Gizmo 05-020

Profile

It is with great pleasure that I introduce Gizmo, the latest member in our extended RAGOM family. Gizmo is a young male, the vet thinks he is between 12 and 18 months old. He has a wonderful temperament in spite of what my vet thinks is a congenital birth defect. So his muzzle is a little crooked!! It gives him more character that way! It does not affect his capacity to be loved and most importantly it does not stop him from giving love!! He does not let this one little problem stop him from living his life to the fullest! He adores attention and will return it to you ten fold. Gizmo does not jump up on you, rather, he waits for you to acknowledge him and then sits back and basks in the glow. He has been updated on all his shots and all the other good stuff that goes along with that. He will be neutered in the near future also. He would make a WONDERFUL therapy dog, as he could show others that it is possible to be the best you can be, no matter what crummy thing life has handed your way. I am totally in awe of this magnificent creature that has come into my life and shown me that when life hands you lemons, you can still make the best dang lemonade that anybody has ever tasted!

Hi,

It is with a very heavy heart that I write to tell you that Gizmo crossed the Rainbow Bridge on Monday, March 17, 2014.  He had fought the good fight for the last 26 months against a mesothelioma-like disease that cause his pleura to retain fluid and make it hard to breathe.  For the last 6 months or so, his pleura would be drained every 10-14 days or so.  Gizmo took it like a trooper and responded so well to the treatment.  He always had a smile and a wag and a big dance with his toys after.  He was truly amazing. On Monday, his breathing was off and we took him to the vet, thinking it was a routine training, but when they attempted to drain, the fluid was all blood.  The vet feels a tumor burst.  We all had a feeling that he had cancer, as he was losing weight despite having an appetite, but knew that we couldn't do anything but keep him happy and comfortable because of the pleura issues.

Gizmo was loved and adored by us.  Our home feels so empty and our other three dogs seem at a loss without him here.  He was truly the heart of our home.  We were so fortunate to have had him for 9 years and would give anything if we could have had 9 more.

I'm attaching a few of my favorite pictures of him; the last one is the last one taken of him.  He was the sweetest dog.  And despite his crooked nose, he never snored. :)  His nose never caused him one problem.  It did make him perceive things differently, though, especially the tv.  He would bark at any animal on tv.  He would get nose to screen and just tell them off.  I miss that.

Thank you for rescuing him so long ago.

Giz-man checking in.....I just got back from the vet. Boy, I tell ya, they all loved me! They all told mom what a handsome, well-behaved love sponge I am. She was so proud of me.

I had my "boy" surgery today, but I'm acting as if nothing happened - I'm not going to let on that I may be a bit tender - not me - oh, no - I am a "guy" after all......Doc said that he's never seen a nose like mine and wondered what could have possibly happened to cause such a birth defect. He said that since my back teeth line up nice, I can eat just fine (I could have told you that!). He said there may be a slight chance that, should my sinuses start bothering me, I might have to have a surgical procedure to make me more comfortable. He said that I'll probably snort from time to time and m! aybe snore. No biggie. I guess I get water all over when I drink - I suppose because my mouth doesn't close all the way. Hey - at least I have an excuse - Kirby and Emma don't even have an excuse for being sloppy drinkers! My right eye tears too. Doc said my tear duct is blocked (as a result of my crooked nose). He said there is a sauve I could use if it bothers me. And, one more thing, my smeller doesn't work perfectly. Mom says that could be a benefit in that I'm less likely to smell the goodies that I'm not supposed to get in to.

I am having so much fun with my foster sister Emma. She is one patient gal. She never, ever crabs at me - even though I know she gets tired of playing a lot faster than I do. She has taught me how to play with the resident cat - and that if you run real fast on the wood floors, you can take the corners on two legs! That gives us a definite advantage over the cat. It's a good thing the re sident cat has a good sense of humor!

I sleep next to the bed at night, but the minute I hear the alarm, I consider that a personal invite to jump on the bed to give kisses and cuddles - and I am about the most cuddly guy there is!

Well, I'm going to help mom with dishes and then get her tucked in for the night.

We'll talk soon....
