It has been amazing to help and watch Dakota on his journey and transformation from a shy, shut-down commercial breeder dog to one who will look you in the eyes with a smile and wagging tail. To one that will take treats from your hand and greet you at the door with a great big hug. To watch you play in the snow with such joy and delight, and see you sleeping peacefully by the fire with your foster sister and foster brother.
All this is because of the generosity of our RAGOM donors and the Elisabeth M. Ljungkull Rescue Fund, dedicated volunteers Denise and Scott who brought you home to RAGOM, and all the volunteers who worked behind the scenes to make this happen for you and nine other dogs (Ten Missouri Auction Dogs Begin a New Life with RAGOM).
It was with tears of joy and loving hearts that we welcomed you into our family, and today the tears flow again with happiness as you join your forever family. Our wish for you, sweet Dakota, has come true! With your wonderful mom, brother Duke and sister Bayla by your side, your journey in living the Golden life will continue and only get better.

Through the generosity of our donors and Friends of Flicka, our wonderful volunteers Denise and Scott made their way down to a Missouri auction again to bring back 9 Goldens and 1 Labradoodle and changed 10 lives forever. One of those is Dakota.
Dakota’s sole purpose in life was to make puppies, nothing more . . . until October 21, 2017. On this day his life changed and his world was turned upside down. Dakota was confused and scared when he got to Minnesota. He would not look at you, he would not get out of his crate or walk, he would not take any yummy treats. He needed to be carried into the house, but, this day is where the sad, commercial breeder dog story ends and a new story of a RAGOM dog life begins!
Dakota has been with us for two weeks now and he is coming out of his shell. When he first arrived, he would not let you get within 10 feet of him. Humans were not to be trusted, only other dogs, and as it turns out, cats, too. In 14 days of baby steps, he has decided that people may not be so bad! He now comes, tail wagging with the other dogs when you come home and does not shy away when you walk by him most of the time. Even though I wish I could wrap my arms around him and make Dakota know that no harm will come to him in this house, it needs to be on his terms and letting his comfort level grow. Patience is the word for November, from gaining Dakota’s trust to potty training. I think that one of his favorite “new” experiences is snow! This video shows that there is a fun-loving, happy boy that is starting to come out.
Today, Dakota took a BIG step with Danny Boy/Georgie 17-046A by his side. We put a leash on, went out the garage door, into the car and to our friends at Rum River Veterinary Clinic. Dakota’s check-up went very well. He is now up to date on his vaccinations, no worms or parasites, and is a healthy weight of 74 pounds. He does have a mild case of Eyelid Ectropion in both eyes. This is where the lower eyelid “rolls” outward and therefore appears to be droopy. At this time no surgical intervention is required. He also needs to be neutered before being adopted.
So, the Golden life story of Dakota begins . . . what will the next exciting chapter be?
