Zelli (Suki 09-095)

Profile

Tonight, we picked up Belle, Kelli, and Suki.  They are 8 week old female Golden Retriever/Black lab mix puppies, born January 2, 2009.  This initial bio for each one will be identical since we just met them and haven't gotten to know their different personalities yet.  Plus, I can't find identifying marks, so we'll put on colored collars and write more as we get to know them better.  What I can say is that they are all very nice puppies!  Mom is a petite purebred Golden Retriever who we met this evening when we picked up the pups.  Dad is the black lab from across the street.  The family that owns the mom and raised the puppies for the first 8 weeks have six children (five boys and one girl).  The children have been handling, playing with, and socializing the pups since birth.  This is wonderful since it means that the pups are more likely to be good with children as they grow into adult dogs.  They all had baths this evening and were very good in the tub.  Some puppies we've had jump and try to escape from the tub.  Not these girls - they were all very mellow and laid there quietly while I lathered them up and rinsed them off.  Great bunch of puppies!  The pups will be going to the vet this week to get their first set of puppy shots and will then be available for adoption.

I've been fostering for a long time and have learned that any puppy that is adopted and taken to puppy kindergarten and put through a couple levels of obedience training (positive motivation only) can become a loving, self-confident, and happy family dog.  If you think you might enjoy taking your pup to training and would like to adopt one of these great puppies, please e-mail your placement advisor or, if you are not yet an approved applicant, complete an application to begin RAGOM's adoption process.

Zelli is doing fabulous!! This is a picture from last weekend at the cabin.

Remy (Max 07-081) and Zelli (Suki 09-095)...These two are best friends, brother and sister, they totally love each other!!! These are pictures at their favorite spots at the cabin, amazing we were able to get a couple when they weren’t moving. Ok, truth be told we told them to “stay”.

We started participating in agility trials this year and what a blast we are having! We start at a Novice level and need 3 qualifying scores to move to the next level which is Open. We have 2 qualifying scores for one class and 1 in another class. Zelli measures 21 ¾ inches at her withers which means she jumps 20”, at this height she competes with really fast Border Collies that are top agility performers, so any 1-4 placements will be a big deal, (we have 3 so far). Zelli is fast and happy!!!

I will send some agility photos of Zelli in the next few weeks.

Zelli (Suki 09-095) became Remy's (Max 07-081) little sister three weeks ago. They are in love! Remy adores his little sister! Zelli is in puppy class, learning new things everyday. She had her visit to the cabin a week ago and was able to use her little nose following her big brother everywhere.

Thanks RAGOM for all the great things you do!

Suki got to be extra-special on Saturday and went as the visiting puppy on a home visit.  This was her first time on leash and she did quite well.  She met new people and an adult dog that wanted to play with her.  She wasn't quite sure how to handle him, since he was so much bigger than her, but he was a nice guy and sure was handsome!

After our home visit, we had to make a stop at the pet food store where she got her fair share of attention.  Everyone that walked in commented on how cute she is.  The puppies (and me) are enjoying the warmer weather and more time outside.  Suki is very ready to meet a family of her own!
