Sadie Mae (Mae 17-220A)

Profile

Mae is a sweet but scared girl who was rescued from a breeder auction. She needs a very patient and calm family, and another confident dog to show her what to do. In the week that I've had her, Mae has made incredible progress, but still has a long way to go. She still needs to be spayed, and will not be available until that is done.

Sadie is starting to really come into her personality. She truly is an energetic, happy dog and quite the dork.

We have worked tirelessly on helping her become more comfortable with things that would scare her. She now loves meeting new dogs, playing with her brother Thor all day, going on walks (a big accomplishment in our eyes!!) and has recently discovered how much she loves the dog park!

She has marked her place on our hearts. I attached some of my favorite pictures of her.

Sweet Mae has found her forever home, and her days of living in a puppy mill are behind her. Her new family has plenty of patience and love to share. She has an energetic big brother dog, Thor, to show her the ropes. They had an absolute blast running around my yard today. Life keeps getting better and better!

Sweet Mae is continuing to make progress and overcome her fears.  Since the last update, she hasn't had any accidents in the house.  She gingerly took a piece of popcorn from my hand the other night, realized it tasted good, and took a few more.  She loves to play with my resident dog and loves to be petted.  We're still working on walking on a leash and coming when called - those things are going to take some time.

Mae's spay appointment is Monday, November 13th and she will be available to be adopted shortly after that.  She's made so much progress in the short time I've had her, and I know it will be rewarding for her adoptive family to see her continue to thrive.

Mae is slowly but surely adjusting to the Golden life.  In the last week, she has gained the courage to go up and down stairs on her own, in and out of doors (slowly), and eat food from a bowl.  She loves to play with my resident Golden, Gatsby.  It's fun to watch them run around my yard! If Gatsby is by me, Mae will sometimes bravely walk to me so she can be petted.  Here is a picture of them (Mae is on the left):

New things are both interesting and frightening to her.  When I first turned on the ceiling fan in my bedroom, she jumped back, then watched it in awe.

Before Mae can be adopted, she will need to be spayed.  She is currently being treated for roundworms and an ear infection as well.  We are also working on potty training.  Mae doesn't have any accidents when she's in her kennel, but still needs to learn not to go in the house.  Mae does not yet walk well on a leash - she gets scared and refuses to move.  The vet did notice a small heart murmur, between a stage 1 and 2.  She said Mae was likely born with it, and didn't anticipate it causing future issues.

Mae needs a family who will be very patient with her.  Another confident dog is required to show Mae what to do.  I'm not sure how she would be with kids, but I think they might scare her.  I do have a cat, but Mae tries to chase her sometimes.  I also think she needs a physical fence to keep her safe.

This girl has made amazing progress in one week, so I can't wait to see how much she improves!  How can you resist that sweet face?!
