Now that we have had a little time to get to know her, we would like to introduce Josie to our RAGOM fans.  She came from North Dakota where she was found as a stray, so very little is really known about her.  The initial information we received said she was approximately 4 years old.  However, we have just returned from her wellness vet visit and she is actually in the 7-8 year old range.  The vet made this determination based on her teeth, eyes and overall appearance.  She is underweight at 48.8 pounds, but does not have worms.  She just needs more time with some really good food.  She has limited muscle tone in her back legs, so we need to get her out on some long walks and maybe even a run or two.  The vet stressed this will help with her hips, Josie has some stiffness when she gets up.  She also has very sensitive feet.  We tried to cut her toenails, which are way too long, but we will be letting the professionals handle that.  The vet thought he could feel a surgical knot, but it was difficult to be positive . . . .  I guess we will have to wait and see if she needs to be spayed.  It will be a couple days before we have the results back on her heartworm test.

Having said all that, let me say . . . . we think she is gorgeous.  Most of the time she is quiet and calm, however, she does not like it when our resident girl, Pepper Anne, and Isabella #09-100 get loud and rowdy.  We have been working with her on playing nice.  She does love to carry a squeaky toy around in her mouth.  She is absolutely the best snuggler.  She loves to lay on the couch and take a nap (see picture).  She is completely housetrained and knows her basic commands.  She does not like it when people walk by the house, so we are working on a sit and stay while they go by.

Josie was found as a stray and a wonderful couple took her in and gave her love.  They were unable to keep her because of city rules, but sent a note expressing how much they loved her.  To her special Good Samaritans ....  we love Josie very much .... Josie is home.

It is with great joy that we have welcomed Josie into our home forever, she will never be a stray again.

First of all, Josie would like to say a GReat big THANK YOU to her sponsors.  They would like to remain anonymous, so she is sending you a very special doggie kiss.

Second, we just received all Josie's senior test results back and the vet was very impressed.  All her levels are well within normal, except her cholesterol.  However, because everything else is good, there are no real concerns, it's just something to watch as she gets older.  At the same time we had the vet remove a cyst from her head and one on her side.  Even though the vet didn't think they were a problem for her, she would rub her head and we decided to have them removed.  What do you think of her new hair do?  While they had Josie sedated they trimmed her toe nails.  She is so sensitive when you try to look at her nails, she actually cries.

Josie is making wonderful progress with the other girls in the house.  Our resident girl, Pepper Anne, and Josie are learning to play together.  It's actually interesting to watch Josie work up to her play mode.  She will rub her back end back and forth on a couch or chair or whatever is handy and then bark at Pepper Anne.  Apparently, that is her new signal that it is time to play.

WOW, time is really flying by with the change in weather.  Josie is doing good in our home, but we are still working on her issue with the other girls.  According to the limited information we have, Josie is good with other dogs . . . . hhhmmmm?  What we have observed is that either Josie does not like a lot of rough housing, or, she doesn't understand the girls are just playing.

Josie really hates the vacuum, carpet cleaner, leaf blower, lawn mower (get the idea).  It seems loud noises are not her cup of tea.  We have been spending a lot of time reassuring Josie that nothing is ever going to hurt her again.  We have found a lot of scabs around her neck and head area, so she obviously had a tough time.

Josie went to the vet and her heart worm came back negative, one less issue.  We have received approval to take Josie back to the vet for a senior blood panel, now that we have determined she is actually between 7-8 years old.  While she is there, foster mom is going to have the professionals clip her nails and remove a cyst on her head.  The vet didn't think it was a problem for her, but she rubs her head so we think she would like it off.

Josie is really starting to love her stuffed animals, especially her ducky.  As you can see, we have been working on all three playing tug of war together, interesting with three dogs.
