Sandy 17-211

Profile

Sweet, sweet, Sandy came to RAGOM from a hoarding situation where she was chained outside year round but you never would know it from meeting her... she is the sweetest, most loving dog who still adores people. A bit shy at first, she only wants to be close and is quickly learning "sit", "stay" and "come" commands - she is smart. Physically Sandy is feeling much better these days; ear infections are now under control, a large mass (benign) has been removed from her back, teeth are clean, nails trimmed - her only ongoing issue may be sensitivity to cold on her ears from years of frostbite. Sandy will be the most loyal and gentle companion for someone - she gushes with goodness.

Sandy has found her forever home with Evelyn where she is now Evelyn's constant companion, walking partner, couch cuddler, and house guest greeter.  Sandy quickly adjusted to her new home and is living the Golden life after many years of neglect.  Evelyn and Sandy are a perfect match!  I am so happy for both of them!

Sweet Sandy is quite happy playing with her dog brother, but clearly prefers snuggling with her people.  She delivers the most gentle kisses.

Her favorite spot is wherever her people are and her cozy dog bed.

She loves to follow me out to feed the horses and is confident and gentle when coming nose to nose with one.

Sandy continues to impress me with her kind and confident nature.

Sandy is doing great! She's headed off to a new foster because we have stuff going on here next week and we have to give her up! She's done GREAT in the almost three weeks that she has been here. She's all ready for her surgery (having a mass removed from her side) and dental work on Monday, and once she recovers from that, she'll be looking for a permanent place to cuddle! If you need a compact, sweet little 50 pound cuddler, she's your gal!

She has done great with the dogs here (she's just not that interested in them, but has gotten along fine with them--and the cat), she loves meeting new people--especially if they are willing to pet her, she's a polite little girl--takes treats nicely and doesn't wolf her food. She loves hanging out outside, but even more, loves to try and be a lap dog. She's a bit of a puller on walks, but we're trying the harness on her now to see if that helps.

It's kind of amazing to think of how different her life is now from what it was 3 weeks ago, and even better to think of how she is going to make someone a great companion. It's been a joy having her here, and we're crossing our fingers that her surgery goes well!

Little Miss is doing great! She's settled in great here with the resident dogs and cat. She's been groomed, which lightened her coat color by a couple of shades, had her long nails trimmed and her medical stuff tended to. She's had chronic and severe ear infections so you can hardly see an ear canal, but they are cleaned up and being treated. She's SO much less stressed than she was in the first few days! Tomorrow we (hopefully) go to get her pre-op exam to have the mass on her side removed. The vet didn't find anything indicative of cancer but still felt it should be removed, so we're going to check that out. She's in so much better shape than she was a week ago!

Her personality has begun to shine. She's a sweet, smart, affectionate pup. She's apparently housebroken, as we've had no messes in the house so far. She kennels nicely and sleeps well in the kennel. A few nights ago, we decided to try her sleeping in the bedroom and she did great! She's a little snuggler! When she needs to go outside, she gives a little whimper. She gets along fine with the other animals, loves to sit on the front steps and watch the leaves fall, and will give a warning bark if someone approaches. Inside, she loves to nestle in on the chairs or the couch, and loves to look out the windows. She's a polite little eater, doesn't hoard or wolf her food and takes treats nicely. She knows how to sit. I'm still not sure if she knows her name "Sandy," and not sure if she has any hearing loss from the ear infections. She's a happy, lovely companion and it's kind of nice to have 50 lb lap dog rather than the 80 lb versions that live here!

It'll be good to get her surgery stuff lined up this week and then she'll be ready to look for a forever home!

Someone went to Pet Salon Bark Ave and was groomed today! Little Miss is looking good and is SO much happier now that she's clean and pretty!

She also got to meet some new friends whom she showered with kisses. Everyone who meets her comments how sweet she is, even the groomers! Thanks to Pet Salon Bark Avenue for donating grooming services to RAGOM dogs--and for being such lovely people!

MJ/Sandy, who just goes by the name of Little Miss in this household, arrived here Saturday after being rescued from a hoarding situation in Iowa. She was one of 10-15 dogs and 27 cats that were rescued. A RAGOM volunteer reported that in all of the chaos of getting the animals out, Little Miss just sat quietly on the steps, watching. She is a sweet, sweet girl who spent most of her life outside on a chain. With some love, she's going to make someone a sweet companion.

Little Miss is about 8 years old and weighs about 50 lbs. She went to the vet today, is now up to date on shots, and we're waiting for her heartworm test results. She has a small tumor of some kind on her side; that was also checked today and we should hear tomorrow about that. Her ears have been chronically and severely infected. They were cleaned at the vet today, and she has two medications to help clear up infections that have likely never been treated. She needs her teeth cleaned. She also got her nails a badly needed trim. And she has a spa appointment at Bark Avenue Salon on Thursday! She has a whole new life!

Little Miss is a TOTAL sweetheart! She doesn't respond to "Sandy,"or "MJ," so she's just referred to as Little Miss. She loves to give kisses and wants to be a lap dog. She's done just fine with the two resident dogs and cat, and she's slept quietly in her crate for the past two nights. She does like to nap on the furniture, I also discovered. Today I heard her bark for the first time when someone walked by. She follows me when she can, and likes to sit right next to my chair at the desk. Everything is new to her, and while she has some puppy mill dog characteristics--hesitant about doorways, going into new rooms, narrow hallways, she seems to be working through some of that. She seems housebroken, or at least hasn't had any accidents in the house or in her kennel. She's been a little anxious since she got here, but the trip to the vet really made her nervous. I gave her a small dose of Rescue Remedy when we got back and that settled her down and she took a little nap. Looking forward to seeing her personality emerge more as she settles in.
