The Road Trip Puppies!!
(Puppies #02-209 - #02-218)

Eleven cute little kids made their way to RAGOM in St. Louis Park from an animal shelter in Southern Minnesota. It was a hot and humid dog day. A tank and a half of gas was burned picking these pups, mom and another big boy up (Buddy #02-200: no relation) and bringing them into foster care. They are purebred goldens and just as cute as can be. Since a long road trip was required to bring them in, they were given RAGOM names after cars spotted along the route.

Mom, Chelsey #02-208, (not available for adoption) is a very loving girl with people as well as her pups.

She is taking wonderful care of them and, when they are eight weeks old, will be happy to let them go to new loving forever homes.

We adopted Cherokee #02-214 in August 2002 as a puppy from a litter of 11. (All were named for cars.) She had blue eyes that turned a medium brown. We named her Ruby.

She was a lively pup and became a good family dog. She never got up on counters or furniture. She had some issues (some that puzzled the vet). She had allergies and itchy skin every summer and fall. She developed an irregular head shape which caused one ear to stick up. This didn't seem to bother her except she had a dry nose. Anyway, we called her our "million dollar dog" when we visited the vet, as we did often. The staff there knew her and loved her. Our friend, Mary who dog sat for us loved her too.

She was a good trooper and was friendly to everyone. Sometimes too friendly for people who don't like dogs. She developed lymphoma in January and was able to stay pretty comfortable until about two weeks ago. Our vet, Dr. Jean, came to the house to put her peacefully to sleep on July 17.

We will miss her and we are thankful that we had her as long as we did.

From Ruby's (formerly known as Cherokee) forever family...

This is an update on your Cherokee who we have renamed Ruby. She is a bright and happy puppy. We had some snow on Thursday and she was very excited about that. We did complete a puppy socialization class and have signed up for an obedience class. Ruby thinks I still need help to communicate better! She had one vet check and is due for her 16 week check next week. We're still working on the potty training. She has occasional accidents in the house. She's a real chewer!! She's getting a little better about leaving our hands alone though. We are just about done with the small gentle leader and will return it to you to use with more puppies.

From Ruby's (formerly known as Cherokee) forever family...

Hi; We've been waiting until we had some pictures to share. We changed her name to Ruby. She's been settling in nicely. She seems to have been taught how to sit. We've been taking her to puppy charm school. She seems like a really smart dog and I hope we're worthy of her.

We appreciate all the loving care that you all spent on her and I think she does too. We brought her to the vet for an introduction and she has a "real" appointment this week. She's not too sure of the lake yet. She spreads her toes and moves really slow if you can picture it! She does not like the hot sunshine! She seeks out a shady spot right away.

I've been spreading the word about RAGOM to everyone around here and left some brochures at the vet. (The puppy school is through them too). She has adapted to her crate for nighttime and jumped over the baby gate the first weekend. Roger built a nice gate between the back hall and the kitchen which has worked to keep her corralled while we can't watch her. We have all four exits from the kitchen blocked off with gates and cardboard until she's housebroken.
