Hey, it’s me, Faith (the Puppy Formerly Known as Gwynn)! Today I turned seven months old and started my new life with the wonderful S-D family. I have a Mom and Dad, Sister and Brother, three canine siblings and two cats. My new Mom is a veterinarian and she is going to take me to work! Maybe I can be the receptionist.
I am so grateful to RAGOM for rescuing me and arranging for my medical care and adoption that I can even forgive Foster Mom for the tee-shirt incident.

Gwynn here: According to Foster Mom, I am “enjoying” a little down time after my spay operation yesterday. Foster Mom is clearly deluded! I am ready to rock and roll (well, almost) but she insists I take it easy and even tried making me wear a silly tee-shirt. Should a dog of my style and grace dress like this?
Turns out the encounter with clothing was brief as, well, Foster Mom’s clothing is too big for me. (No offense, Foster Mom.)
After yesterday’s spay, I starred in a clinic love fest. My job was to snuggle and allow the clinic staff (and one total stranger) to pet me. It was hard work but you have to keep your fans happy. As you can see from the photo, I was drunk on love. (Or anesthesia and pain meds?)
That’s all for now. Gwynn signing off. Foster Mom says I need a nap.

Gwynn continues to shed sweetness and light (and some of her luxuriously soft fur) in her foster home. Hard to imagine how a 50-pound puppy can be so gentle!
Her play skills are evolving. She is now a world champion canine wrestler holding her own with foster brother Cody. She loves balls. Yesterday she initiated her first game of fetch. It’s a hoot to see both Gwynn and Cody clamping their teeth around the same Chuck It ball.
Gwynn seems to view Quacky the Cat as a potential friend rather than a snack. If Quacky runs, she’s happy to chase her but if Quacky is sitting quietly, Gwynn just sniffs her. With a few reminders, Gwynn should be able to live with a dog savvy cat.
We are working on housebreaking. Gwynn does her business outside but hasn’t yet figured out how to tell Foster Mom she needs a potty break. Foster Mom has been taking her out every hour or two and praising her when she does her business.
Offered a treat, Gwynn goes into her crate without a fuss. She has never soiled her crate at night or on the one occasion she was crated for seven hours during the day.
Gwynn remains extremely curious about her environment. We are working on counter surfing, chewing on inappropriate items and her new accomplishment: climbing on the kitchen table.
In addition to Foster Mom’s resident dogs, Gwynn has had play dates with three other dogs of varying temperaments and did well with all of them. She understands the difference between a wrestling/racing buddy and the more aloof dog who needs her space respected.
Gwynn will be neutered next week and after a few days for recovery will be ready to go to her forever home.

Gwynn was born in a breeding facility in Missouri. In early November she found herself at an auction, one of eight puppies rescued by RAGOM volunteers. A couple of long car rides later, Gwynn arrived at her foster home.
Gwynn is a lovely purebred Golden Retriever. She is a gentle dog who loves to cuddle. She likes to nap with her head on Foster Mom’s shoulder. At six months old, Gwynn is 49.7 pounds and still has a lot of growing to do.
Gwynn’s veterinarian said she is healthy except for two minor issues: hook worms and a hot spot on her right rear leg. She is begun treatment to eliminate these problems. Gwynn is up-to-date on vaccinations and is on Heartgard and Frontline. She will be spayed on November 29.
Gwynn sees living in a house as a big adventure. She is profoundly curious. Open a drawer and her nose is there. Set something down and it may vanish. She has a special affection for the bathroom rug and keeps bringing it into the living room. Gwynn also loves tossing bones and balls into the air.
She does not resource guard food, toys or “found” objects. It is easy to reclaim the “found” objects. She sometimes makes a game of stealing things so Foster Mom will take them back.
Gwynn is crated overnight and when Foster Mom isn’t home. She sleeps through the night. We are working on housebreaking and teaching her some basic commands.
Gwynn loves other dogs. Resident dog Cody is teaching her how much fun it is to race around the yard. She isn’t quite ready to wrestle but enjoys playing tug. Gwynn and Quacky the Cat are trying to figure each other out.
Gwynn really needs people. She would do well in a family that includes their dogs in most activities. She also needs another confident dog as a playmate and mentor. Gwynn is an outstanding puppy and will make her new family very happy.
Thanks to Lynda S for the great pictures!
