Snoopy 02-226

Profile

Snoopy is a tall, slim and very handsome two-year old boy, probably around 70 pounds. He was raised in a loving family since he was 8 weeks old, which included two small children (currently 4 years old and 5 months old). Snoopy is on the calm side and is definitely not a runner. Due to many changes in his home, which included a relocation from Colorado, a new baby and being boarded until the family found a new home in Minnesota, his family felt that they did not have the appropriate time and space to give him what he needed. They decided that Snoopy would be better off with someone that could give him the time that they couldn't at this point, so even though it was tough decision, they surrendered Snoopy to RAGOM.

Thank you RAGOM for allowing us to adopt and spend 11 years with Snoopy! He died Sunday, June 23rd at noon. Snoopy, the trooper, held on until after my daughter's graduation which was also his 13th birthday.

My 17 year old daugher's Facebook post:

"Snoopy was the sweetest dog ever. He lived 13 years, 11 with us. He was a rescued dog, came to us underweight and wearing a cone. After moving from place to place for so long he didn't think this was his real home, so he suffered anxiety in cars and didn't bark for the first few months. Then we got him a new collar, I like to think at that point he realized he wasn't going to be leaving. From that point on he was one of us. Heh he even had the same allergies as me! Alex, mom and I would walk him to a coffee shop on weekends, dad would feed him cashews while lounging on the couch, he would jump for mom on the top step as she got him food (actually the cutest thing ever), and let me shower hours of affection on him. He loved to lie on the deck in the hot sun, or snuggled up on my parents bed. He loved people, and a few select dogs.. This year I would come home from classes to have lunch with him as it got harder for him to get around.

I think Snoopy lived a good life here, smiling right down to the end."

Here is young Neva (age 7) with Snoopy.

Snoopy made it to our house just in time to spend the holiday weekend at our cabin. He likes car rides, so the 2 hour trip was nothing for him. Unlike his new foster sister, Sophie and Sam (02-01-381/who we transported from the cities), Snoopy is NOT a swimmer. Sophie and Sam hit the lake the minute we got there and swam, waded and swam some more. Snoopy, while enjoying himself, did not mess up his well groomed coat!

Snoopy has only been with us a couple of days now, and this is what I can tell you about him. He gets along with both female and male dogs, as well as cats. He is not afraid of thunder (since we were so blest as to have storms start Saturday night and remain through the rest of the weekend), loves car and boat rides, does not swim, likes chew bones and retrieving balls. He was good with kids (ages 3 and 5) and our Westie, Suzi (which is always a challenge!) :-) He walked well on the gentle leader (we are unsure whether this was a first for him, or not) and is a real love bug.

Sophie, Suzi and Snoopy (Say that 3 times fast!)

Snoopy does have a few health issues that we need to check out, and he is spending today at our vet's office to get some tests run. Basically he has some skin irritations which his previous owners thought was the onset of allergies. With all the changes in his life recently, our vet was not sure that was necessarily the case. It could be allergies, it could also be stress from all the changes, or it could have been something in the new house that irritated his skin. Whatever the case, he is being checked out now and we will start working on getting it (whatever "it" is ) cleared up! Also, Snoopy has not been neutered. So, that is also on the agenda! Depending on what the vet thinks, when examining him today, he may very well get neutered today, too. We will see..... That is all for now, but if you are looking for a cuddle-bug Golden Retriever, Snoopy may just be your boy!
