Miss Kayla has found her forever home with a wonderful family. She will have a fur sister and 3 human sisters. Her fur sister already adores her. This lucky little pup also has a mom and dad that work from home. Best wishes to you, sweet girl!

Kayla is a beautiful little Golden mix that came to us from a bad situation. She was rescued with her siblings from a reservation in North Dakota where she was living outside. She came to us covered in ticks, but has since blossomed into a sweet little puppy.
Kayla is being fostered with her brother Kyler 17-136. Together, they make quite the little bundle of mischief. They have the typical puppy energy of play, play, play, eat, poop, sleep, look cute, get into trouble, and repeat. They are loving hanging out with our 4 Goldens and our other foster, Cammie 17-085TD. They are also getting along great with our 3 cats.

Kayla was at the vet recently and she weighted in at 17 pounds. Unfortunately, she also had round worms, so was treated for that, but is otherwise very healthy. She started on her puppy shots and was a really brave girl when her microchip was placed. She has since received one more dose of de-wormer, but will still need to be spayed before she goes to her furever home. Nobody knows for sure what she is mixed with, but the vet felt like she is probably a Golden and Husky mix because her tail curls up and her fur is very dense. Either way, she's just a little doll. She is the mellow one of the 2 puppies, a little more hesitant to new things, and a bit more of a follower than her brother.
Kayla is kennel trained and sleeps most of the night in her kennel. She is working very hard on potty training, but it's still a work in progress. She knows her name and has learned to sit nicely for treats. Please be advised, though, that she is a puppy and has a ways to go in learning good doggy manners, such as walking nicely on a leash and knowing that human toes aren't for munching on.

Miss Kayla is such a love bug and loves to snuggle and give kisses. Here are are few other details about this doll.
She loves to play with and chew on stuffed squeaky toys, Nylabones, and deer antlers. She also loves to play on blankets and likes to gather her toys on blankets. She likes to retrieve shoes and socks when she has the opportunity. FM is learning to put her shoes in the closet. Kayla likes to chew up the grass and dig. FM learned this while she was reading a book outside with Kayla. A little redirection and a Nylabone put a stop to this.
Kayla keeps her crate dry all night (7+ hours) and anytime she is in her crate. She is a puppy and has occasional accidents in the house. Some days there are no accidents at all, and sometimes there will be one accident. FM is learning Kayla really loves to drink water and will drink so much that even if Kayla has just been out and peed, the water may go right through her and she goes again. Luckily for FM, it's been on the laminate flooring or a washable blanket. FM is now monitoring the water intake.
Kayla is healing nicely from her spay surgery. Today we went on our first short walk since then. She walks well for a puppy on a leash (sometimes wants to play with the leash), but loud noises or people can make her stop in her tracks, but she overcomes this with reassurance. She is slow to warm up, and this shows on walks.
Kayla's vet appointment on 7/5 mentioned a possible exposure to Giardia. She was put on meds for 5 days. She was doing well, but she had diarrhea over the weekend and the vet put her on new meds on 7/17. She is a puppy, and sometimes puppies are more likely to pick up parasites that their little system can't kick out. The vet thinks the first meds didn't knock it out of her system. My resident dog has been playing with her this whole time and drinking from the same water bowl, plus licking her food bowl, and at his recent checkup on 7/18, his fecal tested negative. The vet said to have her checked again in two or three months.

Miss Kayla has been with me for a week now and she is just the sweetest puppy. She loves to give kisses and cuddles. She can be slow to warm up, but loves kids, adults, and other dogs once she warms up to them. At my home, she is out on a tie-out and does really well. She loves to be outside.
On 7/5/17, Kayla got her distemper combo vaccine along with her rabies vaccination. Kayla was so calm and sweet during both shots. She didn't make a sound or look during the shots. I also had the vet tech do a courtesy nail trim to cut her sharp puppy nails. She wasn't very happy about that. Right now, she weighs 17 lbs.
Kayla is such a good-natured puppy. She typically wakes up at 5:15 AM (6:30 at the lake), goes out to potty, eats breakfast, goes out again to potty and poop, plays, goes on a walk and poops and pees again, plays, has a morning nap, plays, has an afternoon nap (2+ hours in a crate), plays, eats dinner, goes outside for a bathroom break, plays, goes on another walk, plays, and typically is ready for bed at 9:30 when I put her in her crate for bed time. She keeps her crate dry all night. She has only had a couple of potty accidents in the house, but typically will go to the door when she needs to be let out. It was FM's fault for not seeing she had wandered over to the door.
Kayla is already doing a great job with "sit" and "down." She takes treats very gently and is very eager to please. She is working on "sit" and "wait" before going outside, "come," and "roll over." My resident dog is more than eager to show me he can do all of these commands already.
I took Kayla to my cabin for a few days. She rode for 4 hours north and back without a peep. She was a typical puppy and had bark, twigs, dirt, moss, rocks, and bugs in her mouth. She walked out onto the dock without hesitation and even stood on a rock to drink form the lake. She was very excited when my resident dog went swimming and disappeared under the dock and around rocks. She wasn't quite ready to try swimming herself. She also loved exploring the woods.
Kayla had her spay surgery on July 11, 2017. She will need about a week of low activity/recovery time before she can go to her forever home.
