (I took the opportunity to trim her nails!) She ADORES little dogs and the two of them had such a grand time.

Macy is still in good health. She spends the first half of the night on the bed and then departs for the cooler floor. We continue to try to spoil her rotten, or perhaps a better expression is "spoil her yummy."

Thank you Ragom for introducing us to the most wonderful dog in the world. Every dog that you help find a home is the best dog to one of us.

At the one year anniversary of Macy joining our family, we are writing to let everyone know what a fantastic year it has been for all of us. Macy is a wonderful dog. We feel so lucky to have her in our family.

Here are a few stories that provide a glimpse into Macy’s charming personality!

Macy has been to numerous baseball and soccer games while her human brother is playing. She is always the most well behaved dog and everyone loves her. One day at baseball practice, we leashed her to a tree near the field so that she could lay in the shady grass. A bit later, she was on the field! She had chewed through her leash (the ONLY thing she has ever damaged) so that she could join us on the field. She sat down on home plate and spent the rest of practice there while the team worked around her, making sure she was safe from flying balls.

Macy does not like getting wet. She avoids the rain and the lake, only chasing ducks and geese to the water’s edge. Along with this habit, she also likes a bit of ‘help’ getting into the car. She puts her front paws up on the seat, then turns around to look at you until you lift her hind end the rest of the way in. Well, apparently she REALLY hates getting wet because one day at the park when it started to rain, I opened the car door and she jumped in, easy as pie. Hmmm, I think she has us well trained!

We’ve included a couple of photos of Macy’s travel, including a hiking and camping trip where she was a real trooper keeping up with everyone. Another photo is from a trip to Gooseberry Falls. Macy understands ‘packing’ activities, and always manages to slip outside and then LEAN against the car so that we cannot possibly leave her at home. She may be a quiet girl, but her actions speak loudly!

Finally, one last story of what a good girl Macy has been. We give her very few treats due to her severe allergies, but she gets to eat the stems of her human brother’s broccoli each night at dinner. One night, HB accidently left his whole dinner plate (with roast beef, bread, and broccoli) on the floor, and we were all out of the room for a minute. When we returned, Macy sheepishly moved away from his plate. She had eaten the broccoli….and left the roast beef and bread! She knew which food was for her!

Thank you RAGOM for everything that you do and for bringing Macy into our family. We love her.

From Macy's forever family...

Holiday Greetings to Everyone from Macy!

I arrived in my new home on Memorial Day last summer, and everything has been going great ever since. It took me about a week to settle in and get totally comfortable with everything.

There are a lot of kids around here, only one that lives with me, and I am always super nice to all of them. Some kids seem afraid of dogs, but I always put them at ease.

My new family lives on a lake, but I'm sticking to my tradition of avoiding water. I just chase the ducks and geese off the lawn and feel very proud of myself!

Mom takes me for a walk every morning and dad takes me for a walk every evening. I really love that. Sometimes dad tries to take me for a second late night walk, but I am usually too snoozy to get up and go with him. I really love that he takes me in the woods and lets me run.

My mom takes me to work with her sometimes. I love that because everyone stops by all day to pet me. And of course I never bark!

I may weigh 75 pounds, but I'm totally in love with the 8 pound dog who lives next door. I get very excited when I see her outside.

As for sleeping, I love lounging on the bed with mom and dad. Sometimes they say I take up too much space, but mostly they are okay with it...as long as I let them pet me!

I think my new life is very happy and I sure am glad that FM Sue helped me find my furever home. Thanks RAGOM!

Love, Macy

Macy is really loving her "furever" home.  Here is an update from her new family:

Wanted to send a few quick photos and let you know that we are off to a great start with Macy.  We all spent our first day together hanging around at home, one trip to the park, and lots of time just relaxing in the yard (and searching for bunnies).

Macy is very calm, not eating all of her food yet, but still getting used to all of the changes in her life.

She has met the neighbor dogs on both sides of us.  She growled a little bit at the big one to the west (but just a little growl) but seems really fascinated by the little dogs to the east.  They are inside a fence but I think she would really like to get over there to meet them.  So we'll work on slowly getting to know the big dog and we think it will be fine.

Everyone (including us) is impressed by Macy's great manners.  She was obviously well cared for and loved by both her first family, and of course by you.  She was very friendly with several visitors we had today.

Thank you so much for everything.

Macy was adopted today by the "G" family.  She was so excited to go to her "fur"ever home that she was waiting patiently for them to come (see photo). She is looking forward to playing with her new human brother Jasper. She misses her former human brothers (Garrett, Jack and Will) but she wanted me to be sure to tell them that Jasper and his mom and dad will take really good care of Macy and love her alot.

Happy life Macy! We miss you. Best wishes to Bob, Susan and Jasper.

Love,

FM, Foster brother and Sophie

Macy has had an interesting couple days.  We knew that she grew up with children (3 boys) but she was kid tested again yesterday quite by accident.  She and I were out walking last night behind my apartment building.  Out came a dad and his 2 sons to play catch.  The boys were around 2 and 4.  They saw Macy and their eyes just lit up.  They took off running toward her as fast as their little feet would carry them (definitely not dog-savvy kids).  But Macy is definitely kid-savvy.  She patiently waited for them to run up to her (with her tail wagging).  They petted her and then the older one knelt down and gave her a big hug.  Their dad is a mail carrier and he said dogs don't like him but Macy did.  I think he was surprised and said she was a wonderful dog.  Definitely great with kids!

She also discovered the nest of baby pigeons on my deck.  I didn't even know they were there - inside an old pot.  Macy turned the pot around, dumped out one of the babies and then just sat there starring at it.  She was just curious. Didn't hurt it or anything.  Now she sits inside starring out the deck door watching her babies!

Macy went to the vet this morning for a checkup.  She is all UTD on shots.  We are waiting for the results of her heartworm test, fecal sample and blood work but the vet says she is in great shape.  They all loved her at the office. Macy is ready for her "fur"ever home.
