Cooper 09-013

Profile

Cooper loves other dogs, rawhides, Nylabones, and stuffed toys. Cooper is a typical young golden energetic, playful, and loves attention. He loves his head and belly scratched and likes to give kisses. He rides well in the car, is starting to get used to the gentle leader, and makes sure he lets you know when someone is at the door or if he needs something (like if he wants the resident dog to give him the Nylabone). That happened earlier in the evening tonight and I couldn't figure out why he was barking until Mia got up and walked off, he took the bone and all was quiet again. He has shown no resource guarding of any kind towards people and the only thing I've seen him guard towards Mia is a rawhide. Cooper is a real easy guy to fall in love with. He has loved anyone he has met and likes to be around his people.

He can be a little unsure of new things at times but I think that is him just settling in. This afternoon I was trying on my wedding dress and walking down the hallway and he started barking and barking. He couldn't figure out what this big white thing on me was and had to make sure he checked it out first. It was pretty funny!

Cooper doesn't countersurf and knows sit and we are working on wait. I definitely think he is a pretty smart guy as fast as he picked up the crate training and would do great in an obedience class.

And for the best news of all Cooper has already found his forever home. Jim and Marilyn who transported him all the way from Minnesota to Iowa last Sunday decided that they really wanted to make him a part of their family! He will be going to his new home in a couple of weeks after he is all healed from his neuter and his new dad gets back from a business trip. His new dad gets to work from home most of the time so Cooper is going to be one lucky boy!

Here are some pictures of this lovable guy!

It is with the deepest sorrow that I must report that our dog Cooper 09-013 had to be put down today.

Cooper was once featured on Boyd Hupert’s land of 10,000 stories because of his love of riding in my military styled side-car motorcycle. We gave Sgt. Cooper a wonderful life over his 10 + years with us, and he returned the favor tenfold with his unlimited love and adoration to both my wife Marilyn and myself JIM.

Putting down a dog is one of the hardest things you can do as an adult human, but a few days of pain and anguish over the loss of your friend is well worth all of the love and joy that dog provides to you over his short life. When it is time, please hold and comfort you pet while he is being euthanized, you were the center of his universe, you need to be there to the end as difficult as it may be.

God bless you Cooper, you were the best friend a human could ever ask for, and thank you RAGOM for our Cooper.   RIP.

It's been quite awhile since I have updated my page so I thought I would share with you what's new in my life.

I am still with those nice people who adopted me way back in February 2009.

I still live in a big Log House in rural Prior lake with a big 2.5 acre lot to play in.

My health is still pretty good, I have gained some weight and I have some fatty tumors that the vet said to leave be for now, but otherwise for a 9 1/2 year old I am doing well, I don't even have a gray face yet.

I still love to ham it up in the side car motorcycle, I was quite a hit at the Tomahawk, WI motorcycle rally last Fall wearing my Amazon.com Lion Mane !

I still get to go to the deer shack up north near Akeley, MN and our Lake cabin near Rice MN where I still love to launch off the end of the dock!

Life is good, I am happy and healthy and loved, what else can a doggie ask for?

Thank You RAGOM for all you do.

Just when I thought life could not be any better, Dad buys me another new toy! Now we have a sidecar motorcycle to go to the beach and to the doggy park in.

At first I did not want to get into it, but when dad took me straight to the doggy park in it I was hooked after the second ride!!

I have been swimming allot this summer, and I just got home from 9 days at the Deer Shack where I got to hang out with Rosie and Copper again.

Thanks Ragom for all you good folks do.

Hi, Cooper here.

Well, I have been with my new family now for about 1 year and 10 months. I am a very happy dog, I would still like to have a doggy companion in the house with me because I just love other doggies. Mom is going to retire soon so I am hoping that she will approve the idea that dad and I have been floating for quite some time!

I still get to go to doggy park quite often and I get to go to the deer hunting shack with Dad quite a bit, unfortunately though, the lake place is now closed for the season, I really miss swimming and fetching balls in the lake.

I have gained a little bit of weight, but everybody says that I am a very handsome boy.

Anyway, I just wanted to tell everybody that I am doing very well, I am very happy and I know that my new mom and dad love me very much. Merry Christmas to all of you wonderful RAGOM folks, and Thanks so much for all you do.

Love, Cooper

P.S. The new photo is me up at the Deer Shack November 2010.

Hi everybody,

Here is the update I promised in my last posting. I am very happy at my new home, I could use another dog to keep me company because I just love other dogs, but I get lots of attention here from Jim and Marilyn. I get to go to Jim's deer shack up north which I love, and I get to go to the lake cabin up in Rice, MN which I love even more!  I also get to go on the road sometimes with Jim to do what ever it is he does! I love the water, so Jim has been playing water fetch with me quite a bit.

I am getting better on a leash and I'm doing much better off leash too. I will be turning two in October, so if Mom & Dad think I was fun before, wait till they get a load of me in my terrible two's !!

Oh ya, I completed the Better Dog 1 course at MVHS in June and received a passing grade, Yea! The picture with three Golden's is me on the left, my cousin Rosie on the right and my good friend Copper from up north in the middle.

One more thing, I want to say thanks to Jessica in Iowa for fostering me initially, you foster folks are awesome. Bye Bye, thanks RAGOM.

Hi, Mr Cooper here...

Who says the number 13 is unlucky?? I am the luckiest guy in the world. I have been in my new forever home now for 11 days and I have been to the off-leash doggie park 11 times! I just love that place because I get to run like the wind and I get to meet lots and lots of other doggies, I just love meeting other doggies.

I also get to return the big favor RAGOM did for me by going with Dad on home visits where I can show people what wonderful dogs you can get with a mere click of a mouse, whatever that means! My Mom and Dad give me lots of hugs and lots of toys and really good food, my coat is getting really shiny already and I even had a lady at the dog park call me a "Super-model", she said I was gorgeous, tall and thin, a Super-model!

The fenced yard is great, whenever I need to do some business I get to go outside without a leash and git-er-done, what a concept. Dad won't let me run free off leash yet except at the off-leash park because I do not always come to him when he hollars COOOOPER, one of these days I will get to run free in our big 2 1/2 acre yard, I can't wait.

I have been wearing this thing Dad calls a Gentle Leader, I get a cookie for putting it on and one for taking it off after walks on the leash, I do not like wearing it, but it is well worth it, I guess!!

I have been hearing about this place on a lake with a big long dock that I can jump into the water from and also this place in the woods Dad calls the Deer Shack where I can chase critters all over the forest and collect wood ticks, I cannot wait to go to those places, they sound wonderful.

I miss my first mom and dad sometimes, they were very good to me too. I know they called RAGOM because they love me and want only good things for me.

I will let you know how I am doing again in a few months after I have seen this lake place and the deer shack.

Bye for now,
Mr Cooper, Coop for short!
